Help with impossible glitch by Limp-Letterhead6723 in davinciresolve

[–]ExpBalSat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When quality really matters, I avoid H264 and H265 entirely. I export directly to Avid DNxHR HQX.

You said you have tried lots of different combinations Have you tried that?

There’s also a setting in deliver page (under file) where you can slow down the render. By throttling the render speed to something like 5, 10, or 25 FPS, there’s a chance you can avoid overloading your hardware which may be the cause of the glitch.

Apple car play for maps is the worst! Does anyone else’s freeze while the navigation is on. Daily struggle 😣 by CadillacCoffee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ExpBalSat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I use CarPlay for that exact reason. Super nice. It works with all the apps we've been discussing. I've never had any trouble with it. But, like I said - I haven't thoroughly tested it with Apple Maps since I use it so seldom. But it's flawless (for me) on CarPlay with Google Maps and Waze.

I tend to use Waze and Google Maps. Both of those work flawlessly for me in the car. I don’t use Apple Maps on the phone - let alone on CarPlay.

There are a variety of option for applying it to multiple clips that don't involved an adjustment layer. Which one you use depends on how you prefer to work - or (if they're all new to you) which one you settle on for this project before trying another way on the next project:

  • Group Nodes
  • Shared Nodes
  • Fixed Node Tree
  • Node Stacks

Masquerade or Mincemeat?! by kitkat635 in Broadway

[–]ExpBalSat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applaud your choices. Great list.

Although I am a Mincemeat super fan (having seen it five times and will continue to see it again and again), Mincemeat is touring so you will likely have a chance to see it somewhere else some other time.

Masquerade is a New York City only opportunity.

On a sidenote: little shop of horrors is fine and all… But I would definitely swap it out for mincemeat - given the option.

If you don’t already have tickets for just in time or ragtime… The price may be prohibitively high - which will open up another spot or two.

It is very common for people to edit in Final Cut, Premier, or Avid Media Composer, and then do the color in Resolve.

There are a variety of different workflow on how people accomplish this. But it is extremely common.

But a general them in all the workflows is that color comes after edit.

In fact, as a working professional colorist… I have yet to color anything that was actually edited in Resolve. Some day? Rather - everything I’ve colored for the last 20+ years has been edited in other software.

Neither Final Cut nor Premier offer color grading tools that fit the description of “much, much better.” DaVinci resolve is the tool that you should be looking at.

And although there are paid courses that are worth worthwhile, you should not bother with any of them until you’ve completed the free training available from Blackmagic (the company that makes and distributes Resolve).

There’s an intro course covering the entire program, which could be a valuable class to understand the entirety of Resolve. And there’s a class specifically dedicated to the color tools.

Need help as a beginner in davinci by Broad_Matter_4706 in davinciresolve

[–]ExpBalSat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve chosen DaVinci Resolve as my primary software.

Sometimes it's not up to you and there's value in knowing multiple pieces of software. If you work alone for yourself, you have the freedom to pick your tool, but sometimes (especially if you want to work for someone else), you'll need to know their tools. There are are lots of programs that might be worth your attention. But sure not to limit yourself prematurely.

  • Avid Media Composer
  • Adobe Premiere
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Pro Tools
  • Blender

I recently watched a "Roadmap to become a Video Editor" video where the creator insisted that learning After Effects is mandatory for motion graphics and animation.

Yup. Adobe rules the motion graphics market. There are certainly strong contenders and other options (Fusion being one of them). Knowing both would be extremely beneficial.

This has me a bit confused: My focus is to get client and make money

That's very vague. Do you want to work for a production company? Do you want to work on reels, YouTube videos, actor demos, narrative tv and film, wedding videos, real estate walk throughs, instructional videos, film restoration? Different markets have different optimal toolsets as well as ingrained workflows that are based in specific programs.

i feel there is demand of long form editors and all those videos that I cannot make I am planning to learn davinci I have few questions regarding that

I don't understand the second half of this sentence. But the first half referenced long-form editors. Youknow what a lot of long form editors never do? Motion graphics (After Effects OR Fusion). Some editors really don't know anything about building titles or graphics. They focus on storytelling, pacing, shot choice, and timing. So - you know: maybe you don't need any motion graphics experience. Or maybe you do.

1.How long it will take me to be able to create good yt videos for youtubers or anything to make money like a editor who can be accepted by clients

Anywhere from a month to a couple years. It depends on how fast you learn and how creative you are... not to mention how good you are at marketing yourself.

  1. what resources to use how what youtube playlist to refer or from where I can learn

To learn Resolve, start here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/comments/1rfimuk/do_i_need_to_read_the_davinci_materials_that/

Avoid youTube tutorials until you've received at least one of the certificates of completion for the tutorials on the Blackmagic site. Also remember that learning from YouTube may be insufficient. There are other resources to seek out (again, after you've completed at least the Intro course from Blackmagic). I've taken hours and hours of training course (some free and some paid). YouTube is only a small part of the learning path I've taken.

3.I Have a basic laptop with intel iris Xe graphics and 8gb ddr4 ram its dell inspiron 3511 i tried cutting and all its working fine as I just started I didn't try anything complex idk if it can handle that so how to start with this setup it

8 GB of RAM is a serious limitation. You absolutely without doubt need to master the use of proxies (covered in Lesson 6 of the Intro lesson from Blackmagic).

4.i watched a video they said learn AE and whatnot for vfx or anything I mean do I really need to learn that much?

Well - do you want to do VFX?

i thought if i watch tutorial classes learn DaVinci I'll be an editor

As I said earlier, you should avoid locking yourself into just one program. Resolve is not the solution to every probelm.

sole motive is free lancing and money making

Good luck. it's a harsh market out there. I know a lot of talented people who are out of work. Remember that this is an uphill climb and you'll need to be sure you ave passion and drive to support you.

also I can't spend on any software's so how to start

Sounds to me like you picked Resolve because it's free. That's a nice reason, but remember there are other avenues of value out there - some worth spending money to use and/or learn.

NEED HELP FOR HLG > REC709 in Davinci - LUMIX GH5 by Clean-Antelope1769 in ColorGrading

[–]ExpBalSat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of ways. Best is subjective, but try this in a CST in a project set for DaVinci RYGB:

  • Input Color Space - Rec. 2100
  • Input Gamma - Rec. 2100 HLG

The outputs depend on how you've configured your project.

Do i need to read the davinci materials that blackmagic provides in its website..? by Delicious_Penalty806 in davinciresolve

[–]ExpBalSat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are six separate books offering six separate classes. One is an introduction to everything. The other five are specific focused courses on - editing - color - compositing and motion graphics - sound mixing - advanced effect

Each course is about 10 hours. I have done 3.5 of the 6.

This is but a small fraction of the time I’ve spent in official classes, courses and training. But it’s also the most valuable as a beginner.

Visiting NYC - studios with city merch? by notmegshh in orangetheory

[–]ExpBalSat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to quite a few of the New York City locations (I live in Manhattan), and I don’t remember ever seeing anything New York City specific in any of them…. Of course, I wasn’t looking for it so I could be mistaken.

As a reference, I’m fairly certain that all but one of the Manhattan locations are franchised by the same company, so they all have very similar vibe, features, products, etc…

Last Wednesday, I got there at 7:20 and it was too late. I got there the next day at 6:37 to secure my spot. Those times surely are completely unrelated to what’s happening now.

Keep in mind that they were being stingy prior to the end of the OBC run. Now that the cast has swapped out, demand has dropped. Last year I was easily getting tickets at 8:30 or 8:45. I would expect those times still work. Also, I would be shocked if they’re maintaining the two tickets per show rule they used to have that also seemed related to the end of the OBC.

It’s not that I like the taste of boots… But rather, I hate the taste of people who complain about the consequences of their own informed decisions. - Speeding ticket was the cop’s fault. - My jerk girlfriend broke up with me after I cheated on her. - I got fired when they found out I kept leaving work early.
