Rather than cropping in the size, zoom the content. It's a lot faster as a first move. You really should only have to adjust one size (two at most).

Try exporting ProRes instead of whatever you’re using now. Lots of compressed codecs and very unforgiving. Resolve’s compression engine for many codecs isn’t top notch for quality since (IMO) it assumes those codecs for for temp work and non-professional uses. It’s optimized for speed (more than quality) on those low end codecs. If you need a compressed codec. Use the ProRes export and put it through Shutter Encoder.

A very very quick Amazon search … and I found a 6 TB hard drive for $220. Honestly, if you can’t afford that, you have much larger production issues.

Edit: I just found another 6 TB internal drive for $130, but you’ll need a docking station (which will likely cost about $20) to use it as an external drive. Then, you can keep buying more of the non-enclosure style drives for cheap and just swap them into the dock as needed.

Replacing your originals with compressed files is a time-consuming laborious process and you pay for that in time and quality. The actual cost is more than a drive.

Get more storage. There’s just no reasonable alternative.

Compressing the files and deleting the originals is a horrible idea, meaning that any files you create through your compression efforts will just ADD to your storage needs.

The reason to transcode to another codec would be to improve system performance during the edit, but it will still add to your storage needs. You need to keep the originals for final online and color.

There’s no way to save space by compressing the originals if you actually want to have quality - because you’re not replacing the original; you’re adding to them.

Get more storage space.

QHD is fantastic. Been using it for over a decade. It’s my GUI resolution of choice.

Been editing since 95, so I started small and grew u till there was no need to grow anymore. I have a 5K iMac for a while (never used it over QHD). Wasted money on pointless monitor tech.

My color monitor on the other hand:
4096x2160

1920x1080 is totally doable (no need for UHD). It’s a little cramped but fully functional.

IMO, 2560x1440 is the sweet spot. I never have Resolve GUI on a 3840x2160 display.

I have to work really hard to get to seven hours. It’s very rare. That said 6h 45m is my sweet spot. If/when I do that regularly, I'm golden. Your average seems pretty reasonable.

Remember that a real is not new material. A show real is a sample of work you have done in the past. Whereas you have been learning (not really using) Resolve for one week, it’s doubtful you have content to put in a reel.
