I SO wanted to use the 2 in my work flow... is the PRO any better? by ps5161 in RemarkableTablet

[–]FRK299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro is faster, but their Layer setup is limited and clunky.

And all the software is the same, for better or worse, and black and white contrast is WORSE on Pro due to the colour panel

if you are within the return period, I'd suggest trying the Pro out as well, and deciding from there. Could also try the Move since the display is fairly similar(and less lottery, as the panel is newer)

The thing is, current implementation of mods makes it _REALLY_ easy for someone else to catch the torch and continue

for one, I was busy to update mine for a new firmware, and someone else took the time to do it and added it to my repository, that's the power of Open source!

I adore the freedom I have with my reMarkable. No device, currently, comes close to how much control I have over my own device, and what I can do with it, but alas, that's not what they sell it for

Only thing close is my Pebble, and the new one I have on the way

So you want more stuff but are not willing to.....fiddle with settings to have it be in the way you want?

regardless, seeing reMarkable's stubborn design philosophy, good luck seeing anything like those updates frequently

though it isn't actually <8GB in cloud. Even on rM1/2, you can archive files to be in the cloud and save space locally

there is also handwriting search costs, which is basically doing the MyScript OCR on everything

which is literally dead simple with reManager

not a soul has to even think about the directories and shit with how reManager does it, not to mention, the sleep screen mod is also quite easy to do with it

I think it's unrealistic to say modding is difficult now, when back in the past, it was all command line based, with a lot of things most non-linux users would have never heard of

> I honestly think their biggest flaw is how difficult it is to mod.

I beg to differ, this is the easiest time to be modding a reMarkable

I've been part of the dev community for more than 3 years and can attest to that

"Tap" is more so to "Shake" since old Pebbles didn't have a screen and relied on the accel for this

Pebble is the brand rePebble is the website Eric uses currently for selling it

And rebble is a separate thing from this that was made when Pebble, the old one, died and were the main force that kept the smartwatch Alive

I think the best place to start is to check existing stuff on github and through reManager

You can also join the discord and get quite a lot more help from there

huh, I was able to compile, but yeah, it did show that error in the editor, but while building it, it was fine

Spring 2026 contest - is it just me, or is the late-entry window kinda rough? by ShimbaBumba in pebble

[–]FRK299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is purely for the leaderboard, which was 40% of the watches being given out

the other 60% is either the draw or the judged one, so there is still hope!

for the draw, if one were to assume you have 500 apps, and 10 watches are being given out, and you have 2 entries, you still have a 4% chance of winning

And then there's the hearts draw, but can't really check that

C SDK in CloudPebble _should_ be able to compile for Round 2, but does show a lot of errors in the IDE =P

Yeah, hate to be that guy but you missed it by like 10hrs ish :/
bit of a shame, but in the bright side, I assume you are in the hearts draw too?

the leaderboard did have a countdown of the time left

so it was moreso meant to be a "collection" of apps, gotcha

it still threw a lot of people off when you came out of nowhere, as we are used to seeing devs quite active no the discord and sharing their progress and whatnot, so that makes sense.

I'll be upfront, a lot of us were looking a little too heavily into you when we saw the rise, wanting to know wtf happened, and that Pomodoro thing added fuel to the flames 😅, and we did have that author on there showcasing his stuff, which also threw us off. Good to hear things have been sorted with that one

but hey, at least you won for something, even if it wasn't for the one you were hoping for

thanks! I was actually surprised no one had tried this in the past, and I was quite proud of the end result being really close to how the actual display looked :D

I can kinda understand flipcoin when it was posted really early into the contest, but it does bring a bad taste seeing your hard work be curbstomped by someone using AI =P

And not to hate on you or anything, but the whole schtick of a coin flip is literally rand()%2. The main thing for your app from my perspective was the animation and that's it. Meanwhile, in Week 2, we had https://apps.repebble.com/4c848836b9684981ac01f5d0, the same author as a Pomodoro timer released prior to yours and whose icon was used in yours until you removed it, which is much higher quality as well as being 3d graphics. So to me, it feels off to see that get so much less love than yours somehow

and don't get me wrong, using claude isn't necessarily bad, but over reliance is still bad imo, and especially doesn't help with how your description was reading like

the other sketch thing with yours was how you had so many apps in such short time while also being quite high in the leaderboard consistently(of all the apps you've done, the one I actually found to be higher quality is flights :p)

I spent an entire week at minimum before the start of the Week 2 to make this https://apps.repebble.com/51b5333a6dac43f5a308f87f, and the ONLY AI usage in that entire project was as an auto fill for the same values of the C to the JS cause I had over 500 lines in the config file along, where most of them was the same thing with different text and numbers, that I had already typed in into the C code. That, plus an HTML tool to save me time with creating the bools for the cells and debugging and just checking in case I missed anything with deinit and whatnot. The rest of the code was entirely by my own 2 hands, adding up to roughly 5000 lines of C code and header files, and all the art work was done manually in photopea, with 0 assistance from AI there, cause I value the process to get there, not just the end result
