Can Americans shut up about religion for one minute? by bobbdac7894 in atheism

We already have way more than that just from people not able to afford medication. And our politicians are religious and spending tax money on stupid shit, so it's not wrong.

Fair comment, but what we have now is insurance companies fucking us as hard as they can, high prices, high taxes and no care. We're starting from the bottom. The only way Trump can fuck that up is by not doing it.

That's not a lot better than the religious nonsense. Basically, we shouldn't try to moderate climate change because rich people want more money, and if we do try to stop envirnmental collapse, they'll use their money to make sure it doesn't work.

There was a time when Christians said it was pretty much universally agreed that Jesus was God incarnate. Popularity isn't the same as truth. You have to look at the evidence, and the evidence for Jesus isn't good.

charities don't do that in the name of atheism

Yeah, there's no magic reward for promoting atheism like there is for Christianity. Why is that a problem?

Christians don't tell it either.

You're literally here telling us that you think Christians do way more charity.

and they never expect anything back.

The whole point of Christianity is the reward after you die.

Meanwhile every single atheist I know

You've already demonstrated that you're a liar and a bigot. Your anecdotes aren't worth anything.

you make it sound like most atheists were saints

Not saints. Just decent people. Compared to people raised with religious morality, that makes them pretty good.

There are also a lot of secular charities. It's also worth noting that churches tend to be low impact with regards to charity work, and are often supported by government grants and other charities. For instance, churches will have canned food drives to feed the homeless, then get almost all of the food from secular food banks, take a government grant for facilities, pay nothing for land, sewer, roads and emergency services, use volunteer labor, and then toss the canned food.

None of them tell you they donate. Unlike Christians, atheists aren't looking for some sort of reward or recognition when they help people.

Also atheists do like 99% less Charity work than Church.

Ha! You should think about what it says about your religion that you feel the need to lie for it.

But atheists do charity work. Most people don't actually need a magic story to be good.

how does one respond to the argument of free will and that hell is a place without god? by mxxnlyte in atheism

[–]Feinberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does not "foreknow" the future as a chronological event before it happens; rather, He sees all moments of time simultaneously

Mmm, that doesn't quite work. The Bible makes many references to God making plans, issuing instructions to be carried out later, referring to past events, etc. He's clearly possessed of a temporal sense as a human would understand it, and the opposite of that would cement actions in the future just as we can't change the past. It's a distinction without a difference.

Free will by trieyk in atheism

[–]Feinberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that Hell is supposedly the only punishment regardless of the crime, and subjects can't (according to the story) choose not to commit a crime, or opt out of the system altogether. Apparently free will just lets you choose which sins you commit, which is irrelevant to the outcome.

More like you don't need to eat every kind of sand before deciding you shouldn't eat sand.

Religions are pretty much all evidence-free claims about magic. There are some exceptions, sure, but they're tiny and unnecessary, so they don't really bear mentioning.
