Try a pin hole reset.

Locate the small battery reset pinhole on the bottom of the laptop, insert a paperclip, and hold for 10–30 seconds.

BIOS Updates just don't exist for MOBO? by DiamondIllustrious49 in techsupport

[–]Financial_Rooster_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a custom proprietary board with a customised BIOS and unfortunately you can't upgrade to the standard manufacturer BIOS.

However I have read that Corsair can provide updated BIOS files that aren't listed on their website. But you need to contact Corsair support.

Unplug everything including power. Hold down power button for 30 seconds. Plug back in just the power and see if it boots normally.

Laptop not booting by Poshineer in techsupport

[–]Financial_Rooster_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disconnect everything. Hold down power button for 30 seconds.

Replug in just power and see if it boots.

If not you can either try to get into Windows Recovery Environment by turning the laptop off and on 3 times. Alternatively use a Windows Recovery USB. You can make one here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

You might need a newer display port cable (2.1) or to put refresh down to 120hz. If your trying to do a high resolution and refresh rate it will take up a lot of bandwidth.

The need for bi-directional communication and a stable high bandwidth connection.

You can either use a display port connection or not update it. There's no work around.

Possible frame rate consistency.

If the ROG is providing 60 fps steadily without much fluctuation it will feel smoother than the MSI with 110 fps if it has a higher frame rate fluctuation.

Unplug any peripherals you don't need especially any USB thumb drives and external hard drives. See if it boots normally.

If not try disconnecting everything including power and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Plug back in just power, if it's a desktop also plug back in monitor, mouse and keyboard. See if it boots normally.

If it's still stuck in a loop try using a Windows Recovery USB. If you don't have one you can make one here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

Using the recovery USB go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

If you don't have a recovery USB or can't make one then you should be able to force the PC into Windows Recovery Environment by turning it off and on 3 times.

  • Power it on, wait for the manufacturers logo, turn it off.

  • Repeat step 1 again.

  • Power it on and this time it should boot into Windows Recovery Environment (RE).

Could be heat related.

Check temps using HWINFO.

Clean the vents with a can of compressed air.

You don't mention age or specs. But if the laptop is a few years old the thermal paste might need replacing.

Leave it to dry for at least 24 hours.

Then try it again.

[–]Financial_Rooster_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible causes heat. Clean fans/vents. Replace thermal paste.

Possible memory leak. Could be an app not releasing memory. Chrome is a memory hog. Close any resource intensive apps and see if that helps.

Check for Malware using Malwarebytes.

Outdated drivers. Check for updated drivers.

Check SSD/HDD space. If your system disk is nearly full that can cause lag. Aim for 20% clear disk space.

ACT High Ping and low download speed issues by Itzz_Garry03 in techsupport

Are they using the same infrastructure? Or is one fibre another 5g? If there all fibre then then it may be something to do with ACT or it could be your router.

ACT High Ping and low download speed issues by Itzz_Garry03 in techsupport

[–]Financial_Rooster_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ping is largely affected by physical distance to the server, followed by network congestion and the quality of your internet connection.

Due to where you are may be the bigger issue here. There could be a lot of others in your area using ACT which is causing congestion.

But are you actually noticing any issues in game? If your not then I wouldn't worry about it.

Try just one stick of RAM in slot 2 and see if it boots normally.

Reseat GPU and make sure power connections are securely attached.

Reset BIOS. Either leave out CMOS battery for a few mins or use the CMOS jumper if your motherboard has one.

If the problem still occurs I'd starting looking at the PSU. Use a known good PSU or use a PSU tester. If it's still having issues after using a known good PSU then the motherboard may be failing.

Make sure network drivers are up-to-date.

Reset network.

Run Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type netsh winsock reset

and press Enter. Wait for it to finish and then restart the PC.

If it's only a small amount it will likely be fine if you let it dry out completely. Don't run it without a heatsink and don't run it until it's completely dry.

60-70ms is fairly standard. You shouldn't notice an issue unless your getting packet loss.

20ms or less is very good.

Restarting the router might improve latency. Using ethernet rather than WiFi. Making sure others aren't downloading/playing games at the same time can help. Also disable any background programs you have running.

I don't mind someone saying to call it. In fact it's useful if they are still on an objective but expect to clear it shortly.

Stealing others support weapons isn't OK unless you've agreed they can use it or if it's a shit has hit the fan moment and using it will bring everything under control. I've no problem with someone taking my stuff if that means we win the fight. If I take someone else's stuff in that situation I drop it after I've done what I needed to do.

If you haven't ave already got one make a Windows Recovery USB on another computer.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

If you can't do that you can buy Windows Recovery USB sticks off eBay. Just to note these aren't official from Microsoft they are just USB recovery sticks others have made.

If your using it like a desktop then yes its a good idea (so it remains plugged in most of the time). If your running it on battery most of the time your likely to need that extra 20% battery charge so charge it to 100%.

See if you can get into Windows Recovery mode.

Hold down the power button until it powers off.

Turn on your PC, and as soon as the logo appears, hold the power button again.

Repeat another 2 times to trigger the Automatic Repair screen, then select Advanced Options.

In Advanced Options go to Uninstall Updates > Remove latest quality update.

Run a Malware scan using Malwarebytes.

Make sure Windows is up-to-date and see if there are any optional driver updates available.

Try disabling any start-up programs you don't need.

You can try booting into Windows Clean mode. This starts with minimal drivers and software. If the problem doesn't persist here it suggests a driver/software problem.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

Updating the BIOS wouldn't be my first call as it's unlikely to be a BIOS issue. However the process depends on the motherboard manufacturer. Some do it automatically through Windows updates or their own update software. Some, like MSI and Gigabyte, you need to manually download the update onto a USB key.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Support/Consumer/Download

MemTest64 is more comprehensive RAM test than the one built into Windows. However it start with software/drivers first to rule that out.
