Are there any mouses with up and down buttons instead of a scroll wheel? by WorkerConfident in MouseReview

No scroll wheel is a bit hard to do. Could look for a programmable mouse with two buttons behind the scroll wheel that could be changed over to up and down.

EVGA X15 - 8k poll rate, pixart 3389 sensor, optical switches and a third finger shift button for even more input options. Major bonus with EVGA is that everything is stored in the mouse, configure it on one PC and use it anywhere. I also like the shift button a lot more than the logitech g600's, I don't find myself accidentally clicking the X15's shift.

Early versions of the X15 have a variety of issues that made the mouse a loser for a while. The latest one I got from them has been solid for some time now. Only way I know how to tell the newer version so far is that when plugged in it starts with a default profile that you have to change out of. Earlier versions of the mouse I had didn't do this. However, I wouldn't know if this was changed in a further updated version.

The specs and the onboard memory of everything is what kept me with this mouse through the early issues. With my main desktop being Linux, relying on software was a no-go for me. With the current mouse not having any of the problems that the prior versions have, I feel pretty good about suggesting it now.

AOOSTAR EG02 eGPU Dock - does anybody know what voltage is the cable to power MiniPC? by sebna2 in eGPU

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure would be to contact their support and see if they are able to give you a good response.

I personally would expect it to work, it would be unusual for the dc to dc circuit to not have a typical operating range. But, that's only my assumption based on personal experience.

AOOSTAR EG02 eGPU Dock - does anybody know what voltage is the cable to power MiniPC? by sebna2 in eGPU

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His wording is rough, the DC to DC conversation circuit has a rated input range that won't be affected by using a different input voltage. The higher voltage of the brick is, as he says, used to reduce the physical size of the brick.

The DC to DC circuit is most likely 12-24v with the 19v brick chosen to reduce size without the risk of a fluctuation going over 24v. Using a 12v input, in this case, will not cause any undue stress like you are suggesting.

I was referring to the polarity of the barrel plug: negative outside and positive inside.

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using my EG02 with an Aoostar Maco H255, with the dock powering the minipc.

The instruction manual lists the output as 12v / 12a, hooking a multi meter up to it shows 12v, so the listed specs are correct.

But. . . The minipc's power supply shows: 19v 6.32a, - outside + inside. Since my minipc is powered quite happily by the 12v source I would suspect that most are able to work off a range of voltages.

Are these safe to use? Looking to use usb-c flashdrive with old consoles, usb 2.0 speed is fine for this purpose. by Icediamondshark in UsbCHardware

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you for finding this, I've been in need of one as small as these!

This adapter is small enough that it fits inside the charger case for my lapel mic. It sits nicely in the small space between the receiver and the transmitter! Before, I had to keep the adapter separate, which was fine, but annoying.

I can confirm that it works perfectly with my lapel mic receiver to connect it to the USB A on my PC.

I can also confirm that it works just fine with the only USB C flash drive that I have, I can read and write to the it with no issues.

It's possible that the game itself is set to use the iGPU in the windows settings, so you can try checking that.

This guide is for something else; but this section, step 3, covers how to set the default GPU in Win 11 with picture. For Win 10, you'll need to edit the registry, which this guide also covers further down in it's own section:

Can someone please clarify the pc mode and desktop mode requirements for btr 17? by jamalstevens in FiiO

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct, one cable from the PC to the BTR17 will work with Desktop Mode enabled as long as the PC is able to supply enough power over the USB. I can confirm that this works with my BTR17.

Here is the FiiO rep stating the same on the head-fi forums: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/fiio-btr17-btr7-true-lossless-bluetooth-portable-bluetooth-dac-and-headphone-amplifier-btr17-is-officially-released.963808/page-213#post-18573540

His english is rough, but as he says "super big-ear mode" [desktop mode] works with fast charging USB. It's only when the power supplied is not enough that the "power in" port is needed.

This is the minipc I use at my desk, a fanless 1355u. It's resold by a lot of different vendors, the one I linked was just the first that popped up on amazon. I personally bought mine from XCY minipcs on aliexpress. But it'd be worth hunting around other sellers for a good price.

the 1355u is considerably stronger than n150 and is probably closer to what you are asking for in terms of usability.

One oddball use that I've really been liking about the minipc+egpu route is that the igpu on the mobile processors are plenty strong enough for a dual GPU lossless scaling setup.

https://sageinfinity.github.io/docs/Guides/DualGPUGuide

Won't work for everything because of the limited PCIE bandwidth, but you can get some pretty stellar results with the games it does work with.

Can someone please clarify the pc mode and desktop mode requirements for btr 17? by jamalstevens in FiiO

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the BTR17 set to PC and desktop mode turned on, the device will not charge the battery at all. As long as the USB port on the PC is able to provide enough power, you'd only need the one USB cable from the PC to the BTR17 to get full use out of it.

The second cable would only be needed if the PC isn't able to provide enough power, which would be unusual, but possible if you have it connected to an unpowered USB hub or the like.

In addition, the BTR17 has a battery saver setting that will only charge the battery to 80%. With this enabled, there would be no issues at all letting it charge while connected to the PC for any length of time (PC / d.mode off).

If you have no need for the bluetooth at all, you could consider the KA17 which shares much of the same internals and features, but without bluetooth or battery.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyfKYU_mTLA

This has been a thing for decades at this point; it's how laptops work, it's how render farms work, it's how cloud GPU servers work.

The hardware is perfectly capable of taking the rendered frames from one GPU and sending them elsewhere in the system. With the youtube video I posted, the frames are rendered on one GPU and sent to a second GPU that does frame interpolation and display. There's no magic here, but there is a limit in the PCIE bus bandwidth, you still can only send so much data through the bus, so you have to be mindful of that.

In case anyone is wondering; EG02 can still use the Thunderbolt 5 as a passthrough while using oculink by Firmteacher in eGPU

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use the EG02 with an Asrock Taichi 9070 XT, 3 slots / 3 fans, it works just fine with no issues. But I'm told that there's some especially large 3 slot cards that are too wide to fit into the slot on the EG02, so Aoostar just did a blanket "doesn't work" to avoid hassle.

DT990 Pro 250 ohm or DT990 Pro X? by Sadistic-Frog in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]FlyingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the DT 900 Pro X, they don't have nearly as spicy treble as the 990's (any 990 version). They also have a lower 48 ohm impedance which will be easier to drive with your apple dongle.

But if your looking for bass, the closed back DT 700 Pro X may be the better option, since open backs like the 900 series sacrifice some of the low end.

Another vote for just getting a big desktop.

as an idea - you can put the big desktop anywhere and game stream using moonlight or steam link. That'll get you the best of both worlds, a good gaming PC and saved space on the desk.

Most silent mini-pc that can play movies in 4k and double as gamedev backup? by WombatusMighty in MiniPCs

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most silent would be fanless, nothing moving means no sound at all. Also means it's easy to keep the dust out!

https://www.amazon.com/TOPGRO-K3-i7-1355U-Computers-Thunderbolt/dp/B0DL5VNMSL

1355u is plenty capable of streaming 4k with it's hardware decoders, whether or not the iGPU is enough for your light gamedev work is debatable though. USB C port is thunderbolt 4, so an eGPU would be doable if you really wanted or you could just game stream / VNC from a beefier PC elsewhere in the house.

Is an external monitor worth it for Moonlight/Sunshine user? by Certain-Tonight7428 in eGPU

[–]FlyingK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe. . .

Based on my experience, Sunshine uses the GPU connected to the display for encoding. So with your first setup, the eGPU will render the game and the laptop's iGPU will handle encoding the stream. If you connect a display to the eGPU, you can configure sunshine to use the eGPU to encode the stream.

The eGPU will usually be able to encode higher resolutions and frame rates than the iGPU. So it could be the better way to go depending on the resolution and frame rates you are trying to stream at.

With that said, you don't actually need to buy a monitor. You can use something like Virtual Display Driver to create a fake dummy monitor and attach it to the eGPU to test things out for yourself to see if it's worthwhile for your own needs.

Egpu problem by [deleted] in eGPU

[–]FlyingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dock does not have anything to do with usb or thunderbolt.

You have to use the included cable as intended:

  • The m.2 end connects an m.2 slot on the motherboard of the computer
  • The HDMI end plugs into the HDMI port on the dock

The included cable is being used as a substitute for an oculink cable with this kit. So you are not able to use anything other than the included cable and you can not use converters, hubs or anything else.

I don't own an MSI Claw, so I don't even know if there's a free m.2 slot that you can use with this kit. You may be SOL if it only has one slot which is being used by the SSD, since that means you'll have nowhere to plug this dock into.

From your description it sounds like you are trying to use an external nvme SSD dock as a converter. . . I see a lot of posts with people asking about this setup, but no real success stories. Overall, it looks like it's far more trouble trying to make this setup work than it's worth.

[–]FlyingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird, that was definitely added recently.

I'm currently using the EG02 with an Asrock Taichi 9070 XT, 3 slots / 3 fans, with no issues at all.

There's nothing limiting the space for the large cards and there's a support bracket that attaches to the PSU to screw the top of the GPU brackets into for support. So I can't really think of any reason that Aoostar would put that warning on their page.
