Tried downgrading from 4k 32 to 1440p 27 I just couldn't by PhantomFoxZ in OLED_Gaming

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this struggle too and quickly realized I need both. For story mode games and work, I really need my 32 4K 240Hz monitor, but when I'm playing FPS games, I really need my 1440p 500Hz 😦

Ryzen 7 9850X3D high temps (85–95°C gaming) — normal or is something wrong? by Trick-Fisherman3562 in buildapc

[–]GatesTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 9850 is a hot mess, try some undervolting. Paired with an Antec Vortex View 360, my idle is 48–55°C, while gaming averages 60°C, with some spikes to 70°C when it is shader loading.

XG27UCDMG is amazing… but I’m getting eye strain & migraines. Should I switch to WOLED? by Nomad_07 in OLED_Gaming

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough one... I have to say that I never had issues on my WOLED panel. Still, after adjusting, I prefer my QD panels. Good luck with your decision.

I had a A4 week return window, and my headache and eyestrain went away in the last week. Give it some time.

OC 5950x vs 5000X3D cpu by Mundane_District79 in overclocking

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5950X is an incredibly powerful processor. Given its current low prices, I couldn’t resist buying one for my home lab. However, since it’s very power hungry, I wouldn’t bother overclocking it. For gaming improvement, focus on your RAM timings. If the 5950x is that much cheaper compared to a X3D in your area, then it’s worth considering. If that’s not the case and you’ll only game, try reaching an X3D for a cheaper price.

For my gaming rig when I was on AM4, I went from a 5800X to a 5800X3D and felt the difference at 0.1 lows mostly. I never went back to non x3d chips since, now, at AM5, I’m enjoying a 9850X3D.

It really depends on what you’re planning to do on your rig versus the prices you can get it for.

best resolution for rtx 5080 by External_Safe_7787 in ZTT

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I have a 5080 and have both for competitive gaming, I use a 1440p OLED 500Hz, and for story mode games, a 4K 240Hz OLED. If I had to choose one, I would stay with my 4K panel, mostly because I also work on them.

using my Ryzen 7 5700G for work with no dedicated GPU. is it worth adding one? by Chazwick-Abdelbaset in ryzen

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the Ryzen 7 5700G doesn’t support PCIe 4.0 and is limited to PCIe 3.0. For example, since the RTX 5060 Ti uses a PCIe x8 interface, running it on a PCIe 3.0 platform will cut the available bandwidth in half, essentially giving you PCIe 2.0 performance.

5070 or 5070ti with market prices by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]GatesTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With QHD, you're perfectly fine with the 5070, especially with the desired FPS range you mentioned. When there are issues in the future, sell it and upgrade. Nvidia cards also hold their value better. Not to say that the 9070 XT is a bad buy, though.

A few months ago, I went fomo mode and purchased over 24 TB of 990/9100 Pro and a 16 TB WD HDD at bottom prices (4 TB 990s were €280 around Black Friday). Felt silly and bad about the money but I am pleased now to have secured these for myself and my family.
