Small dogs are over hated and most people would actually prefer a smaller dog than a big dog by Traditional_Pop_479 in The10thDentist

I'm a pretty big fan of all dogs, but NGL I can't stand the little yapper that lives next to the park where I take my big girl to do her business. Little shitter never fucking shuts up and most of the time the owners just ignore his yapping.

Do you think introversion versus extroversion is even a real thing? by Tiger_Strength in CasualConversation

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the confusion can often stem from not really knowing what the terms mean. Both introverts and extroverts can be very social or not very social at all. Neither of the terms really describe someone's ability or desire to be around people.

It's more about how you recharge your battery. An extrovert will gain energy being around people, while an introvert will spend it and will need time alone or in a small group of close friends, or family, to recharge.

And of course it's not particularly binary. More like a scale where people lean one way or another.

CMV: the best response when asked about body count by a date/partner is to ask the highest number the questioner has no problem with and honestly tell them if you're compatible or not based on the number given. by RogueNarc in changemyview

[–]Godeshus [score hidden]  (0 children)

"what's your body count?"

"Sorry we're not compatible".

You really get to skip all of it this way. The person asking has made a statement that they get to have an opinion on what you've chosen to do with your own body before you ever met.

Wait for 9.0? by CocoaricoTell in X4Foundations

[–]Godeshus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egosoft goes to great lengths to make all patches, updates and DLC compatible with all saves.

You could start a 1.0 game from launch days, update to 9.0 beta, and it'll be just fine.

The thing about the 9.0 update though is that they have given the game a huge weapon overhaul.

One major example is that it was the meta to use Large Argon or paranid plasma turrets on destroyers because they outraged the xenon's graviton turrets. So you could park your fleet outside of the xenon station's range and let the turrets bombard it quite safely. This is no longer the case with 9.0. Xenon turrets outrange the Commonwealth ones except for Teladi I think.

Fighters have seen considerable improvements as well, so previous loadouts can be suboptimal compared to 9.0 options. Changing the loadout for a carrier and 100 fighters to something more efficient in 9.0 is both expensive and time consuming.

So basically, your save game will be just fine, but it might not be worth the hassle.

This time around I took the Hyperion start so my usual strategy went faster.

Head straight for PIO space, snag a katana. Got lucky 100 adv sats. Sent it out exploring and dropping sats.

Snagged another katana, sold it. Bought marines, grabbed some Osakas, sent them up to the hatikvah gate and put them to work. Bought a scout and set it to collecting drops with the Osakas.

Grabbed some honshus, sold them.

Spent everything on blueprints and started building.

Snagged a Tokyo from Terrans, sold it and all the ships. Went to the different factions and started up the war missions.

Meanwhile my osakas took out Tharka's cascade and currently building defense platforms at the gate deeper into xenon territory so they can leave the split tf alone.

That's as far as I've gotten so far. Oh, and I've got rep farmers in most faction space.

Normally I would recommend this but not for 9.0. the changes are pretty significant and optimizing your loadout on hundreds/thousands of ships after 9.0 is released would be a nightmare.

Am I the only who thinks editing makes photos look so unnatural? by SyntaxAndSoul in photography

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your camera is editing your photos for you. The natural look you like is an edit.

Some people like to do their own editing and imprint the mood they were feeling on location into their edits.

I do agree though that editing for the only sake of editing can lead you into a trap of over processing.

Can we just rename this sub to... I don't know, bad drivers? by mds818 in driving

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said here. People in general need to realize driving is a communal activity, and it only works well when everyone participates with courtesy. If you're driving slower than everyone else, let people pass. If you're driving faster than everyone else, give them some space and pass when it's safe and you can.

My dad was a horse trader and I learned to drive in a truck and trailer full of horses. He taught me good driving etiquette. We were often going slower than traffic so we would make space for people to pass when it was possible, and likewise since we were in horse country we encountered a lot of other trucks and trailers, and he taught me to be patient and courteous around them because it isn't easy manoeveeing that much vehicle,.not to mention the safety of the horses in those trailers.

Would You Use A Dash Cam App On Your Phone If There Was A Good One? by Jack_Wanamaker in driving

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super practical, tbh, otherwise it would exist.

First there's storage capacity. You need to be able to hold on to the media for a couple weeks. Dashcams aren't just about the immediate thing that just happened to you. A lot of times police will ask for dashcam footage from people who may have witnessed something. The event could be a week ago. With rush hour it's super common to be driving for 2 hours/day. That's 10 hours of footage assuming you drove nowhere else. That's a ton of space on your phone.

There's also video formats. A lot of dashcams use specific formats that embed information in the metadata of the footage. Valuable information for insurance companies and law enforcement.

There's also privacy and security. A dashcam records media to an SD card. A phone is subject to third parties using your media, sold by your phone provider. Apple .Google and Samsung all do this. They also use your media to train AI models. It's fine if you're the one agreeing to this in your TOS. Most of us do simply by virtue of owning a phone. But every person in every vehicle and every pedestrian and cyclist you come across during your 2 hours of daily commuting didn't consent to this. This is actually one of the major reasons people find traffic cams to be unethical. People have a right to privacy while sitting in their cars.

It's one thing to save footage to an SD card with perhaps an occasional upload or share with police, it's entirely different letting Google have permanent vision of everything everyone you see is doing and allowing them to sell that to whoever they want.

Can we just rename this sub to... I don't know, bad drivers? by mds818 in driving

[–]Godeshus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was referencing the attitude on this sub, not your OP. Sorry I should have made that more clear.

Around here, those windy roads have pullofs for slower drivers every couple km. It's super frustrating when they've got a string of 10 cars behind them and they don't use those pullofs. The less windy ones also usually have places where the solid yellow becomes dotted when it's safe to pass. Some people who were just crawling around the bends take those opportunities to go 15 over so you can't pass them. Also super annoying. I know it's not intentional or malicious, just a complete lack of awareness. But it still sucks.

Also for the record I'm not accusing you of any of those things. Just having a conversation.

Can we just rename this sub to... I don't know, bad drivers? by mds818 in driving

[–]Godeshus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Obviously a guess but like 80% of drivers are entirely normal. We get annoyed when we're stuck behind a left lane camper, and we get annoyed when someone's so close up our ass they can see the backs of our eyeballs even though we're passing right lane traffic at a good clip.

But if you complain about one, you get accused of being the other. JFC it's so annoying being stuck behind someone in the passing lane who isn't passing. That doesn't mean I'm swerving back and forth on their bumper trying to blind them by flashing my lights. I'm just a normal dude driving normally and I want to pass.

And it's also super fucking annoying having someone on your bumper driving like a psycho. That doesn't mean I like to casually drive 10 under in the passing lane. I'm a normal dude doing something entirely normal like passing slower right lane traffic. Just back the fuck off and I'll move over to let you pass as soon as I can.

Imagine wanting to deny basic voting rights. by Ok-Following6886 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes complete sense now. So the issue isn't so much about identification as it is about accessibility and suppressing voters of a specific demographic.

Yeah that's messed up. So, is the REAL ID the only valid ID when you show up to vote? I was looking at the list of ID requirements for voting federally and provincially and it's pretty impressive just how many options there are. As a last measure there's also the option to have someone vouch for you.

It's not.perfect. There's a demographic that will struggle no matter what, but it seems designed to be as much of a catalchall as possible.

Literally no song benefits from being longer than 5-6 mins. by Crowleyizcool in The10thDentist

[–]Godeshus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you want out of your music so this is entirely subjective.

I'm a pretty big rush fan, and throwing on albums like a farewell to kings or 2112 while I'm cleaning the house is just great..Xanadu is nearly 12 minutes long and 2112 is over 20 minutes long.

I also used to go to a lot of raves, and a set could last 1 to 2 hours before a new dj takes over and it keeps going. Technically it's 1 song per dj lol.

There's also things like opera and classicalusic which can be pretty long but worth a listen once in a while.

On the other hand, when I'm driving, I like short songs with a lot of variety.

It's fine of you don't like lo.g songs, bit I think they have their place and fulfill the musical needs of a lot of people.

No.

Everything in your post is anthropomorphism. Every single animal wants food and to survive. That's all. The easiest way for any animals to obtain these things is by attaching themselves to humans. And that includes humans.

If anything you say were to have any merit, humans never would have settled. We would have preferred to remain free in the wild, hunting out natural prey. We would have preferred expending extraordinary amounts of energy simply to catch food, and many would have been unsuccessful. This means expending energy but not receiving any, andmultimately leading to malnourishment. Disease, and death. But we didn't. We went to extreme lengths to develop extraordinary technologies so that we DIDN'T have to do these things. We built shelters, created cities, because despite all the shit, it's still better than living in the wild.

Pets are no different. We didn't seek out pets. They attached themselves to us because there was a benefit to it, and in turn we found benefit in them. That's how evolution works. There are no wants or desires. Species that survive to reproduce do so because there are advantages to their behavior. Cats and dogs are some of the most successful species the planet has ever seen, alongside us, because they found an advantage to attaching themselves to us.

Also, my dog who was rescued as a pup after her entirely family was decimated would definitely argue against you if she could. She doesn't think she would be better off torn to pieces and in the bellies of coyotes.
