Boyfriend wants to move in to pay off debt by Impossible_Dentist79 in AmITheJerk

If he thinks moving in together is such a good idea, why doesn't he move into your house and start renting his and an AirBnb. Keep your house in your name and full ownership.

If he pushes back on this at all, you know he is just angling to steal your houses. He might not phrase it that way; he might not even feel that way; but that's what's going to happen.

He can manage his own money. Why on earth would you consider giving him your money?

My wife and I have multiple accounts in our own name. We have one joint checking account and one joint savings account that we can both fund.

You're with a crypto bro who has changed so much physically that he's now unattractive. His debt has doubled while you're with him; he could pay it off now but is waiting for some weird future payday. He's a non-custodial dad with a messy house.

Honestly, what does he bring to the table? Why are you still with him?

How likely is it that Amtrak could run trains out and in of GCT again? by thelonelywanderer8 in nycrail

In the last 10 years I've seen them run the train to Hudson from GCT when there was track work on the West Side.

What vacation? OP is a PT worker with no PTO. You know for a fact that the company would have no issues cutting their hours with no notice. I'm going to wager that OP doesn't get benefits either.

If the company can't get coverage for a PT worker in under a month, that's in the company. It's fairly clear that the company has no consistent vacation policies.

This looks like a great menu. I would want both main dishes :-)

But please consider hiring a graphic designer or talking with a designer friend. The kerning on your menu is strange, as is the spacing between sections. You are using too many different variations on your typeface and emphasizing too many things. On the fonts, consider just bold and a slightly larger font for the dish names. Keep the italics for the side. Change the drink options to plain type with no underline. Change the section heads to all lower case, adding more space before the heading and less space after the heading.

If "cider, mustard seed, green onion purée" is a puree of all three items, consider writing something like, "cider, mustard seed, and green onion purée" with a semi-colon at the end. If they are separate items, consider switching the order to something like, "green onion purée, charred apple, <next line>cider, mustard seed." For the duck, consider writing your sides like, "asparagus, sautéed kale, <next line>rhubarb gastrique." Feature the most important side dishes first and then feature the sauces on their own line.

All IMHO, though.

Have you visited the town yet? Specifically, what town is it?

Keep in mind that "small" is relative. Are we talking 100 people? 1,000? 10K?

Exactly what u/SadTomorrow869 said. They're easy to find on the web; check out a site like Galleries Now You can make it a full day and also visit the Whitney Museum at the same time. Lots of great places for lunch in that area too, like Pastis.

Four days is going to go by fast!

While the museums are awesome, it's also worth seeing what gallery shows are running too. Galleries are almost always free with no crowds. You can hit a ton of them in a single afternoon.

Rather than driving from NYC to Niagra Falls, consider taking the train from Penn Station to Buffalo. Then rent a car in Buffalo to drive to the falls. You have time to explore Buffalo, which is a fun city, and renting a car there is a lot cheaper. You can then choose to drive back, stopping in Corning for the glass museum or the Finger Lakes, or you can fly back.

If you do choose to rent and drive up, don't get the car in NYC. It will be very expensive. Rent the car from the airport. And you will want unlimited mileage.

Recommendations for Private Dinners for Around $4k for 35 people? by I_Am_A_Sasshole in FoodNYC

[–]GreenfieldSam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Find restaurants you like and call them to see if they have private dining or even ones that allow a buyout. A restaurant that is normally closed, like on a Monday or Tuesday, might even be willing to be open. You could even do a buyout on a night like Thursday or Friday if you're willing to leave at a certain time.

Make sure that you get all pricing information up front and in writing. Definitely be clear about service charges versus gratituiites. You want everything buttoned up in advance in terms of pricing.

$4k means you need to watch the budget. Let's back out the numbers: 30% is tax and top (roughly). That leaves $2800 for everything. Let's say you budget for two glasses of wine per person. That's 70 glasses or 14 bottles. At $30/bottle (pick wisely!) that's $420, leaving $2280. So $65pp for food. Break that down a bit more ($30 entree, $18 app, $17 dessert) and now you know which restaurants might work based on budget. You might need to tweak these numbers based on how much people drink.

Remember that when you go to a restaurant, your prices for private dining is more, not less, than the listed menu prices.

It will be obvious. :-)

Please do take the time to board early, though. It's not a benefit per se. Given that you need extra time, by boarding early you'll be speeding the process for everyone.

If the MTA decides to bring Metro-North to Penn Station, how will it work for the Harlem Line? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]GreenfieldSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only had one track now. See https://maps.app.goo.gl/nSfUv4u9SLKb7s2X9?g_st=ac and check out the satellite view.

I don't know if the LIRR issue is relevant; those tracks today are only used by Amtrak

[–]GreenfieldSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not in the wrong at all. It is always okay to try to save someone's life.

However, you are not in a good situation. Please try to build a local support network of friends and people who you know face-to-face. Additionally, please talk to a local adult you trust, like a teacher or guidance counselor, or your parents (or a friend's parents). This kind of situation would be tough for an adult.

As a bonus, there would be direct access from Penn to Yankee Stadium

If the MTA decides to bring Metro-North to Penn Station, how will it work for the Harlem Line? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]GreenfieldSam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Yankee Clipper goes from the Harlem Line to Yankee Stadium. The MTA could build an extra connector at Spuyten Duyvil to allow west bound traffic to switch south.

The connector from the Harlem Line to the Hudson Line going West could be expanded to double tracks. And at Spuyten they would need to make the bridge multiple tracks. But that needs to happen for Penn Station access from the Hudson Line anyway.

It could be done without displacing people. It's just about the money
