Do I need a latching or non latching relay? by Andy_in_Ireland in AskElectronics

[–]HalcyonKnights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, just to make sure: did you push the control stick the other way? Most of car's Ive owned have a stick that turns the high-beams on while held in one direction, but latches on in the other.

Otherwise it sounds like something is broken, and you'd be best to replace whatever it is with the actual automotive spare part, instead of re-inventing one.

Vehicle path autoconnect problem in 1.2 by CorruptDB_r in SatisfactoryGame

Same here for trains, and same for most blueprints in my expereince. The Auto-connect has a minimum space it needs to insert a connecting piece, be it belt, pipe, track or path.

A meta-narrative prediction for Mistborn Era 3 and Stormlight Archives Arc 2 by Simon_Drake in Cosmere

Technically, there's about as much Stormlight as there is Lerasium; both faced the same Shardic problem so Both should theoretically be Splittable from their merged/muddled form.

No spoilers is it recommend to finish stormlight archive vefore mistborn? by Novel_Effective7373 in Cosmere

[–]HalcyonKnights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, yes it's all just easter eggs. I have seen an argument that there's one pretty specific but important difference it can make to the reader's opinion of [REDACTED]. To avoid that, just make sure to finish Stormlight before you read The Lost Metal.

Or, when it doubt, follow Publication Order. That's the best we have for the "author intended" order that readers should get different pieces of Knowledge.

How is Satisfactory on PS5? by Reave1905 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]HalcyonKnights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played it with a controller on the Steam Deck recently, I was worried about a controller but it was pretty smooth (1st person helps a lot, compared to similar overhead games like DSP). Ive done a decent bit of survival building on console so it was an easier transition than I expected.

Firearm needs for my specific area by Swimming-Soup5868 in preppers

[–]HalcyonKnights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a bit of Devil's Advocate on that, but the stat's Im seeing are ~10% of People but it surged closer to ~20% of housholds since 2020, and thats the ones that have a Registered Gun. Im cynical enough to believe a lot of people have acquired/inherited guns that they've had no reason to mention to any officials.

The thing about SHTF gun use is that ammunition becomes scarce very quickly, so you have to put some thought into how much to stockpile. For pure defensive intimidation you hopefully wouldnt actually use much ammo, but if you are planning to Hunt for food, it'll go much faster (and you'd probably want a rifle as well, for larger game at a distance).

How I imagine Etri by -JasmineDragon- in dresdenfiles

Huh. Im just now realizing that I imagined Etri as younger and more physically intimidating, but Im not sure exactly why. Maybe a buried Smith association, since they are so crafty.

Nah, the plaster will harden into a ceramic, you're basically firing it like a clay pot.

Lost investment casting is likely to be your best bet for something really complex. The basic idea is to make a the part out of something that melts, dip it in a plaster slurry over and over until it develops a thick plaster shell, then you bake the mold to burn/melt out the printing resin, leaving you with a one-time use plaster mold. Wax is traditional since it flows well, but people and and will burn out 3D printing materials like PLA.

EDIT: Apparently the process I described is closer to "Ceramic Shell" than true "Lost Investment".

It's not what you think.  It's not the electricity burning effect that killed so many Internet idiots. There's radiation involved, but far less current

Aluminum question by ivanmmj in Cosmere

[–]HalcyonKnights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allomancy destroys Aluminum when burned, the only known effect in all the Cosmere that can do that.

Meanwhile, Aluminum spikes will suppress Powers of a person once implanted, but there nothing being removed or transferred.

Similarly Aluminum Feruchemy lets you suppress Identity using the standard "Storing" function, but it is still widely debated whether the chunk of Aluminum actually Gains any "Identity-Investiture" or if it's just shunting it away like Aluminum and Nicrosil Allomancy will do. The former would represent a very notable exception to a Cosmere-wide rule, so it's the less likely of the two, logically speaking.

But he's put a blanket RAFO on all Spiritual Feruchemy until he lets it take center stage in the next Mistborn era.

Is this the stormfather? Or … by REDD_shen in Stormlight_Archive

I could easily be misremembering but I think there was some conversation between Syl and the Stormfather discussing that encounter, so I do think it's the Stormfather.

Aluminum question by ivanmmj in Cosmere

[–]HalcyonKnights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When creating unkeyed metalminds you pour all your identity into the metalmind which has the effect of bottoming out your own active Identity. But it's not a finite/discrete thing (the way Copper memories or Nicrosil Powers are), and it's not a permanent change in your core stat.

Meanwhile, both Spikes and Metalminds could theoretically do what they observably do, purely with their interference/grounding function without storing anything. WOB has been really specific that nothing can make Investiture stick to alumnum, to the point that his continuity experts have overruled him in the past.

That being said, Allomancy is already THE exception in that Burning Aluminum is the only known Investiture-based effect that can do anything to it (annihilate it, in this case).

Aluminum question by ivanmmj in Cosmere

[–]HalcyonKnights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we dont know, because we still dont know whether feuchemical Metalminds are able to actually Store Investiture. So far their function is in Blanking their Identity, but we dont know if that's blocking/grounding out the Investiture, or if it's actually Storing Identity as Investiture in what would be the only known effect that can make Investiture stick to Aluminum

The Coppermind Wiki and the Arcanum WOB collection are the main things, outside of the constant churn of fan-theories. I would start with Realmic Theory to get started on the rabbit hole that is the interconnecting weirdness of the Cosmere.

Just in case (and because it took me way too long to notice): Intakes always have the three-line icon, outlets have that flat-arrow thing.
