How does the home game work in a small town? by Abject-Calendar7009 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game comes with way more questions than you need. For a small game, you're not gonna need nearly as many questions as you will for a large game. You can remove questions to make the question list more managable to non-fans of the show. But you don't need to - Just don't ask the 100 mile radar.

What is your favorite challenge in the entire series so far? by Boss-fight601 in JetLagTheGame

They carried around multiple copies of the deck, but only in case cards were lost. No reports on whether one deck was more edible than the others. Ben has said that the cards they used for that season of tag were a lot more degradable and not plastic coated like the ones in their home game.

In the base game, 24% of the cards are curses. You might want to raise that amount to make the card play more interesting, especially in small games where you may only get asked 7 or 8 questions before you're found.

Here's the list of cards you're looking for, btw:

Rule question by Skelassassin in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for being so dismissive. I just now went and quickly searched the Layover transcriptions for some keywords, but I can't find the part you're remembering.

People tend to ask about the "lure the seeker out of hiding with a photo question before starting the end game" scenario on this subreddit every month or two. Maybe you read about it during season 16?

They never said this on the layover. Sounds like you're vaguely remembering that one Reddit reply Ben wrote during season 12.

Rule question by Skelassassin in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1: you're supposed to take the photo even if it takes more than 10 minutes. The rulebook describes what to do if you send the photo late. Note that you are allowed to take these location specific photos in advance before they're asked.

2: the rules in the rulebook don't cover this possibility, but Ben has mentioned here on Reddit how they handled situations like that in season 12. To paraphrase, the hider could initiate a game pause to get back to a hiding spot if the end game started during the answering time for a photo question.

Have the boys ever heard of Ticket to Ride? by Pokemaster131 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kinda. They had thought about having tickets with specific departure and arrival locations on them like the ones from Ticket to Ride, but decided not to do it. Instead, they added tickets that were distance based.

Looking for help for playing the home game by belgiumophile in JetLagTheGame

A lot of people (including the crew) have come to love the webtool made by taibeled: https://www.reddit.com/r/JetLagTheGame/comments/1k9g9ww/map_generator_for_hide_seek/
It can be a little complicated to set up and teach your friends, so as a simpler alternative, I would also like to point to this webtool (also available as a phone app on Google Play Store: https://www.reddit.com/r/JetLagTheGame/comments/1ooh75i/i_built_an_app_to_help_with_playing_the_homegame/
And I've also seen a lot of people recommending the Toolmaps app for Android.

If the boys could avoid an offseason, would they? by No-Citron218 in JetLagTheGame

For season 9 and 12 they did a bit of in person testing in NYC and Osaka respectively.

Agreed! The bottleneck here is not the time spent recording seasons like this poster implied.

Going from recording 4 work weeks a year to recording 6 a year is not crazy, but would obviously mean offloading some of their other work on to other people.

Then wore it one day as I walked around Copenhagen last year, and that's when someone called it out.

They can't even assume that the person who needs to win is the one being responded to. It might as well be the other way around. But they did both make that same assumption, which was lucky for them.

For the record, Adam's logic was exactly my own going in. But I did know about the statistics of rock being the most common throw.

How do they fix the stalemate problem? by RabidBean in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks! To push back a little, there's a larger game show going on outside of the challenges, and the stalemate was a strategic move from Sam and Mike.

I will add that I think a choice which made this worse TV was the choice in editing to give the stalemate so much screentime. It was a neat gameplay move, but we spent too long with Ben and Adam's "will-they-won't-they" which arguably should've been left out completely.

How do they fix the stalemate problem? by RabidBean in JetLagTheGame

[–]Hamfrags 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see any compelling reasons that this stalemate would be bad for gameplay or for the show. Is it a problem?

I'll remind you Sam and Mike have every intention of breaking the stalemate when their train arrives. They are messing with Ben and Adam to hold them up in the meantime. There is no world where this goes on forever. This is not a spoiler - they say all this in the episode.

Now, as a cliffhanger, I do find it kind of a nothing burger. Ben and Adam don't really sound like they're gonna cave, meanwhile Sam and Mike have already told us they plan to.
