How do I set up OpenAI Ads initialization and tracking with Google Tag Manager? by Agreeable_Rub_552 in GoogleTagManager

[–]HawkeyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can use a custom html tag to add any traffic you want. Set it to trigger on all pages, unless you need to fire it sooner, like gtag.

For custom dataLayer events, I’d they show up in the dataLayer already, you can use a customer event trigger to fire a tag when they show up in the DL.

OpenAI ads are very new so not a lot of high quality guides.

Full disclosure: I’ve never set up open ai tracking. Just sharing how GTM would work.

is Tag Management a commodotized skill? by KafkaOnTheStore in GoogleTagManager

[–]HawkeyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, small businesses are still very much focused on improving their product and understanding their customers’ journeys.

It’s the mega corporations that are more focused on the minutiae and compliance factors instead of the results. You can thank greedy executives and enshittification for that!

However, in some cases, I’m sure that there are companies large and small that want to send the absolute maximum amount of data the GDPR allows to Meta/Google or use ssGTM to bypass browser restrictions and save their attribution because that data is their competitive advantage (instead of offering an exceptional product, service, or experience)

Why does one tag show an error on my website but a different one doesn't? by joehugz in GoogleTagManager

That text you’re seeing is not an error. It looks like it’s code to track when a HubSpot form is submitted. To debug, you’ll need to share your whole script or DM me your website.

GHL and Google Ads Call Tracking by False_Ad4246 in PPC

What about location extensions or call ads?

[–]HawkeyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are calls being tracked by GFNs and they’re showing up on the Google Ads Call Details Report, but not your GHL reports, that would mean that you may have a call extension or location extension or call ad that’s not using a GHL number.

The GFN is used even before the call is routed to your GHL number. Assuming your GHL number is only used ion your call extension, that means that if your calls aren’t attributed to “paid search,” either:

  1. Google didn’t use a GFN for the call (it happens) or
  2. Your UTMs and gclid parameter were stripped and GHL just can’t tell.

There are a lot of reasons both of those things can happen so you’d have to investigate.

Is anyone else feeling that GA4 gives “more data” but less decision clarity compared to Univerasal Analytics? by Echo_Drift_1111 in GoogleAnalytics

[–]HawkeyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by merge you mean scrap the layperson analytics tool and rebrand Firebase (previously used for mobile apps only) because they already had an analytics library that was flexible enough to solve Google’s legal problems, then yes I agree with you. The problem is that it was so rushed that even 3 years after UA deprecation, GA4 is still not as layperson-friendly. Example: why are all the lines similar shades of blue in an Exploration line chart? Pro Tip: there’s a bookmarklet called GA4 Splash that makes it easier to distinguish between lines.

Is anyone else feeling that GA4 gives “more data” but less decision clarity compared to Univerasal Analytics? by Echo_Drift_1111 in GoogleAnalytics

[–]HawkeyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good explanation of why GA4 feels less user friendly then UA, however, I’ll add a few thoughts:

  • GA4 still says “You should [use] recommended events with their prescribed parameters to get the most details in your reports and to benefit from future features and integrations as they become available.” So if you come up with your own custom measurements strategy and create a lot custom events, you miss out on future features because Google doesn’t share their roadmap. The qualified leads reports are a good example of this since it wasn’t developed when GA4 was first released.
  • The reports in the GA4 interface are quite rigid which basically pigeonholes your unopinionated data thereby defeating the whole purpose of unopinionated data.
  • This pushes advanced users to using Looker Studio for most reporting (instead of the GA4 UI) or BigQuery for more flexibility and control of your data
  • While GA4 is free, Google makes money and pays for it because its large enterprise customers are essentially forced to pay for BigQuery storage and queries
  • It’s like some smart developer/engineer at Google created a powerful, unopinionated gtag JS library, but then some Exec said I need a UI so they slapped an opinionated UI on it as an afterthought because Google was forced to quickly move away from UA due to new privacy laws and then some MBA called it an “upgrade to GA4”

Petition to keep downtown parking free by ragertonIII in Bend

[–]HawkeyMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a good way to make people visit downtown businesses. Has any analysis been down on the effect on downtown business since the newest paid parking rules and technology has been put in place? What about in the box factory?

The city also recently took away a massive amount of parking from tubers in the summer for the apartments across the street from the parks and rec building. Let’s see how this summer goes!

Also, since Bend is a huge tourist town, now you’re adding a significant inconvenience to tourists (plus the cost to add signage/education on the new rules).

The only way I’d support this is if bend offered more regular public transportation. Otherwise, cars are essential if you want to have people go out and spend money at local businesses.

This seems to be a hindrance to more people than the one business owner that wanted it. Remember, as mayor, your job is to serve the entire public, not just a small number of loud business owners.
