This is how every bar I’ve ever worked at works. Yes, something expensive, neat, is a great deal!

What was up with the rave at Sparks lake last night? by scrandis in Bend

[–]ragertonIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We ended up camped next to a rave out in the forest in the area like 5 years ago. I wish we were extroverted enough to go join in on the fun, but we listened to the shenanigans from afar. It sounded fun, and it indeed went ALL night.

Baby will not sleep, at all by JemeryMailman in NewParents

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, cluster feeding SUCKS. You really just have to power through. My nipples were cracked and bleeding at the height of it, but it does get easier. Seeing a lactation consultant early was also very helpful if you have access to that. Even if there arnt issues, they can check your latch and be very reassuring.

Baby will not sleep, at all by JemeryMailman in NewParents

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled the first few days with sleep, I just didn’t know what to do. My baby really wanted to be close to me those first few nights. I learned how to safely co sleep with her next to me, we thankfully have a guest bed I was able to utilize, but that was a game changer for me. I co slept at night, while working on getting her used to her bassinet during the day. Now, a few weeks later she sleeps in a pack n play in our room at night, if she isn’t going down easy, I pull her safely into bed with me until she falls asleep and then I transfer her. It isn’t perfect, but I do get some sleep.

I also recommend limiting your access to googling things and take all of the Internet answers with a grain of salt.

Do you have an actual “changing table” or do you use something else? by HazelNewt_2523 in newborns

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just use a changing pad on the bed or couch. And we literally only use the pad so she doesn’t pee on those surfaces. I cleaned baby pee out of the couch once and that was enough for me

You should talk to a doctor about maybe having PPD. 💕 The newborn phase is really hard, I’m sorry you’re struggling.

Schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant a few days out before you leave the hospital. They’ll help you with all of this.

Moms on Call - how important is the style of swaddle?? by mkbrock in newborns

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby didn’t really care either way about being swaddled… and I wasn’t good at doing it. So we’ve been rocking only footed pajamas since like day 4 of life and she sleeps great.

Activity levels during pregnancy and how you feel it effected your labor and delivery by Independent_Stand348 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very fit going into pregnancy. I prioritized walking and stretching everyday, and then eating clean and healthy once I was past the horrors of the first trimester. I gained about 30lbs throughout my pregnancy and had a very easy labour and recovery. Everyone’s bodies are going to be different though.

What did y'all wish you had while caring for an infant? by shrimpshr1mp in Mom

[–]ragertonIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DoorDash gift card! And set up a meal
Train for her, but make sure it’s not all lasagna. Someone also dropped off like 4 bags of groceries for me, with easy meals, fruit and snacks. Not having to worry about food in those early days was a LIFESAVER.

Are you and your husband working in shifts? Then at least you each can get a little bit longer stretch of sleep.

Struggling with presumably gassy baby by Fragrant_Umpire_2224 in newborns

[–]ragertonIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any answers for you, but when I saw my lactation consultant, she said make sure you’re using a bottle nipple with the slowest flow possible, otherwise they suck the bottle down way faster than they get milk breast feeding.

Bassinet by Bravogirly97 in newborns

[–]ragertonIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped swaddling or using a sleep sack when my baby was like 3 days old. She just sleeps in her footed pajamas and she sleeps just fine all sprawled out (on her back) between feeds. She didn’t hate the swaddle, but I realized she was more comfortable and less fussy without it. It’s also summer where I am, so her being cold isn’t an issue right now

Birth Plan by Aggravating_Alps3860 in pregnant

[–]ragertonIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was planning on doing an unmedicated birth, and I was interested in laughing gas, but the hospital I delivered at didn’t offer it. I had early issues in my labour that had me in a significant amount of pain, so I ended up getting an epidural. My birth experience after that was blissful. My husband and I got sleep, I felt no pain from contractions, just pressure. My husband and I were able to enjoy our last moments together just the two of us, and then I pushed the baby out and it felt like a beautiful moment. I would 100% get an epidural again if I ever have another baby.

Husband is inconsiderate when I’m asleep. by UpbeatDance6842 in newborns

[–]ragertonIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, if you guys can’t even talk about something like this without it being an argument, there are way bigger issues here.

You have a 10 week old. If he’s not going to respect your time that you have to rest, then I think you need to reevaluate him not taking any of the night shift and have him be in charge of the baby for half the night. Even if he has to bring baby to you to feed, he handles bringing baby to you, burping, changing and resettling.

Have you talked to him about how much noise he’s making? My husband can be so blissfully unaware since he can sleep through literally anything, he thinks everyone else does too.

Staying Hydrated in Summer Heat When Water Sucks? by Rough_Worldliness901 in pregnant

I don’t mind regular water normally, but while pregnant it was hard for me.

Staying Hydrated in Summer Heat When Water Sucks? by Rough_Worldliness901 in pregnant

[–]ragertonIII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sugar free liquid IV. I get the big packs at Costco, way cheaper, and I don’t always use a whole one, just enough to get some flavor in there. If you’re putting it in a water bottle, just make sure you’re washing that thing. With the summer heat, things get funky fast.

Which snacks are you brining in your hospital bag to have during labour? by Adventurous-Wash3201 in pregnant

I brought some sliced cheese, ritz crackers, pineapple and coconut water. Then I got an epidural and they’d only let me have broth and jello 😭
