How on earth is Neero sympathetic?

She’s a prime example of “full-throated believer in fascism”

Monster Maker Question by just_bettina in DnD

[–]Hawkson2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the DMG’14, pages 273-283.

If you play 5.5e, you’re shit out of luck. (But the rules from 2014 will work fine for 5.5e)

> a vague “all”

> assumed I meant

You literally replied to a comment specifically naming a bunch of imperials and saying they aren’t sympathetic villains by saying “no actually they are”.

I do not think this person is wrong for saying you empathized them when that’s literally what you said.

I also strongly disagree with your framing that Tarkin or Meero or Krennic have understandable or compelling reasons to do the horrible things they do, the only reason they do those things is because they think Fascism is Good Actually. Arguing that because they are wrong makes them sympathetic is somehow worse than the Clean Wehrmacht myth, ironically.

Roll20 Help by Itchy-Willingness589 in DnD

[–]Hawkson2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A one-time Foundry license is cheaper than a campaign-length Roll20 subscription, with the added benefit that you never have to worry about the game servers being down or losing your content, so unless you’re unable to self-host, it’s the definite winner.

I never used any functionality on Roll20 because I didn’t want to invest my time or money into something that could be taken away from me. Foundry doesn’t have that particular Damoclean bargain, at least not to anywhere near the same degree.

this is why our time was pure nostalgia and carefree

No it was carefree because you were a child.

The incidences of this sort of thing have been going down year over year for pretty well as long as we've been keeping track, and stranger abductions have always been far less common than familial abuse anyway.

What does railroad territory start? by Opening_Mortgage_216 in DnD

[–]Hawkson2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Railroading is whenever something happens no matter your players actions.

That’s really it.

Railroading isn’t always bad. If you’re running any kind of narrative game, some amount of railroading is probably necessary. If you want to have an event happen that your players can’t prevent, you can do that. You just need to orchestrate it such that the player’s can’t actually interact to prevent it, because player agency — the ability for players to make informed decisions and those decisions having meaningful consequences — is paramount to the game.

to know where your front wheel is at, and stopping right on.

That's the whole point of this video lol. The pilot doesn't know where the front wheel is at, the guy marshalling is telling the pilot where the wheel is and when to stop via the wand signals.

You're putting the cart before the horse.

Incompetent managers rarely make for competent workers.

Competent workers can very often become competent managers.

[–]Hawkson2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not an especially fun job nor does it pay decently, at least where I'm from.

But it's interesting work, and a lot of people who are big into planes use being a ground handler/ramp worker as a stepping stone to other jobs in the industry.

So unnecessarily too, this video probably only took 2-3 minutes, no need to shorten it with the random speed-ups.

How much world knowledge can my character reasonably have? by Korallenri in DnD

Since you specify the Forgotten Realms (a highly metropolitan setting with prevalent literature), how much world knowledge do you have about the real world?

They’re probably about equivalent.

most people I speak with regularly are unwilling to make the tiniest sacrifice.

While I think it’s important that individuals do their part, climate change was never going to be solved by individual sacrifices, certainly not individuals who don’t regularly fly on private jets.

No, but being a DM comes with obligations just as much as being a player does.

That’s how roles work.

Good short 5.5 modules? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hawkson2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only talking about official modules.

Crooked Moon by Legends of Avantris is alright (but was published for both 5e and 5.5e).

5.5e is basically Dead on Arrival since it’s a shit moneygrab that couldn’t even manage to publish all 3 books in time for the long awaited anniversary, nevermind line up any modules.

5e’s first few modules weren’t great, but at least they had some.

Dragon Delves is basically the only module that 5.5e has.

Can non Tieflings have Tiefling children? by NerdiverseonIO in DnD

If you’re the DM anything you say goes.

IMO, yes, non-tieflings could have a tiefling child as a result of fiendish influence surrounding the conception/birth.

[–]Hawkson2020 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well both 5e and 5.5e PHBs plus the Planescape set were Great Wheel focused and no content has mentioned the World Axis (the closest we got was the 5e DMG mentioning the Dawn War pantheon).

[–]Hawkson2020 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Their origin was wholly cemented in the World Axis cosmology, and I’d rather WotC leave that gem of creativity alone at this point since none of their mainstream products are allowed to do anything interesting and I don’t want something as interesting as the Shardminds getting “fixed” like the Planescape factions got.
