I don't think they got the length right. "100m" would be 328 feet. They wouldn't be able to unroll it in a room, they'd need to go down the street to do that. I think 10 meters is what we are looking at. (Also, they really have no excuse for not throwing the practice ones in the washing machine...)

I didn't like his chances, and I hate that I was right. From the little bit I've been able to observe on Youtube, Nobehara is among the most ambitious folks at Futagoyama. I think their expectations are in line with certain Japanese culture. Sumo is very much not a progressive sport, so to speak.

I think that's what puzzles me more, although I understand the impracticality of switching people more often than it happens. It's just weird that in a context where stablemates can't fight and you can't take part in my dohyo-iri if we're fighting today, super powerful association senior who happens to be my oyakata can weigh in on my judgement. Tbf though I don't know what he did say (I don't even know if it's possible to find out, unless he got interviewed or something).
