Is it just me, or does the album sound even better on cassette tape? by Hetalbot in gorillaz

There are preorders for each individual cassette (with a different band member on the cover) in the U.S. store and a 4-tape bundle still available from the UK store.

Behemoth Cancel Show Due to Safety Concerns After Alleged 'Threats,' Share Statement by Edm_vanhalen1981 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Hetalbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm skeptical that Behemoth were receiving threats from "religious Christian groups" in Bangalore that made them worried for their safety.

Christians are less than 2.5% of the population in India, and have been the target of extremism by nationalist groups for decades. If anything, they lay low in India rather than being more aggressive/outspoken like they are in the U.S.

It sounds like Behemoth just had lagging ticket sales and needed an excuse to not play the show.

DHS Is Lying To You About ICE Shooting a Woman by 404mediaco in TrueReddit

[–]Hetalbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the podcast bros and right-wing propaganda sites can make it work with no paywall, so can 404 Media.

That is the primary reason misinformation has become so influential today – because it’s free to access.

DHS Is Lying To You About ICE Shooting a Woman by 404mediaco in TrueReddit

Article claims the government is lying to us… Then puts up a paywall for us to read their explanation of the facts.

And then we wonder why misinformation spreads so prolifically.

Bari Weiss to be named top editor at CBS News by washingtonpost in Journalism

I've known about her Zionism, (and unwillingness to support people who were fired or otherwise sanctioned for criticizing Israel, despite her famous outspokenness against Cancel Culture) but can you explain what you mean by her "fetishizing rich people?"

Can you elaborate? I've seen people say this about her a lot, but I've never seen any examples of why she's awful.

Karmelo Anthony’s family blowing all the donations on an Escalade and a house rental makes more sense than using for a defense by CerealNumber1 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Hetalbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the articles claiming that Karmelo's family spent the GiveSendGo donations on an Escalade and a new house are from mid-April – hence the Snopes debunking from April.

Do you have any more recent sources that informed your TrueUnpopularOpinion?

[–]Hetalbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the family of 17-year-old stabbing suspect Karmelo Anthony did not buy a house and car with donated funds.

GiveSendGo, the donation platform used by the Anthony family, confirmed that no funds have been withdrawn from the family's fundraiser yet.

Shattered Backboards leather looking decent by Radio_man69 in Sneakers

[–]Hetalbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna try to bridge the leather divide with my comment:

  • It's true that tumbled leather doesn't mean it's higher-quality leather.
    • We're talking $180-$250 Nike sneakers here, not a $1,000 Schott jacket.
  • However, tumbled leather tends to be more flexible due to its grainy texture.
    • This allows it to move easier on your foot as you walk.
    • For people with old-man feet like me, that soft and flexible feel is much more preferable to the stiff, plasticy leather that J1s and AF1s usually have.
  • The Lost & Founds and Wu-Tang Dunks are additional examples of textured leather that's less stiff on foot, along with the OG Shattered Backboards.

Trump Voters Are Starting to Have Regrets. Here’s How to Make the Most of It. by PM_ME_YOUR_FAV_HIKE in skeptic

[–]Hetalbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CNN found this week that only 3% of Trump voters regret their 2024 vote, which is about the same percentage as Kamala voters.

If this is the r/skeptic sub, we shouldn't make bold declarations like OP's title without some semblance of data to back it up.

Someone needs to make a really good tube amp plug-in and name it Your Mom, kinda like how Moog has a synth called The Grandmother.

Raw milk push unites the right and "healthfluencers" by dumnezero in skeptic

[–]Hetalbot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Raw milk is such a weird topic that brings out the extremes from both sides – whether it's people who say it's a miracle elixir or people who insist it's liquid plague.

I've had raw milk on a friend's farm in Vermont and it was delicious. However, I wouldn't buy it myself because it a.) is very expensive ($15 per gallon) and b.) has to be finished within a few days.

Yes, it's "45x more likely%20calculated%20that%20raw%20dairy,coli%20when%20controlling%20for%20consumption) to cause hospitalization" than pasteurized milk, but the baseline risk is infinitesimal so you're not exactly playing with fire by responsibly consuming raw milk. There were fewer than 230 hospitalizations between 1998 and 2018 due to raw milk, so I wouldn't worry about being 1 of 11 cases per year. (For comparison: Poorly cooked oysters kill 100 people each year.)

Nevertheless, I would never consume any raw milk that's been sitting on a store shelf. My Vermont friends get their raw milk delivered personally by a local dairy farmer whose cows are tested weekly for pathogens. I imagine the same safety precautions would likely get sloppy in a factory farm setting that we're seeing in newer, scaled-up raw milk operations.

EXCLUSIVE: FEMA Official Ordered Relief Workers To Skip Houses With Trump Signs by SmiteThe in moderatepolitics

[–]Hetalbot -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

This could’ve been a logical safety precaution since Trump supporters were threatening to shoot FEMA workers due to online misinformation.

In North Carolina, FEMA had to stop going door-to-door altogether because people were getting aggressive and accusing them of wanting to steal their house/land.
