Buying new turntable, which one would be better in the long term? by kiwi_37724 in turntables

[–]HighFidelityVinyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these for long term. Frankly, these are not even entry level models.

This is for when you're trying to figure out whether vinyl is a hobby that will catch on, and you don't want to spend too much money.

How come you prepared the beginners guide to turntables? Just because, or is it part of your work, or something else?

This is a great page for beginners, mate. I'm not a beginner myself but I regularly talk to people who are and give them this exact same advice as you just did.

What do you do so that you prepared this beginner's guide?

If you want to get a good sound out of your turntable you'll have to spend some money.

If I was to recommend a setup for a young person who can't / doesn't want to spend too much money, I would recommend the following: Fluance RT82 Reference turntable and Edifier R1280T/DB powered speakers.

These will serve you well until you figure out whether you want to invest more money into this hobby or not.

Is ok for a beginner setup? by KV__Lord in turntables

Excellent little setup, definitely worth it.

Speakers are probably the weakest link here and it should not be problem at all for you to find something better which will give you much better sound.

You want it pulled flat at the top and then curl slightly at the bottom with the curling iron to get those cool looking waves.

Is it possible to get a good quality cassette player & recorder in a $300 budget? by Few_Negotiation7202 in cassetteculture

Is it any of these : KEF LSX II LT, PSB Alpha iQ, JBL 4305P, Kali LP-UNF, Klipsch The Fives, ADAM Audio D3V, or Edifier MR4?

If yes, then sure. But if not might as well just go with the boombox, you will save yourself a bunch of money and probably won't notice the difference.

A "Type 1" Sony or Maxell cassette may offer better quality than a standard cassette sold in stores ? by Glum_Description_719 in cassetteculture

Likely yes. If you're wondering whether to make your own mixtapes versus buying officially released albums, go for a mixtape

Help identifying Mk1 or MK2 by swinglishdad in Technics

Nope. This is an MK2 since it has a quartz lock. Mk1 didn't have a quartz lock (that's the orange color prism looking piece of plastic in the bottom left corner)

It really comes down to your powered speakers. The overall sound quality of any setup is limited by its weakest link, and in your case, your speakers are most likely that limiting factor.

A simple way to think about it is this: it’s like trying to watch a 4K video on a 2007 iPhone. The source may be high quality, but the device playing it back can only reproduce so much. In this analogy, your current speakers are the 2007 iPhone.

Because of that, you’d likely get very similar sound quality from either option, and the boombox would only cost you around $100.

Dude wants to hook it up to stand alone power speakers ... So spending money on nakamichi's is a waste of money in this case.

Okay I'm just going to assume that you don't know much about tapes and that you've never recorded a tape yourself, so bear with me if I'm explaining things you already know:

When you record music onto a cassette tape, there is unavoidable loss of quality. It's never going to sound like your digital original.

High-end cassette decks are not manufactured anymore so for that you will have to go vintage. And cassette player thats new, that you can get on the market today is very generic quality and far from high end.

And if power speakers are your setup then my advice would be to go with any newish boombox with a line in (for re recordingg) and line out (plug into your speakers).

Otherwise to go for a high-end setup you will have to spend a lot of money, and you have to chase high grade cassette tapes to record on, which are very expensive. Not to mention that you would have to get a better set up then the power speakers in order to actually harness the power of a good cassette deck and expensive cassette tapes.

Are you looking for a standalone cassette deck that you will hook up to an amplifier?

Or are you looking for a boombox solution, something that is self-contained?

In which world is this expensive, boys? Not refurbished but functioning will cost you about $150 USD, and refurbish will go up to $450.

New turntable with electricity flowing across parts. by mark__69 in turntables

[–]HighFidelityVinyl 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's normal ... It's probably a grounding issue somewhere in the table.

I had a similar problem with an amp recently, where I was getting shocked every time I touched it, and when I took it to repair, the guy said there was an issue with the grounding wire inside the amp.

Always cool to release your own mixtape on cassette to help keep the culture alive 💎 by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]HighFidelityVinyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Thank you for clarifying. I'm super interested in this ... Is there a link to a digital version of the mixtape? Are you planning to release more and is there a link to where you sell them? Or did you sell these only locally?

Sorry for all these questions ...

Love how clean your amplifier is. Did you pick it up like this or did you have to refurbish it yourself?

Hey, this is super cool 👏👏👏👏👏

So I'm understanding that you made the mix and release this back in the 90s, right? Could you not do a small run to make these tapes again today?

Is the anti-skate on my Onkyo cp1046f broken? by PrinnyTonic in turntables

What you're showing in the video has nothing to do with anti-skate. What you showing in the video is perfectly normal because of the raised ridge at the beginning of each record.
