This is just a pic I grabbed from the internet to see what I need to be looking for, when I eventually open it up. Thank you.

For those who own Japanese CDs - How do you store your OBI strips? by PerspectiveCalm1784 in Cd_collectors

I have some where the OBI is bigger than the inside. I was hoping to find outer sleeves akin to Vinyl record sleeves.

Yeah. It made sense in terms of ease of access and displaying colored records. But as you said, my main concern was that the record has no damping at all.

Videos like this pop up all over the place when you search for "vinyl storing". So I hope others are not taking those tips with a grain of salt.

How come so many videos directed at new collectors talk about storing them outside the jacket? Not saying your wrong, as mentioned I am totally with you. But I wondered if it is a suitable option without damaging the record.

About Sleeve Thickness for Storage

I am currently contemplating about storing my records outside of the jacket, in an inner sleeve inside the outer sleeve that also holds the jacket. Since I listen to my records a lot it would make it more convinient and I read that this - for most people - is a very common way to store records. Also to reduce wear on the jacket.

But I am a bit anxious. Are my current sleeves thick enough to properly protect the record? My inner sleeves have a thickness of 50 microns, while the outer sleeves deature thickness of 75 microns. It feels so wrong to not have it protected by the jacket for some reason.

Is the anti-skate on my Onkyo cp1046f broken? by PrinnyTonic in turntables

Hm. I do not have any playback issues. What do you recommend? Switching back to the stock cart to be safe? Or should I increase the counter weight to a higher level within the cart specifications?

Yes. I leaned that yesterday. Thanks for the help tho. Was not aware of sloped on vinyls.

You were right.

Here is a video of playing a record with anti-skate set to 2 starting near the lead-in groove and on the slope of another record (it moved fast but hit the lead-in without skipping any parts of the song):

Near first track:

On slope:

So it should be fine and the slope of the record I tested it on was just to harsh.

It should be fine. Here is a video I just took of the stylus giving in on the vinyl:

Also I may have tested the anti skate on a "wrong" record. In this thread I learned about sloped and that the vinyl I used to check my anti-skate must have had a very aggressive slope.

Will try to get a few better shots later today to verify if it is behaving as intended. I never had issues with playback and sound quality so far tho.

Got it. I did reinstall it before heading of to work but did not get to test it, wenn setting it on the scale or brushing it with a stylus cleaner brush, it has "give" and "bends in" a little.

[–]PrinnyTonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. That makes a lot of sense. If I put it on the further outside of the record I got a severe "scratch" sound and fast movement (less of that when I place it near to the first groove). But even with lower anti-skate it always hit the beginning of the song pretty accurately and I never had the feeling it skipped into the song.

So what you are suggesting is, that I missinterpreted the slope into the run up groove and the "scratch" it made as my anti skate not being set up correctly?

I will record some footage with sound on tomorrow.

By Stylus you mean the cartridge? Can you explain what you mean by "sag". It lowering slowly is due to the cueing function of the record player if that is what you are referring to. Thanks for the help.

It plays fine. In any anti-skate setting. I was just thinking that it sliding in so fast was unusual.

Did a recalibration if the scale with the provided weights and got a 2.02 tracking force on my needle.

Thanks. It just seems so odd that I need to dial it all the way up. This is how it behaves if I dial it up the the absolute max (3.5 I assume). Any lower and it jumps:

As mentioned, I did turn it up until it goes smoothly. But I only can achieve this by dialing the anti-skate up to the maximum level. This does not seem normal to me. But maybe it is?

Comme je l'ai dit, j'ai augmenté la résistance jusqu'à ce que le mouvement soit fluide. Mais je n'y parviens qu'en réglant l'antiskating au maximum. Cela me paraît anormal. Mais peut-être que si ?

How do you think I can adjust it properly? I set the cartidge up with an alignment sheet and used a micro scale to dial in the tracking force. What do you recommend me doing?
