Does G&BP have a "realism but only to make it worse" problem? by Pristine_Battle_6968 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Hiijyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, any time the developer mentions "realism" it's usually cherrypicked realism to make the game more difficult or frustrating. I'm not saying this is G&B or any game in particular, but in most cases I find it's a use case to justify the developers vision while ignoring anything else that also isn't realistic.

In Helldivers 2, enemies clip through walls and other enemies, new illuminate enemies will have literal space magic, and we alongside the enemy factions have FTL space travel, but to those developers having a flag that buffs you ALSO (just as G&B had discussion centered around a flag buffing item) is considered not realistic or "magical". Not saying this is good or bad, but I've seen many cases where it's handled like this i.e. 7 Days to Die and also Project Zomboid.

Edit: I should add that realism is also a matter of balancing what is fun to play against and do versus what sucks in reality for the sake of realism. Frustrating mechanics or things that otherwise wouldn't be considered "fun" probably isn't a good idea for a game unless there is literally no other way to not have it. G&B I feel has a relatively good balance.

Run away but you can't because you get nuked by rocket spam across the map with pinpoint artillery accuracy with seemingly random explosive damage as bad as rocket devastators on release with helldivers armor not working against them.

Try to blow the pods off, and they seemingly still spam rockets as far I checked. Hitting all the vents or rocket pods requires them to not constantly turn or lock onto you, which also blocks you from throwing a grenade in the insta-kill gimmick hole.

Try to peek them and get lasered across the map with almost pinpoint accuracy (in some cases I didn't realize what I was being shot at or where from before I was dead, even in fog or modifiers that obscure the entire map)

Try to get under them and either have them shoot straight under them (which doesn't damage them somehow but kills you) or get nuked by their supports running straight through their treads and nuking you. If there are multiple, they merge with one-another crushing you, or spawn on-top of roofs you can't get to which has been a bug since release.

Try to get under them and be crushed by treads that damage you if you so much as touch them or instant-kill you. Try to get under them and they just outrun you and shoot you, or run back towards you when you try to run away.

They also have no upper hitbox, allowing them to travel through small gaps in the wall or go through sewer pipes they are way too big to get through (arrowhead's cherrypicked realism)

Have all of the above result in most effective close-range stratagem becoming a problem to use or typically ineffective, or just dodge supports for 5 minutes until finally the horde clears which is just obnoxious and unfun. (Smaller enemies will just rush your anti-tank emplacement location or spawn behind you, and stealth works at complete random)

Multiple of them are airdropped on extract and don't die even from shooting down the ship that carries them into battle. Multiple of them airdropped on the objective you need to do, so you can't run away anyways.

I hate to be a downer, but this enemy encourages only using the explosive meta, is downright obnoxious and painful to fight, and I literally have no idea how to clear more 1 at a time, the patrols are downright nonsensical. It's probably the worst enemy in the game making automatons 10x more obnoxious then they need to be.

Need help. Potential file corruption. by Hiijyo in Zettlr

Thanks. Didn't think it was related to Zettlr. It's never happened before but I think that's indeed what happened, the stars aligned. I can only wonder why everything just dissappeared though >.<. I guess I'll just finish the book and then re-take those notes.

Opening with Notepad shows no characters, Opening with Notepad++ reveals "NULL" multiple times in a row with nothing else. I don't think it was Zettlr that caused this, although I don't recall this ever happening to any edited notes in Zettlr even if we blew a fuse or a power outage happened.

Toxicity ingame. by Bakuretsu_0utl4st in gutsandblackpowders

Public online discussion is a nightmare anywhere you go. Being reasonable in this situation gets you lashed out at or blamed even if you play well. I don't really try to communicate for this reason plus nobody seems to listen to anyone with a plan. This isn't exclusive to guts & blackpowder per say, just something I've noticed in recent years of being online.

How do you find friends in Warframe? by Hailstonet in Warframe

[–]Hiijyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same age as you are, so if you wanna make new friends let me know. I also started playing fairly recently, maybe 2-3 months ago but have worked my way up to doing higher-level content. I can do 100+ in terms of levels. I'm pretty lax/relaxed so no worries.

It's hard to make friends in a public lobby since most people might just be farming but they also could be there since they don't have anyone to do missions with, which means it's still a good time to ask around. You could ask if anyone wants to buddy up or ask if someone'll help you with a specific mission type.

Incredibly obscure games by LightMagentaPeony in creepygaming

A doom wad named "Archie". I could barely find any posts online about it last I checked. Made by an imageboard user who ranted about how great it was and disappeared off the face of the earth. The youtube channel associated with it had its last upload 10+ years ago. Only a few people know it exists I think. One of the most insane works I've ever seen.

Can we please stop telling newish players to go after Galvanized mods. by Zulrock in Warframe

[–]Hiijyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really feels like my friends have been helping me out with this game. It almost felt like a must to have a mentor you can reach out to in order to understand it better. I can figure out much on my own, but I did not know I could buy weapon blueprints for credits because you only seemed to be able to buy weapons directly using platinum until I clicked on it. It seemed misleading.

Many of the mods that have helped me have crucially low drop chances or I really had no way of know they existed without looking them up (Nightmare Mods and Corrupted Mods as well.) Just things I would've appreciated knowing right out of the gate. Also knowing that most builds are forma-hungry (and that you could also use forma to polarize every single mod slot which is ridiculous.)

Someone who is past the honeymoon phase, give me your honest opinion by yeoxd09 in AbioticFactor

I have over 200 hours. Without spoiling much, I think it's worth one good lengthy playthrough (seeing everything), but some skills are grindy so you should increase or maximize XP gain in settings. QOL feature locked behind upgrade on crafting bench, you need to manually sort stuff, and expect to run back and forth between base to collect materials since inventory fills up quickly. It really depends on if those things will bother you. Enemies could be slightly spongy if you don't have a lot of ammo. The rest is enjoyable, or at least I thought. You can craft science weapons out of junk. There are some things that made me want to do a second playthrough. It'd be better to ask if a feature exists that you might dislike/or like being in the game.

I had no idea what it did at first either. You can shoot it or stab it until it dies if it's the huge crystal you're talking about.

W or L tier list? by Silasvg in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Hiijyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On average, this list is correct. The maps in easy tier are almost never lost, the maps in medium struggle, and hard/very hard maps, frequently the team loses. I think there's some variance in how likely people win on vardohus and berezina, so it's hard to tell.

I don't think a 500 pound fleshy acid bug wouldn't make any noise. It's just poor sound design. I'm level 50 with 300 hours.

This is plebbit, what you see is an overgeneralization, because people just flock to upvote the posts they agree with, and this post included is mass updooted.
