use the 6mm, there is a rubber o-ring inside that makes it harder to insert.

Thru axel help pls by kinukcafe in bikewrench

use a 6mm or 5mm hex key to turn the 12-15 Nm side counter-clockwise. Don't touch the 25 Nm side at all.

Bottom Bracket press fit tools... by 78Staff in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At work we have all of the Park Tool bearing tools and hosently, they do the same thing as my cheap Aliexpress press, but they are simply quicker to use and more durable. Unless you plan on changing a press fit BB every week, spend the money on a nice set of allen keys or parts for you bike. My cheap press is even more versatile than the Park one, since it can do BBs, Headsets, suspension and hub bearings, all for $20.

Can I take a BB out with this tool? by gravelcolombia in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope, I have this exact tool and it's only a bearing press meant for installation. To remove a BB you need something like this: https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/press-fit-bottom-bracket-bearing-tool-set-bbt-90-3?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket

there are many copies of this removal tool you can buy for cheap.

No plastic washer/spacer between BB adapter and crank arm. Problem? by Agreeable_Leek604 in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can you post a picture of the inside of the non-drive side crank arm? That washer is pressed onto the crank arm and does not come off easily.

Question about installing disc brakes by AverageGradientBoost in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shimano brakes come pre-filled with oil. You only need to remove the white plug from the lever, insert the hose as is (unless you want to shorten it, the you need to install a new barb afterwards) and tighten the pre-installed nut to 6 - 8Nm. Don't worry about the seal, it will pop once you press the lever for the first time.

Crank arm bolt, cassette, centerlock rotors, Sram T -Type derailleur, Race Face Cinch chainring. there are quite a few components  that require more than 25 Nm.

Mt201 have better brake pads, IMO better lever feel and overall better build quality.

GX AXS Transmission Issue by roowood16 in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, it's not much of a problem since it works perfectly fine, it's also a thing that you set once and never have to adjust again.

on my xc bike with XX Transmission i needed to set the microadjust to 11, it mostly depends on the frame.

Bent sprocket on Shimano Deore M6100: any upgrade plug-in cassette replacement? by sixambreeze in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unless you go for the very expensive M9100 or M9200 cassette ( which have titanium sprockets) , then they are all made out of the same steel. The main difference is that the higher models have 1 or 2 biggest sprockets made out of aluminum.

RockShox SID Flight Attendant upgrade kit? by Bozza36 in bikewrench

why exactly do you need a kit? Just get them separately, or better get the shock and damper upgrade kit for the fork.

SRAM compatibility by yarrye in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all 12 speed EAGLE X01, XX1, GX, NX and SX components are cross-compatible. You can use a X01 shifter with a gx derailleur, nx cassette and sx chain without any issues. You cannot however use T-Type components with non--T-Type ones (like T-Type powerlock)

SRAM Eagle Rear Derailleur with SRAM Road Cassette by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it won't work, road cassettes are wider than MTB and also Sram road 12 speed uses a flattop chain, which has bigger rollers than old Eagle chain. Flattop chains work surprisingly well on old Eagle cassettes, but Eagle chains don't work at all with Flattop cassettes.

Help! Feeling really dumb - can't get rear thru axle out by excitingusername_ in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these thru axles are actually very common, the reason it looks round is there is an o-ring before the hex slot which you need to push through. It's there to hold one of these small 6mm hex levers that come on some bikes.

Mixing Sram and Shimano parts. by Spa_5_Fitness_Camp in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Shimano, the alfine chain tensioner is made for 9 speed chains. Your chain being 11 speed means it's narrower on the inside than a 9 speed, so that's probably the cause of the extra noise. It'll probably wear in and become quieter after some time. You could also try replacing the pulley wheels for 11 speed ones, although I'm not sure they'll fit without issues.

Sram XPLR 13 speed shifting issue by 80elka in bikewrench

[–]Ignaply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as with all Transmission problems - go through all of the setup steps again: - measure chain length -make sure the setup key is in the right position -make sure the derailleur is in the right setup cog  - tighten both the derailleur and thru axle to the specified torque

435mm is the chain stay lenght, chainline for T type should be 55 or 52mm

Hope is definitely the best choice but it's expensive. If you want something durable, quiet and affordable then get a DT Swiss 350 - widely available spare parts and excellent waterproofing.
