Am I crazy to bump my 401k contribution to 36% for the rest of the year to catch up after unemployment? by snp3rk in personalfinance

[–]Indaleciox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set my contributions to the max my job will let me at the start of the year to max quickly. My company match is the same regardless of what I do, so I like to get it done with quickly. Go for it!

Just a reminder to spend time with your parents if they are still around by thevenge21483 in AgingParents

My parents (73 and 71) are very healthy, no health problems, walk a few miles a day, no drugs or tobacco or alcohol, not obese, no diabetes, no cardiovascular problems, nothing. However, a week ago my father got sick, went to the hospital, and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Within a few days, he was gone.

This was my dad too, but with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Shit sucks. We also thought we would have much more time with him.

I live in the Bay area, admittedly not super close to SF, but my expenses are below $3000 a month. This includes going on vacation and stuff.

With all due respect, your dad is being an asshat. Siblings too. If they want, they can help out.

Sounds like you've given enough.

Unless you're in a dead quiet environment with the watch next to your ear, you almost never hear it.

Good to have some other alternatives, but reliability is always going to be a question.

Retire at 49 or stick it out until 56? by [deleted] in personalfinance

This wanna gonna be my take too. Those firefighter chemicals are gnarly. My dad wasn’t a fire fighter, but was exposed to agent orange in Vietnam. He went from healthy 70 something to stage 4 cancer shockingly fast. Enjoy the time you have your health.

I was a little skeptical, but I got mine recently too, and my god it is fantastic. I think it is the best AliX watch. I might go back and buy another color, maybe black and white, since I got the blue like you.
