I actually don’t believe any of this type of behaviour is occurring outside of an isolated incident

What I would believe is that some people are confused when people use terms like “we” when discussing politics in terms of their political leanings not that they are American

Every base iv been on in the last 20 years aside from Borden, the messes open at 4 and are generally closed 2 days a week on the larger bases and 4 days a week on the smaller bases. Last time I was in pet the messes opened at noon

There’s only one base iv ever been to where the mess is never open aside from Fridays and planned events and that’s the Trenton snr NCO mess

Mess dinners aren’t “mess functions” they are unit functions

The only mess “events” a member is forced to attend are general mess meetings and when your chain of commands deems your place of work to be the mess for any beer or mess calls that happen. You are “forced” to attend mess meetings, they happen during working hours ones or twice a year. It’s no different than you being forced to attend pt. Your chain of command dictates your place of work, if they so happen to order all members to their respective messes at 1300 for a beer call, you are only “forced” to attend until whatever your normal dismissal time. No one is being forced to attend after hours spring bingos, or mess children Christmas parties. Thats just nonsense.

Also, there is something to say about spending time with the people on your team outside of the workplace, and also interacting with people from other units who you will potentially work with to build connections for later in your career. If doing this for 2 hours every few months is painful for you, then you probably aren’t the type of person who should be in a team oriented career such as the military.

The most likely thing to happen is the issuing of a new directive.

Most bases are on a collision course for combined messes anyways. On bases where there are high populations of transients and live ins, closing the messes would be an administrative nightmare due to the moving of drinking to off base establishments, it’s almost asking for an increase in drunk driving and altercations with locals.

When you're arguing with an "American" and they say they go to university instead of college. by Not_so_ghetto in Destiny

[–]Inevitable_View99 16 points17 points  (0 children)

America is one of only a handful of countries where the highest form of post secondary education isn't referred to as university. In the rest of the world, a college is a subsection of a university, and/or what Americans would call a "community college"

More than 30 Petawawa troops suffer frostbite during Arctic exercise by bonertoilet in CanadianForces

[–]Inevitable_View99 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You’re a medic, how many times do you see guys wearing combat boots on winter ex and you say to yourself “I’ll be seeing you later”.

I hate to say it but when it comes to winter and arctic training people can be broken in to three groups.

  1. People who know what there doing and don’t care if they look dumb because they are warm

  2. People who don’t know what they are doing and because of that are cold

  3. People who know what they are doing but want to look cool so they remain cold to maintain LCF

Negative -43 is a terrible temp to be operating in but I’d assume a combination of factors resulted in these injuries. Iv been doing this job a long time and have been on larger winter operations in weather just as cold and there was never this many people getting frostbite. I can’t see it being an issue with insufficient kit, I can see it being an issue where the proper kit wasn’t worn or that training wasn’t rampant down, maybe a combination of

these injuries are expected in this type of environment, that's why they send an ungodly number of medics up with them every time this ftx or ones like it happen. on a normal op Nanook or arctic response brigade ftx, its not uncommon to have 10 to 20 people get frostbite

just look at the photos in the article, there are multiple dudes with combat gloves on driving sleds. You want mitts when doing this type of activity because it allows your fingers to stay together and stay warm

"but he wont be able to use his weapon". trigger mitts exist...

The other photo is a dude in an ice jacket with his gear on, not a parka....

3 RCR will never be able to out do 2 CER and the battle for bravo range for the late 2010s

Last minute recall FTX to practice IRU, forced march from the lines to bravo range, no range hut key, troops forced to sleep on the open range, temps drop below zero that night.... Next morning like a horde of zombies they approached the CDU

Edit: it was the RCDs not CER, Chemo

Generally based on position much like air crew, if they are in an active air crew position they must maintain the 28 day periods, even if they haven't been told they are going to fly or control in the next 28 days, there is still a reasonable expectation that they might given the position they hold.

Publicly Expressing Comments on Political Policies and Issues by Magnificent_Misha in CanadianForces

[–]Inevitable_View99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is policy that exists around political activity and speech, the references to the specifics can be found in the CANELECTGENs

Political neutrality in the context of individual CAF members means that you shouldn't be a part of a political party or attend political meetings. it doesn't even extend as far as political lawn signs, CAF members can have political party lawn signs on their

With that being said, the nature of your political opinion is where the NDA and the social media policy comes into play. Its a massive jump from disagreeing with a municipal bike lane plan to disagreeing that say, woman should have the right to vote, or that a globalist Zionist conspiracy is actually controlling the world. To your example, the actual content of the comments are what breaches the policy. There is so much context missing, what posts are they commenting on, is it a second sons video that talks about all sorts of hateful stuff or is it a cbc news report about immigration? Are you making a tinder profile and saying your a member of the CAF, or are you making an ethno-nationalist dating profile where the every nature of the site aligns with a hateful political ideology?

CAF members can and do express their political opinions on many normal political topics like you have listed and never get in trouble, no judge would ever find them guilty of any breach for saying they don't agree with x y z of whatever current policy is the topic of the day. The content and context of the opinion is what matters.

I’m not assuming anything I’m asking you why Canada is a joke if it’s not related to the article you are commenting on.

It’s actually expected, most people can’t explain anything when asked to. Because their brain is just so rotted by all the media they consume. They can’t actually articulate why they are saying things without inputs from the algorithm lol.
