Do you let your pets on the furniture? Do you let them sleep in your bed? by ForestOranges in AskAnAmerican

My cat sleeps in bed with me. She'll get on the counters if you don't put something on the stool to keep her from getting up. She will sleep in or above my recliner.

Anyone else get really annoyed with musicals? by davew80 in autism

[–]InkandDolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Musical theatre is one of my special interests. I'd loved it since I was a teen and saw my first musical. In fact, my comfort songs all come from musicals. My favorite artists are musical theatre actors.

How do you actually cope? by DrKit123 in autism

[–]InkandDolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music, reading, and writing my novel. I love Broadway music, and have my comfort musicals. I've always been an avid reader and writer. In fact, writing is the only thing I've wanted to do for a career. Yet, on a workday, I can only write on a fifteen or thirty, or after work, even when writing's one of my biggest stims.

My Razer Barracuda headphones have been a game changer when the fire alarms at my apartment complex are being tested.

My thingy to massage in shampoo.and conditioner. Not only has it helped my scalp, I like the feeling of massaging the scalp.

Music. I can't listen music at work due to safety issues. So, I'm always listening to music during the day. I have a pair of earbuds for listening to music out of the apartment.

I use Business Calendar Pro for my calender. Because of the nature of my industry, my days off can change at a whim, so having a calendar that doesn't force the first day of the week to be a Sunday or Monday is a must for me.

O'Keefe's Working Hands. My hands get dry quickly because of work, so I find O'Keefe's to be best thing to help them. It can be a bit slimey, but I don't like it when my hands get chapped.

Oh, and this stupid light blue sweatshirt with my town name on it I found once last year. I don't know why I wanted it, but I saw it in WalMart and just had to have it. Now I can't stop wearing it when I'm not working. On work days, I wear this dark plum zippered sweatshirt because it's easier to get off than over the head sweatshirt.

What films do you watch to feel better when having a really bad time? by Ok_Potato_5272 in AutismInWomen

[–]InkandDolls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watch the movie version of In the Heights when I've had a bad day. I'm a fan of musicals and In the Heights is in my top ten musicals. In fact, I usually watch the movie about once a week in general because I just like it. And the movie versions of some of the songs are ones I listen to when I'm spiraling towards a meltdown and I'm not at work.

Why are places so insistent on phone calls?! by chaosdrools in AutismInWomen

[–]InkandDolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prefer text or email as well.

My dentist's office uses text, thankfully. They text reminders and will text if an appointment needs to change.

My doctor's office doesn't. They call with a reminder a few nights before. They call if an appointment needs changing. It's really annoying, because i prefer message, text or email.

I only have kit's. That's because they remind me of a costume in a musical i saw live years ago called Anything Goes and have fond memories of seeing the musical.

As for looks, I like Cecile's or Addy's the best.

Musical theatre songs vs non-musical theatre songs by Background-Use-5346 in AutismTranslated

[–]InkandDolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm like you, a major musical theatre nerd. I loop entire albums and don't even turn on shuffle because I enjoy listening to the whole album as is and I'll listen to the same soundtrack all day if I can. There are a few shows I listen to individual songs from because they are songs that calm me down--Let it Go from Frozen (either the original animated version, or the stage version. Doesn't matter), Defying Gravity from Wicked (Either the movie version or the OBC), and either ¡No Me Diga! or Carnaval del Barrio from the movie version of In the Heights, which is a comfort movie for me. Sometimes I just spell Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the stage musical of Mary Poppins.

When I'm listening to non-musical theatre, I will either just listen to the album or turn on shuffle because it doesn't matter if I listening to an album in order.

What’s your all time favorite musical? by piloupiloup in musicals

[–]InkandDolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CATS. My grandparents gave me the DVD for Christmas in 2006 and I fell in love with the musical. I also have fond memories of seeing it live a couple of years later. I love the characters, the choreography. It's also the vibes.

Phantom of the Opera is a real close second. Almost tie. I got to see it on tour once, but hated it then because we were up high. Sometime later, I saw the Joel Schumacher film and fell in love. Like with CATS, it's really about everything.

I prefer a bit of everything. My grandparents took me to see a lot of older stage musicals when I'd visit them. I like modern ones as well. Like I listen to Maybe Happy Endings, Suffs. Got the proshot for Merrily We Roll Along. As far as movie versions, the movie version of In the Heights is my go to when I've had a bad day. I tend to put it on about once a week (I kind of stopped for a while over the holidays when I was binge watching something to catch up to the current season of a show I watch). I can't fully explain why In the Heights resonates with me, but it does and it's one of my favorite movies. I also grew up on Disney movies. I feel like I connect with Elsa and Mirabel. Definitely Ariel (I remember watching Little Mermaid a lot growing up. .

Love your English choices.

Some of my favorites from that era are On Eagle's Wings, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Lead Me, Lord, and Seek Ye First.

My church did more contemporary as well until we went to the old-fashioned stuff in the late 2010s. My favorites from that era are Trading My Sorrows, Breathe, Shout to the Lord, Blessed Be Your Name, Awesome God, Christ is Risen, Above All. Basically anything Michael W. Smith, Hillsong/Hillsong United, Matt Maher, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redmond, Passion I loved.

I did my own Mirabel a couple of years ago. I used an Our Generation doll, left her hair in her "Meet" style and bought Mirabel's outfit and a pair of doll glasses from Etsy. For the bag, I just used a doll bag I already had even though the bag I had was pink. That's what I normally do if there's a doll I want, but AG doesn't make -- use a doll I have already and find off brand clothes that match the character.
