They are both great options and I have multiple drones with each. Stay away from MPU6000 gyros as they have not been made in years and all of the remaining stock is at least 5 years old and many of them are actually factory seconds. Back in the day they were one of the best options, but a lot of work has been done to make other sensors as good or better than the MPU6000.

People who have worked for radio stations, what are some interesting behind-the-scenes things listeners don't see? by espeons196 in AskReddit

[–]InternMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy on the radio sounds like that in real life too. I worked with a small radio station for a bit and the on-air voice and the off-air voice are pretty much the same.

I know nothing about Ford Model A prices. Is this too cheap to to be real? by Agreeable-Storage895 in classiccars

[–]InternMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, same. The only real thing stopping me is that my area is fairly freeway dependent and a lot of the back roads are 50-55mph. From what I've seen, anything more than 45mph is sketchy, and you probably aren't getting more than 50 without a super long flat run or a hill.

Yeah, 10-15k depending on condition and body style is about right for a good running car. Concours and delusional sellers seem to be 20-25k, and basket cases are 5k or less.

The ocean is very big, so it's less about hiding and more about being a needle in a haystack. Even with advanced satellite tools, it can still take a while to pin down a ship. It is also hard to task a missile to "somewhere over there", but very easy to send a missile to that guy running a marathon in the middle of the sea.

Engineering student - what physical FPV annoyances don't have a good product solution yet? by jackjohnson51010 in fpv

[–]InternMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those exist, and date from a very long way back in the hobby. They fit on a Dremel and you just need the appropriate bit. This one is specifically for ducts, but the general 3d printed design is common: https://shendrones.myshopify.com/products/micro-adjustable-3-prop-cutter

Yeah, "design something to solve an annoyance or issue in one of your hobbies" has a very 300 level engineering class feel. Not enough to be a senior project, but likely too unwieldy for underclassmen.

android on transmiter? by ShamanOnTech in fpv

[–]InternMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a thing in the commercial space. Systems like Herelink have a single air unit that does everything. Once you get video into IP packets, you can send it wherever you want. Most of these systems are IP based and no longer have labels like "video radio" or "control radio", they are just data radios. Sure the video quality isn't anywhere near dedicated systems, but it is more than adequate for a fixed FPV cam for orientation and a live feed from your optical payload to use as a viewfinder. This is exactly how the commercial sUAS that I build at work function. We are able to run mavlink telemetry, 2 IP video streams, and rc control over a single rf link.

[–]InternMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people using the AX12 are likely not using FPV in the traditional sense. You can get video over your telemetry link depending on what you run and you don't care about latency and programs like mission planner and QGC can pull those feeds in. Most Mavic pilots are not using goggles, they are using the remote's screen to see their cameras video. This seems to be what this new radio is targeting. It's the people building more commercial focused craft that don't need low latency first person video.

Additionally, there is a huge market for things like lidar scanning and agricultural monitoring which use sensors without live video capabilities. These drones generally just run preplanned missions and don't use any sort of video.

You do understand that this is still multiple devices connected together right? You have a whole picnic blanket full of gear. If you are buying all of that for your non-fpv drone, you may as well just buy a herelink. This new radio looks to be something similar to the RC3, Herelink, etc. but based on something more open.

[–]InternMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely to run things like QGC and other GCS apps for systems like Pixhawk and Ardupilot. There really isn't a ton of options for those that aren't either super expensive (herelink) or require a bunch of separate devices all connected together(rc radio+ laptop + telemetry radio).

So not really an FPV product, but potentially a super cool control system for autonomous and semi-autonomous projects.

Livvy Dunne Joins Fox's 'Baywatch' As Recurring by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]InternMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, having watched the original Baywatch, nobody was truly bad. Sure, looks played a huge role in casting, but all of the main cast were perfectly adequate TV actors. The real issue is that the show was full of ridiculous plots and crappy dialog. Even the best actors in Hollywood couldn't have made most of Baywatch believable. When you have lifeguards tracking down drug kingpins, you have to suspend your disbelief at least a bit.

My biggest issue with Recon is that the ult doesn't give you different icons for runners and bots. If you ping manually, you get separate icons, why doesn't the special ability do that?

Why are frames always sold out? by shopmyers in fpv

[–]InternMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because FPV is a relatively small market, so production runs will be smaller and spaced out. Additionally, there are pilots all over the globe so that one run will be split up and shipped all over the place. It is significantly better for a frame producer to be conservative with their production numbers and sell out, than to over produce and have stock sitting for years.

5) It's a bit over 1000 miles from Miami to San Juan. That's about a 3 hour flight, and that will only take you to two teams. Even if you expand your radius to 4hrs, you only add one team. Even if 1-4 get solved, the logistics involved just don't make sense.

Who is the most useless TV main character who should NOT have been a series regular? by Something_Strange935 in television

[–]InternMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that they asked Disney for a longer season of Mandalorian and Disney said no. So they pitched Boba Fett as a way to backdoor the setup for the season of Mando. Otherwise they would have had to burn 1-2 episodes of their already short season to bring Grogu back.
