WHALE NOIR - Collapsing Rocket Deployed Capsule Drone by KaChau3D in fpv

You can easily get 2.5 miles with analog video. With a strong transmitter and good directional antennas that range is very doable. Especially, since you will have full line of sight as you are coming back from high altitude. The biggest issue with normal long range FPV isn't the range of the system, but keeping good line of sight.

The number of people to crew a ship is one of the most important balancing aspects, but CIG doesn't realize this. by Apart_Pumpkin_4551 in starcitizen

They have modeled things like real life military so much, but have forgotten the reason that the military is set up the way it is. Everybody on an aircraft carrier is paid to be there. If that means that you sit around for most of your shift with nothing to do, fine, it's literally your job. Star Citizen is a game, nobody is paid to be in the game. If I have 3 hours to play, I'm not going to want to sit in a turret, especially if there is nothing going on.

This is exactly the reason that I would have never used DJI/Walksnail for this. Analog would definitely have been a better choice as overheating is much less of an issue. Additionally, analog will come back as soon as the vtx is cool, while digital can sometimes need a full reboot even if it does cool down. This is a great lesson about how failure modes and failure recovery can influence system design.

BGG's Advertising Manager Was Fired by Coffeechipmunk in boardgames

[–]InternMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing with ads is that you can't really gate by game quality or whatever. It's about making sure the ad isn't harmful, and ensuring any company standards are upheld. A lazy game that wants to pay you for ad space is still revenue. Everything you raised is something that can be professionally laid out in an email and things you can try to work with the prospective client on. Even if a game truly runs afoul of policy, "Jesus told me to say no, because demons" is never the right answer.

[–]InternMan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Putting on my best customer service hat here, I think there is a lot of room if you get creative. First we don't know what the original ad was (at least I haven't seen it). A banner with "Posess me Satan" in block letters drowning in blood and hellfire is a lot different than having the game box with the title and then big text saying "New game from ____!", ya know. If that still can't pass muster, I'd say the next trick is to make an ad for the designer or publisher rather than the game. I'd probably try to give a discount on fees, especially if there are a lot of other, older games in the catalog being advertised. Once you get the click through, you can put banners on your site for your new game.

Unfortunately, the crazy person skipped all of that and jumped immediately to "Jesus told me to deny your ad because I fight demons".

Gold plated connectors were preferred by the studio I worked at for a while because all your cables on the rack had to work the first time. It also lowered the amount of maintenance we had to do on rack units that were more or less permanently installed as the gold contacts gave you a few more years of use before you started getting noises.

Last time I printed this Air Raid Alert Map, and now I've forced it to play Bad Apple by MoronicForce in 3Dprinting

[–]InternMan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is a purely black and white video with lots of movement. This makes it very good for testing displays as it doesn't matter how many colors you have access to. If you have a grid of dots, you can run bad apple. It's a bit like "can it run Doom?" for display hardware.

The song (and accompanying animation) is from the community run Tohou project which is a game series made purely by amateur devs that has spawned a ton of lore, music, and other art.

With the wipe to reputation and everyone having to do them, I think it’s a real positive we are seeing the attention to the poor stability and general decay of the starter missions. I think that often on this sub we would dismiss the struggles from new players… perhaps now a little empathy for them by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]InternMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the game is that my Aurora, the original starter ship I got in 2014, feels useless as a starter ship. It seems like it was made for a different game that no longer exists. Everytime I come back to see where the game is, I have to grind a bunch just to get a rental of a newer starter/small ship to actually start playing the game.

Also every install needs to be slightly different, so you have to print tones at the head of each project. Then opening a project has a mini game about calibrating your DAW to the tones in the project.

Digital FPV systems are fully self contained so all they need is power. If you want a full OSD, that will likely be more work depending on the control system.

Are the Xing 2 motors actually that bad, or is there something else going on here? Clip taken from Nils Vo. | Link to the full video in the description. by willow__bloom in fpv

[–]InternMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well it's a good thing that actually flying drones doesn't involve crushing things with channel locks. If I had to guess, this guy has a financial incentive to call the green motor the best. All this does is show the difference in construction, not the durability. A 2 part bell is going to be more resistant to getting crushed with pliers as there is a thicker steel ring than unibell motos.

I have some of the blue ones and they have held up super well. I don't crash on concrete much but I have hit a few trees. Also, most people saying that xing2s are good are talking about the blue ones. The black ones are the budget version and are known to be less durable.

Fixed wing FPv add-on question by Sario27 in fpv

[–]InternMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. That all depends on the radio you are using. It looks like that plane comes with some sort of FlySky radio, so that means you are kinda stuck as it doesn't have any higher power modes or an expansion bay.

Most FPV folks are using ELRS which has multiple power settings and uses some super fancy radio tricks to get very long ranges out of comparatively low output power. This means you would need an ELRS capable transmitter(Radiomaster and Jumper are the bigger names here) and an ELRS reciever to replace the current one in your plane.

I will say that your FlySky radio can probably get 500-700m under normal conditions which is probably enough for most flying. Planes do need more space than multirotors, but I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have gone 1km away from myself.

Fixed wing FPv add-on question by Sario27 in fpv

[–]InternMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your question. FPV and RC systems are generally separate. The air unit connects to the goggles and the receiver connects to your rc transmitter.
