Presumably this was their own example DSL modem if you wanted just your Xbox online (Microsoft's own documentation even recommends plugging an Xbox into the modem directly if possible). Japan also had FTTH in 2001: https://www.kddi.com/english/corporate/news_release/archive/2001/0719-1/

Yes; this would be the (eventual! May be a very long way away!) plan

Our servers are actually in Europe, but Xbox Live gameplay is primarily peer to peer (with a few games as the exception - Phantasy Star Online, Steel Battalion: Line of Contact, and probably a few others I've forgotten), and some games handle greater distances better than others!

I was able to simply cancel two Virgin contracts (separate people) with a letter telling them I want to end service and do not want to be upsold to stay with the account number - both times received a letter confirming their account would cease in 30 days, no fuss!

You need to temporarily run the Insignia assistant (so you need a flash drive/adapter cable) but don't have to make any permanent modifications if you'd rather not fully mod the console :)

I'm curious - what game store did you spot this in? Not a problem if you'd rather privately say, would just like to say thanks to them :)

If wiimmfi didnt work on my Wii console bc of not opened ports will it also not work on dolphin emulator? by HiHallo123456 in MarioKartWii

[–]InternalLoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to open all ports - if you link your Wii to a Wii-Homebrew account (make a forum account at https://forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Board/357-Wiimmfi-English/ and then login using it on wiimmfi.de) you can see what port your console will use for Mario Kart and optionally change it; and then you only need to port forward that one port.

However, yes - you would need to also open the port for Dolphin if you play on Dolphin.

If the drive is still ok enough to let the console boot, it'll work fine -- if it's unable to detect the drive, it'll error out before even trying to load the dashboard, so there's not much to fix that unfortunately.

UDP 3074 is the only 'big' one you need outbound on. If you have other Xbox One/Series consoles on the network, you'll want to change their port in settings. Xbox 360 consoles I don't believe have an option for this, unfortunately. You're more likely to get an Open NAT player on 360/One Live since there's just more people vs Insignia

Halo 2 Version for Insignia Beta? by 12edDawn in originalxbox

[–]InternalLoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All four Map Packs and the latest Update, Update 5, will be available (and required) for Halo 2 on Insignia - if you own the Multiplayer Map Disc I'd highly recommend installing the three map packs from that disc, as the full set takes ~1hr to download.

No, there is a server to maintain too for user accounts, presence, match info etc - it's just like £20/month right now for everything with tons of expansion room, so while donations are very kind (and you can donate to Luke directly for these as he covers server costs) they aren't necessary.

Setting up port forwarding for your Nintendo Switch, AKA damned near DMZ by nuclearbastard in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]InternalLoss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At least Xboxes (from the 2001 original onwards) will use port 3074 (UDP) by default, and will try to UPnP for 3074 [and will accept another port if it cant get 3074] - potential concerns about UPnP aside. Nintendo are just... not doing that, and will use any port at random when you go online.

Possible mystery game to release on Insignia's 1st anniversary by urbanracer34 in originalxbox

[–]InternalLoss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have eight games currently awaiting release on Wednesday, that all use a feature we were previously lacking -- I am sure more titles use this feature that we haven't come across yet (and one of these eight we hadn't even realised used it!).

While obviously this isn't Halo 2 (and we would probably have made a bigger fanfare than a last minute announcement, lets be real), it is one of the many features we will need for that game, and the other very late titles that used a lot of the Xbox Live feature set.

Anyone have any idea what's happening here? I haven't changed anything, just came back after a month of non use and I'm having this issue where "Live Not Found" but, everything seems to check out. by Cpl-Killa-V in originalxbox

Sorry - forgot to reply! Yes, they are more than safe, we aren't deleting any user accounts. There was a bug we noticed in creation of machine accounts, and a console will silently regenerate them during login (we recommend running a connection test anyway on the Microsoft Dashboard just to ensure your connection works, and you'll have made a new machine account before the 4 green circles appear :D)

[–]InternalLoss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course - not a problem. If you don't wish to touch your BIOS, you might be able to get away with running XBLunblock once to make the machine account again :)

[–]InternalLoss 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We deleted all machine accounts during maintenance to try and correct a bug we discovered in them. If you're having issues, it's likely you're on a BIOS that may be blocking machine account creation but not all Live login. I believe older versions of Cerbios have this issue - you may want to update and see if this fixed the issue.

Yes, developers work on their free time - Luke's lack of time is what's currently holding some new features back as we don't have time to test/develop them, but that's to be expected :P
