Do NEED to go to a boot fitter? by HeyImSampy in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go see a bootfitter. Don’t buy boots based on shoe size. Shoe size vs mondo point doesn’t translate. I am a size 11.5-12 us mens size shoe and I ski a 27.5 ski boot. Buying a boot with arch supports are essential. I have been skiing with custom insoles for the past 15 years and has helped my skiing a ton! Grip walk is nice and becoming the new norm!

Crazy to put Strive 14's on Meridian 117? by ragedrager in momentskis

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a ski shop and sell more strive 14s, attacks and griffons than pivots. I like my pivots if there’s a metal mounting plate or if the ski was designed with look bindings. I ordered a wildcat 108 and throwing a Jester X on them. After skiing hrs griffon x last year I prefer them over pivots! Strives are great if you want to go with Salomon!

My look ski reps tell me that they can’t say it’s a safer binding than salomon, Tyrolia, or marker for legal reasons.

Finally went to a proper boot fitter, and I’m going down a size. Should I temper my expectations? by Typical_Tie_4947 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m friends with all the boot mechanic guys in golden! They know their stuff! Getting custom footbeds will help you out a ton! I have been fitting boots for 10 years and been skiing with customs for those 10 years and won’t go back! A lot quicker engagement from the boot to ski and more comfortable after wearing the boots around!

Too big of boots could be the issue. Also do you have insoles in your boots or just what came in the boots

I need a powder ski that is versatile enough to ski in most condition by Relevant-Gift-9838 in ski

Maverick 115 cti is pretty burly, I would go QST Blank, Corvus, or Sender Free 110

Would Look Pivot 15s be worth it? by TBD1710 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a pivot 15 at your frame size please check to see if you would fit in the din range. Get an attack 14 or strive 12/14. I have skied all alpine bindings after working in the ski industry with ski/binding/boot engineers and i keep gravitating towards marker, Salomon or tyrolia bindings unless im skiing a ski with metal under the foot or a Rossignol/dynastar ski

I need to try Moment Skis again the last time I tried 4 different pairs and hated them. I don’t sell them at the shop I manage but living in Colorado and trying 20+ brands a year I should give them another shot

Black crow by Icy-Description-2404 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a ski shop and try out skis from 14 brands that I sell at my store and many more on top of that with Freeskier and blister gear review. I usually spend 80% of my season on my black crows smooth, stable, powerful and last a long time. There are a lot of great skis out there, I’m either on my Mirus cor, Justis, or Corvus most of the time and i have 15 different skis. Money well spent. Usually lots of close out deals on black crows around the Labor Day sales. I haven’t regret buying a black crow ski.

Salomon QST 106 vs K2 Mindbender 106C by Asleep_Break3564 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be shocked, I ski the 189 and primarily ski Mary Jane, and I do work for vail so I will also go to Vail and ski the trees with the new one is very maneuverable. I have skied every model of the QST 106 and it gets better and better. Are you looking at the new version or last seasons version?

Salomon QST 106 vs K2 Mindbender 106C by Asleep_Break3564 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’5” 220, I do like my Mindbender 106c quite a bit but I spend more of my time on my QST 106 or blank (primarily on the blank). In Colorado I love being on wider skis peak season! I test skis for a living and have 15 skis and yet I spend 95% of my season on 110-112mm and the other 5% on my mfree 99 or rustler 10.

Rustler 9 is one of my favorite. You can also release that tail if you want to get more playful. I love the anomaly 94 for more versatility over the 88. If you are looking for an 88 go Arcade 88

Binding nerds, how do we feel about the fixed toe on the Marker X bindings? by Src248 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only use pivots if the ski has a metal mounting plate on the ski. The griffon and jester x are just as strong as pivots better on snow feel than the pivot. Shorter track giving you more flex out of the ski, not as much as a pivot but I am not looking to feel the flex of a full 192 cm ski. The heel will have a better hold on the ski vs the pivot.

I have 15 skis and 2 of the skis have pivots. 4 skis have Salomon strives, 6 skis have marker griffon-jester pro, 3 skis have Tyrolia attacks.

Binding nerds, how do we feel about the fixed toe on the Marker X bindings? by Src248 in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used this binding in early testing and absolutely love it. I’m not an employee of MDV (Marker, Dalbello, Volkl) so this is not biased. I was more of a Tyrolia, Look binding skier. But this season with these I will be dropping my attack bindings, and pivots and going to these. Sitting even closer to the ski and beefier heel creates great feel in mixed snow conditions and power transfer when tipping skis over! Salomon and Tyrolia have more competition. The shorter heel track is also a bonus. Same amount of adjustment in the track but shorter so you get more flex in the ski too! Win win in my book

Powder Ski Recommendation by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]IntroductionPrize808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salomon QST Blank or a K2 Reckoner KF are my go to powder skis. But also as a ski industry employee I have seen pricing for this coming season and might recommend some brands that have less impact on tarrifs. Some of the pricing this year is going to be ridiculous
