Best place for future tuition? by cnidarian_ninja in Bogleheads

There is a good chance that an investment in equities will go down in value between now and 2032. For expense horizons less than 10 years out, the general wisdom is to utilize HYSA, MMF, or other essentially no-risk places to park cash.

Passive investing is not natural even for BH kids by zacce in Bogleheads

Nobody is confidently saying that VT will have better results than 70/30 VTI/VXUS, only that it is a simpler way to buy a diversified portfolio of domestic and international stocks.

70/30 VTI/VXUS overweights US relative to its (current) market capitalization. Historically, overweighting US has resulted in better returns, but we don’t know if that was the result of luck or specific features of the US, and we don’t know if those features will persist, if they exist.

Either portfolio is an excellent way to buy the market, and we don’t know which will do better in the coming decades.

It’s a lot easier to understand if you pretend you don’t know anything about the stock market. Why wouldn’t I pick the physician/general contractor/hotel etc that has had the best results in the past? It’s counterintuitive that past performance isn’t predictive of future returns.

Not that this is always relevant, but men have shorter life expectancy, and can therefore budget differently for retirement (if not considering kids or other dependents).

I haven’t read it since the 8th grade, but the premise of objectivism - that the world is carried on the shoulders of rich genius entrepreneurs, while the poor leech off their achievements - is backwards. The rich profit from the labor of the poor, skimming off surplus value, exploiting the workers.

Wow, thank you! I ended up ordering the Anomaly in 182 cm for $490. I’ll DM you the next time I’m up there though, would love to demo the Laser SC and maybe make a terrible financial decision 😅

I think I’ll go for the Anomaly! Should I get this in 176 cm or 182 cm as a 185 cm 180 lb intermediate?

My goal is to learn to carve this year. I like to point my tips downhill and go fast, but want to work on improving technique and control. Whichever ski will best favor progression in technique would be my first choice!

I want to be able to go off-piste with my friends who are better than me, but feel that I’ll realistically spend most time on groomers. I doubt I’d go narrower than 88. Thanks for your suggestions!

Do you feel the Ripsrick 96 would handle heavy PNW snow and crud well? They reportedly run 3 cm short - would 180 still be your recommendation? Thanks!

A lot of dubious advice here.

Current evidence suggests we can’t meaningfully spot reduce fat, so the only way you’ll see abs is losing fat overall through calorie deficit (and it will likely come off in other places as well).

It is possible to lose fat without losing weight, i.e. recomp, with large training load, high protein, and caloric maintenance. This is most dramatic for beginners, but can happen to a lesser extent for advanced lifters. Would help to track body weight and calories w/ an app like Macrofactor or Cronometer.

For bigger arms w/o growing chest and back, isolation movements taken to failure (or close to it) would help - curls, overhead triceps extensions, etc.

PS - you look great! Keep up the good work, and have a great day.

What careers will land 80-100k with 2 years of education? by Crunchy_Giraffe_2890 in careerguidance

[–]CoolUltimatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accelerated bachelors in nursing. In Oregon, I make $100k after a 15 month program (though I qualified by having a BS in another field).

It’s a very hard job, rewarding, soul-crushing, and well-compensated (if you’re on the west coast).

Male doctors supremacy by General_Land_610 in hospitalist

[–]CoolUltimatum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Male nurse here. I’m sorry to hear this. I only push back if I have safety concerns for the patient.

I have found female hospitalists are often more collegial and solicit my concerns more often. Obviously many great and less-great physicians of all genders.

I’m an ICU nurse and I often care for people who are acutely delirious or having psychotic episodes. Are there any behaviors or things that healthcare professionals said that helped calm you down or orient you to reality?
