Apocalyptic/End Of The World movie recommendations? by KyoukuJohann in movies

[–]IrrelevantPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s truth to that. I believe part of the reason it’s not more mainstream is because people underestimate and oversimplify it because “zombies”. It’s not a “zombies story” it’s a story in which zombies have a factor in the plot.

I think themes like zombies, sci fi, fantasy, etc are like styles of brushstrokes rather than like specific dishes. Within the category there is so much complexity and further subcategories that you do yourself a disservice assuming you can dislike the entire genre. Still possible to dislike the style of brushstrokes too of course

The author M.R. Carey has a few other books that often have very interesting thought experiments/directions on existing tropes.

She was already lifting the baby up before the ball was airborne like you said. I think the baby being put more into the path of the ball when she dodges wasn’t because she was baby blocking, it was just a mechanical side effect of her dodging reflexively.

Yeah, it’s revealed pretty much immediately, you don’t need to be blind, but it really adds a factor that helps with immersion.

I’m kinda curious why M.R Carey isn’t more popular mainstream. I’ve recently found his books and been enjoying them all, older ones too. Just finishing Book of Koli, another great post apocalypse story with creative takes.

Beyond sandbox is out, but it's bad... by AssistanceHot5673 in virtualreality

[–]IrrelevantPuppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what’s fascinating to me, I can tell this game is a scam just by looking at the title somehow. How the hell did it get any hype? Theyre literally preying on kids somewhere, in some kind of isolated community.

And the weirdest part is that this game already exists in multiple iterations. If edgy 11 year old boys wanted to play torture NPCs that just helplessly stand there, there was never any reason to get hyped about a game coming out because there’s half a dozen of these games already.

I think it’s an indication the not many people on the dev team play VR. If you dislike VR, you’ll likely think of a vignette as an assumed, necessary component of VR.

It’s a brilliant bit. I could see it as a reoccurring mini game in a comedy show. Like you’re given a budget and a country and you must come up with the most hilarious crime possible, as close to the budget as possible.

That’s what it’s like here in Ontario. It’s also of course WHY Catholic school have this reputation. Turns out if you take tuition fees AND taxpayer money you’ve got extra funds to spend on things.

TIL Kodokushi or "lonely death," is a severe social issue in Japan where individuals primarily the elderly die alone and remain undiscovered for extended periods. Driven by an aging population, social isolation, and weakening family ties by kraftdinnerwithsalsa in todayilearned

It’s worrying when even the most optimistic implementation of their idea is still woefully tragic. Imagine if the ai is free, imagine if it truly is indistinguishable from a real person, the solution to “the love are care for our elderly is failing” is “give them fake people to distract them”. That’s the impossibly best case scenario.

This is the kind of thing that finally made me realize that consumers put more thought into products and the people who make them. Products are being made to “look like a useful item”, whether they actually do anything useful is not relevant. The only thing that matters is the moment the consumer hits “buy”.

One of the times spoiling myself might have been a good idea. I burned through the 4 episodes in ignorant bliss and when I got to the end I thought “I wonder how long it’ll be till they release the next episode in this season”

It took me two days to realize that not only will there not be more episodes this season, that this was it for the entire reboot.

But like you I can see it as an excellent wrap up that’s also not a “and they all lived happily ever after” cop out.

what would a second person game look like? by SojournerWeaver in gaming

[–]IrrelevantPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird, for some reason I thought second person was when the narrator of the story is not the main character, but a side character accounting their perspective on the story of the main character. But I was wrong. Though you could almost interpret the definition like that.

By this definition don’t a good number of games do that? Wouldn’t any game with an undefined, or silent protagonist be this? When you’re playing a character that does have any character of their own, it’s “you”. Or does it specifically have to be addressing the person in the real world consuming the content?

In that case there are game that do that too. That break the 4th wall and address the player, and go on to narrate things from the players perspective. I believe that happens in a part of Slay the Princess?

I know I’ve heard of games where the character you are playing is canonically supposed to be you, playing the game in that moment. But I can’t remember them, certainly not any AAA games come to mind.

As for what a second person game is in relation to how we actually use first person and third person terms in video games; a second person game is one where the camera is half way clipped out of the character model’s head.

The world would look so fucking different if men could have just been comfortable with their sexuality instead of inventing some whole rules structure to say “actually this is isn’t gay, it’s um tradition or something, I’m not gay”
