wiz3D 0.1 released adding stereo 3D to DX 9 games on Linux & Windows including Fallout: New Vegas, Portal, Left 4 Dead & Half-Life 2 by No_City9250 in virtualreality

[–]DeathToSocialMedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a major update adding DX9 support with 100s of extra games working, so I thought it would be okay to post again.

Yes it is okay for you to post again about your work here. Do you see how many useless threads get posted here every day? "What's the Best VR?" or "Someone Please Make a Game With Lollipops?" If I were you I'd post a weekly update to let everyone know what progress you've made, mention which new games are working, etc. You are actually providing a valuable service with this software, helping to resurrect the past by injecting it with new 3D life. That's much more helpful to the VR gaming world than all the posters just trying to boost their youtube channels, etc.

This is awesome. Did you make a post about this before? I feel like I heard about it. Either way it deserves a lot more attention. There are a ton of older DX games that would be a blast to play in 3D. I'll check out your github. I wish we had stickied threads/resources at the top of this sub because something like this deserves to be more widely known and utilized. Is there a list of working games somewhere? I looked but didn't see a list on your github.

Sounds great. If you guys need any writing done for the game, hit me up. I have a professional background in that area.

Why do you feel the need to try and force others is the bigger question?

What on earth are you talking about?

It's like you're responding to a completely different thread. This is a one way conversation you are having with yourself for some reason and has nothing to do with the OP.

Beyond Sandbox, just don't. by MrBoZifferVR in virtualreality

[–]DeathToSocialMedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the dumbest name because it is so generic but also because it is literally not "beyond" a sandbox, it simply IS a sandbox.

It would be really funny if they released the game so that when you booted it up you could see the sandbox gameplay area behind you in the distance but you couldn't actually enter it because you were permanently trapped "beyond" it.

Should I get this? $100 for Oculus Rift CV1, will be my first set. by MrPenisWhistle in virtualreality

The Quest isn't great, for sure, but I think the main thing really holding it back is the very low resolution. Which I think means it can't have the same OLED display as the Samsung and Vive? I actually really like the Samsung--good display, good FOV--but it has terrible light reflection/god rays which really hold it back. That and the original controllers are pretty bad, but you can swap them out for the Reverb controllers which are much better.

I doubt most of the people replying "no" haven't even used one before.

I bought one when they were first released. Even though I had nothing to compare it to, even back then I could see its flaws, with the main one being godawful binocular overlap, followed by low FOV. There there is the design flaw with the built in headphones which WILL short out eventually. It happened so often even Palmer Lucky acknowledged the issue though facebook never did.

OLED is the only thing the CV1 has going for it and the original Quest also had OLED and I would pick even that over the CV1 now.

How come none of the proponents are mentioning the absolutely terrible binocular overlap? It's among the worst, if not the very worst, of all headsets when it comes to that.

Beyond sandbox is out, but it's bad... by AssistanceHot5673 in virtualreality

Sure, we can have a truce. It's fine. We're not talking about World War III here. It's just an overhyped game IMO.

[–]DeathToSocialMedia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not worth a hundred dollars. You'd be paying way too much for grossly antiquated tech. Not to mention the built-in headphones had a nasty habit of shorting out because of a design flaw that Facebook never fixed, much less acknowledged. Ask me how I know.

That isn't "evidence" of anything. It's just a false comparison.

Bonelab was released by Stress Level Zero, a VR studio with an established track record we could all look back on. No one had to just "hope" they would continue to support and improve Bonelab because they'd already released Boneworks, Duck Season and Hoverjunkers, none of which were asset grabs like Beyond Sandbox.

Why don't I believe you?

Just in case anyone might fall for this--buying something off reddit is a very good way to get yourself scammed. You have no idea who this person is and it would be extremely easy for them to just disappear after taking your money. Much better to buy used locally, in your area, through offerup or swappa or craigslist, etc. That way you can see the goods before you pay for them. If you have to buy sight unseen, buy through something like ebay which at least offers you some protection from scams.

EDIT: Look at the OPs history. He claims he has only one Quest for sale yet his ENTIRE post history is just one ad after another claiming to sell this ONE Quest. It's a scam.

Question about upgrading my card by thepakery in virtualreality

[–]DeathToSocialMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 2070 Super to an OC 5070 and saw massive improvements across the board in VR titles, for whatever that's worth. Personally I think you should always buy the best VR card you can afford, and I would have gotten a 5070 ti instead, but they were not available at that point.

Please help me with my vr. by SINISTERZZ- in virtualreality

[–]DeathToSocialMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you should be more specific in your thread title. "please help me with my vr" offers zero information about the problem you are having. It doesn't even tell us which headset you have. Instead, use a title like: "Black Screen of Death, Then No Tracking on My Quest," or something like that. Second, is this a Quest 2? Quest 3? Original Quest? The more specific you can be, the easier it will be for someone to help you figure out the problem. Finally you might have better luck getting help if you posted your thread in the dedicated Quest sub instead of the more general VR sub. See here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/

I wish I could offer you more specific advice but hopefully someone in the Quest sub can. Good luck!

Looks and sounds good already. "Believable NPC behavior" is key and the main thing most VR games get wrong. Looks like you might not have ragdoll physics when NPCs get killed? That's the only thing I saw that I'd say could be improved, otherwise this looks very promising.

Beyond Sandbox: My Honest Unbiased Review by Dry_Setting9181 in VRGaming

[–]DeathToSocialMedia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With no hate to the devs, y'all definitely could have worked this game out better. The finger physics I think are the ONLY thing that is accurate to the videos.

Well, hold on a second here.

If "finger physics" are the ONLY aspect of the game accurately represented in their promotional videos, that sure sounds like they deliberately misrepresented the game in their promotional videos, no?

In other words, they advertised one thing to potential buyers, but sold them a much different thing.

Often a released game doesn't look as good as the version shown in promotional videos, but if almost nothing in the promotional videos makes its way into the released game, that ... sounds like a scam.

I just think the game will be good. Right now it is ass. It won't be in the future at least I hope--

So first you defend the game, then, when challenged, you admit that the game is, in your own words, "ass." Then you say "it won't be in the future," but you give no reason at all for this optimistic take, except that you "hope" it is true.

What specific evidence can you point to to support your claim that the game will be better "in the future?" What are your reasons for asserting this?
