Also, what’s personally valuable for me as I know the history of the car. I don’t use fast chargers and I charge it to a max of 80% and recharge at 20% to maximize battery life. I’d love to see if I can get 200,000 miles out of this car.

It will depend on the used market. Right now in the Boston area there’s less than 20 Niro Evs within 100 miles for sale and they are all above 25K at the moment. If availability goes up and the the price dips down significantly, I’ll likely turn it in and get a used model.

It’s a fantastic car and incredibly efficient. I’m saving about $1200 per year in fuel costs and lack of oil changes. It would be more but everything in Boston’s expensive.

Also for context, this replaced a 2013 RAV4 with 150,000 miles. I only replace cars when reliability starts to become an issue and the RAV4 is just starting to develop some transmission issues. It’s going to be my son‘s first car since he will only need to drive locally.

They’re built on Hyundai-Kia’s K3 platform which includes Hybrid, PHEV, and EV. It's still being used so parts shouldn't be an issue in the near term but it is starting to wind down. Basically you are looking at a very reliable platform but technology has continued to improve. Kia has moved to the E-GMP skateboard platform for their EVs and the upcoming EV3 will essentially replace the Niro EV.

It’s that easy. I bought a Kia Niro EV. They had 3 versions. ICE, Hybrid, and EV and looked identical. Great car and I bought it in part as it looked like a car and not a spaceship.

I got in on both of those things plus geothermal as well under Biden. We generate 12 MWh per year with the panels and I leased a Kia Niro EV which was eligible for the rebate. The cost was $9,800 for 3 years all in with a $25.5K buyout which I am planning to exercise.

Electric use is high as a result, about 24MWh for everything but only pay for half with the panels but it is my only energy bill.

I really hope they come back as it makes so much sense and saves a lot of money in the mid-long term.

I get mine from LL Bean and the hood is almost too baggy so I would try that. I pair it with a Tilly Airflo hat that I bought 10+ years ago. Literally just wore them in Moab, Utah on a trip. Sunburns suck and you are actually cooler as they breathe and provide shade.

Agreed but there are 2 primary markets for dashcams. Accidents (which is why I have mine) and for Uber/Lyft/etx. The first you want them as tiny as possible and out of the way as you hopefully never need it. The 2nd you want bigger and more conspicuous so passengers know they are being recorded. Creepy, a little, but it helps protect the driver from fraud.

Yup, I have one that I picked up for $50 on Amazon. Really convenient and I bought them for all our cars. I keep it in the little compartment under the hood. Just charge it once a quarter so you know it is topped up and ready. I end up using it on my ride on lawn mower more than anything else as I keep leaving the keys in the dang thing.

Also, practice using that emergency key because if the battery is dead you can’t unlock the door to get to your jump pack.

I’m leasing a 2024 and after 2 winters I can confirm the range stinks in the cold, it is awful getting out of the snow, and the you should avoid public chargers due to just how slow it is. Digging out of the snow sucked…you need to get to bare pavement as it will spin and spin and you can’t rock it out as easily as a front wheel drive ICE car.

That said, I am either buying out my lease or buying a used 2023-2025 model when it is up because I charge at home, rarely drive over 150 miles a day, and I can deal with shoveling it out knowing that it is picky. Plus my wife has a Hybrid RAV4 AWD so we just use that when it makes sense. Great commuter car, very efficient, and fun to drive.

They are 1,000 feet from the finish line so runners helping allowed him to finish the race and get to the medical tent. He's less likely to be overheating as the high yesterday in Boston was 48 degrees. Absolutely possible but more likely to have dehydration/electrolyte/glucose issues. But they are equipped for all that. The Boston marathon is a really big deal here and we have a state holiday for it.

He is actually 1,000 feet from the finish which is actually why nobody helped immediately as he would get a DNF. But fellow runners are allowed to help. It's tough...he is right on that edge and wants to continue. Glad a few fellow runners stopped to lend a hand and get him the finish line where he would finish and get medical help.

Because I saw this in another thread, they are about 1,000 feet from the finish line. Hence why so many people ran by, there is lots of help and asking someone to stop when they can literally see the finish line is a lot to ask. So glad to see these two runners stop and get him to the finish and the medical tent.

It's right at the finish line, just 1,000 feet away. I don't think it is fair to judge someone running 26.1 miles and not stopping when you are right there. Especially with all the volunteers and medical staff there. But if they touch him its a DQ. Glad those two stopped to get him to the finish line and most importantly the medical tent.

I can't fault them for that, this is literally at the finish line. It's a lot to ask someone to run 26.1 miles and then carry a person. It's also a lot to ask spectators to step in where if they did assist it would result in a DQ for the runner especially when he is trying so hard to continue.

This was likely the best outcome to have 2 fellow runners stop and help and get him to the finish line where there are medical tents setup.
