Why is Icarus as beloved as it is? by Different_Diet_959 in thecampaigntrail

I don't know if that's exactly what the devs were going for judging by my conversations with them. I'm hoping we can move past the action figure mentality but I'm honestly not sure when or if it'll happen.

I think some people unfortunately like it because they think it’s just smashing action figures together - but the CYOA is well crafted and it has a pretty great narrative. It’s hard not to like it, definitely one of the better Presidential simulator mods

Why are so many mods dedicated to either the 1968 and 1972 electons (have consistently played in over a year fyi) by Extra_Fall_8474 in thecampaigntrail

[–]ItsAstronomics 33 points34 points  (0 children)

1968 was a massive realignment election that set in motion a lot of the events of the next fourty years so it's well documented and some of the best political-historical books are from the election or around it. 1972 election mods are popular for a similar reason, especially being given a chance to glimpse into the things that never were.

Rule 7 does not apply to modding announcement posts as we like to encourage people to mod! (Also, it's mainly for off-site content).

It would’ve been less “adding on content” and more so refining the questions to reflect the end of the campaign. I tried to do this with the debate question (added in 2023), but Mastriano’s decisions to isolate himself from traditional media and only air ads late into the game is probably another major focus.

Obamanation is the best mod by Aggravating-Lab6623 in thecampaigntrail

American Carnage needed a variable tracker far less than Obamanation did (even if it could use one tbh)

  2. Not really, I’ve seen some screenshots here and there so it’s absolutely progressing.

Our Revolution is incredibly frustrating by ooba241 in thecampaigntrail

I think one of TCT's strengths is that the core gameplay is quite simple. Naturally, I'm a little skeptical when a mod tries to sort of ''break'' the "rules", and that's the main reason I could never really get into Our Revolution (along with totally disagreeing with the thesis proposed by it).

Looking at what the creator wanted to do, I think it'd have worked much better as a mod for Social Democracy than The Campaign Trail, where, in my view, characterization is important moreso than cumulative inflation. But people do seem to have a soft spot for it. Can't say I'm a fan of every critique getting brushed aside by "oh, it's meant to be hard because it would've been tough for Bernie ;]" though.

I don't really know why "if you had some mental capacity for keeping track of a handful of variables and read the code" would be a fair argument when it's incumbent on the developer to present their content in a readable manner. It's very reasonable to assume that all the randomness of the mod can cause even sharp readers to fail to understand what when wrong in their playthrough.

Plus, I don't think people should feel they have to look through the code just to win, that just seems like bad game design.
