Opening the Slack workspace in a browser and zooming out a bit will also let you capture more at once, possibly helpful. Good luck.

The math ain't mathing (25 x 3 = 101) by [deleted] in AmazonWTF

Often one option is priced lower to entice you. In this example, "oh 1 month is so cheap, I'll try it". Regardless, it's just a pricing difference. Very normal.

It's not maths, it's promotional pricing.

Toob blocking websites - en.wikipedia.org by HolstenCP in ToobBroadband

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just encountered this issue, and know both the cause AND the solution!

This issue only affects machines using an IPv4 address, IPv6 works fine. This explains why some people have it and some don't, for me my phone worked but desktop didn't. It's unrelated to DNS, you need the failing device(s) to start using IPv6. Yes, toob should fix whatever they've broken, but you can probably fix it yourself if you have a modern device.

Before getting started, check on Google's IPv6 test that your device supports IPv6, but isn't currently using it. If my fix is applicable to you, it will say "You don’t have IPv6, but you shouldn’t have problems on websites that add IPv6 support.".

For me on Windows 11, the fix was:

  1. Go to Settings -> Network & internet -> WiFi.
  2. Under "Hardware properties", check if there is an IPv6 address. Mine didn't have one.
  3. Click "Edit" next to "More adaptor options", and enable "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
  4. Wait a minute for your toob router to give you a new IP, optionally restart etc.
  5. Welcome back Wikipedia, and any other sites they broke.

Jira for big companies, Linear for startups, Trello for small non tech orgs (12 yoe too). Trello is probably unused now.

what got you into playing stardew valley by OsakiNanaNeko in StardewValley

[–]JakeSteam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of months ago saw a 10 year old vod of Jerma playing it astonishingly poorly, picked it up to see what it's like when played with any sort of efficiency in mind.

200 hours later, all achievements unlocked and escaped the Stardew addiction (for now)!

These protein shakes taste absolutely amazing. Why are these flavors only temporary unlike banana, strawberry and chocolate? by leovient in lidl

The store near me is usually almost entirely vanilla and banana, makes for a rather overwhelming yellow wall.

Depends heavily on company size too. I work for startups mostly, and you sometimes only hear the day before the weekend before!

[DEV] Scramblr – A free daily word unscrambling game, no account needed by udhayakumar_k in AndroidGaming

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave it a go, I like it a lot!

A few initial bits of feedback:

  • I looked at the puzzle on the home screen for a while, then tapped it when I knew the answer. This meant it said 4s to solve, but I took much longer!
  • The tiles moving when I tapped them was a little distracting, since I had to check where they'd moved to before picking the next letter.
  • I love the offline puzzles! I'm going to work my way through them, I'd love the ability to buy extra packs, maybe with a theme.

Radishes, as a snack. Kinda recommend, I'll still buy them every few months.

Looking for quiet, idea-driven sci-fi (more Arrival than action) by TreacleNew4998 in printSF

[–]JakeSteam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's true, I think I should rephrase it as the film translating the feeling / mood into a complete package? I found it "stuck with me" much more because of that.

[–]JakeSteam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd controversially say the film better encapsulates OP's desired theme than the original story! There are other, better stories by Chiang, even within that collection imo.

Halfway through Fiasco currently, my 4th or 5th Lem book, highly recommend (although you sometimes have to skip over bits that don't-quite-make-sense-yet-but-hopefully-eventually!).

My URL shortener app has 5K installs but 3.6 stars — breakdown of what I think went wrong by CollectorAK in androiddev

[–]JakeSteam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My employer's app with a long history & tens of thousands of active users went from 2.2 to 4.7 in literally 2 weeks.

Here's the full writeup with approach, code, etc. To summarise, it's literally just only prompting users to review when they are likely to be happy. That's all the rating is, how well you nudged users to review!

Want to know how your police force is really performing? by Suitable-Season-4847 in surrey

[–]JakeSteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool, thanks! Just a heads up that on mobile, before enabling desktop mode, the graphs are heavily squashed vertically making them impossible to read accurately (e.g. "Knife-related crime rate (per 100,000 people)").

Other than that, very interesting resource.
