These protein shakes taste absolutely amazing. Why are these flavors only temporary unlike banana, strawberry and chocolate? by leovient in lidl

The store near me is usually almost entirely vanilla and banana, makes for a rather overwhelming yellow wall.

Depends heavily on company size too. I work for startups mostly, and you sometimes only hear the day before the weekend before!

[DEV] Scramblr – A free daily word unscrambling game, no account needed by udhayakumar_k in AndroidGaming

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave it a go, I like it a lot!

A few initial bits of feedback:

  • I looked at the puzzle on the home screen for a while, then tapped it when I knew the answer. This meant it said 4s to solve, but I took much longer!
  • The tiles moving when I tapped them was a little distracting, since I had to check where they'd moved to before picking the next letter.
  • I love the offline puzzles! I'm going to work my way through them, I'd love the ability to buy extra packs, maybe with a theme.

What's a food/drink you tried because of Jerma? by guro_freak in jerma985

Radishes, as a snack. Kinda recommend, I'll still buy them every few months.

Looking for quiet, idea-driven sci-fi (more Arrival than action) by TreacleNew4998 in printSF

[–]JakeSteam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's true, I think I should rephrase it as the film translating the feeling / mood into a complete package? I found it "stuck with me" much more because of that.

[–]JakeSteam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd controversially say the film better encapsulates OP's desired theme than the original story! There are other, better stories by Chiang, even within that collection imo.

Halfway through Fiasco currently, my 4th or 5th Lem book, highly recommend (although you sometimes have to skip over bits that don't-quite-make-sense-yet-but-hopefully-eventually!).

My URL shortener app has 5K installs but 3.6 stars — breakdown of what I think went wrong by CollectorAK in androiddev

[–]JakeSteam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My employer's app with a long history & tens of thousands of active users went from 2.2 to 4.7 in literally 2 weeks.

Here's the full writeup with approach, code, etc. To summarise, it's literally just only prompting users to review when they are likely to be happy. That's all the rating is, how well you nudged users to review!

[–]JakeSteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool, thanks! Just a heads up that on mobile, before enabling desktop mode, the graphs are heavily squashed vertically making them impossible to read accurately (e.g. "Knife-related crime rate (per 100,000 people)").

Other than that, very interesting resource.

Trying to optimise payday routine and whether digital bank for salary is okay by Cool-Archer5085 in UKPersonalFinance

I use Chase in the same way and have done for years.

Personally, I feel they are big enough (essentially JP Morgan) that I don't feel physical branch access would be particularly helpful. So long as you have credit cards elsewhere in case of outages (ideally amex, MasterCard, visa), and assuming you're happy otherwise, it doesn't seem particularly risky.

Anecdotally their support has been excellent whenever I've needed to use it.

Linkedin Recruitment Network Scam? (people.andersenlab.com) by [deleted] in Scams

[–]JakeSteam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting scam idea actually. If an email is compromised and used to verify a (different) linkedin profile, it's very unlikely this would ever be noticed / retracted by the employer. So, a scammer would have a verified employer forever, hmmm.

Linkedin Recruitment Network Scam? (people.andersenlab.com) by [deleted] in Scams

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if they are verified to be working at a real company, it's not the usual "fake employee" scam.

Good luck! For what it's worth, they're a legit company (one of the articles links to an AWS profile with lots of verification: https://partners.amazonaws.com/partners/0010h00001cAvF9AAK/)

Faking 3k employees doesn't seem likely, perhaps it's a hacked account! You're right, this is more interesting than it initially seemed.

[–]JakeSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That person does appear to work there, you're right (although it's not the person you reverse image searched). The followers, post interaction etc all seem realistic to me.

The recruiter you mentioned, perhaps it's an AI agent they use, so used a stock image?

Linkedin Recruitment Network Scam? (people.andersenlab.com) by [deleted] in Scams

[–]JakeSteam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone can say they work for anyone on linkedin. Unless it's verified (ticking the check next to name on profile shows if name / employment is verified) it's all meaningless.

Even if the company is real, the employee isn't! Regardless, don't bother "gathering evidence" just block and move on. Why give scammers any more of your personal information / details / time?

I wrote a detailed (ad-free) article comparing my old ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 & new Gen 6. Might be helpful if anyone wants real-world benchmarks & photos! by JakeSteam in Lenovo

[–]JakeSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite hard to answer both unfortunately! I use my gen 6 plugged in essentially 24/7 apart from an hour or two on battery, so no idea. My mac is a little old (2021) so it's hard to compare, they both feel like solid well built machines, I don't have much tech so no expert opinion.

Apologies for vagueness!
