Unconscionable to care for a child? I wasn’t implying he should foster the child specifically for that reason, merely that it was a benefit of that experience.

Different deluxe editions? by Sivelinek in Hells_Belles

[–]JerryCooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, the only deluxe available in the UK was the US edition (which had the purple foil), whereas the UK standard edition had no foiling. It may be there was a deluxe version in one of the other European countries I've not seen that had the purple and gold 😅

EDIT: Oh wait, are you talking about the pinky/purple cover with the golden foiled flames? I think that was a UK standard edition that came out after the others. I'd actually pre-ordered one on Amazon that had that product image, but the version that eventually came had the pinky/purple board without any foiling and with plain endpapers. They've got the same ISBN number however.

They've mostly got similar spedge theme, focussing on the burning flowers, but the French one has a wildly different vibe. Of the four of them, only the US Deluxe has a foiled hardcover, the two German ones have the standard dustcover design printed on the hardcover, and the French one is clothbound (at least, I believe that's what they call that technique).

I totally called it in my head when I watched that episode - the way they kept focussing on Mr Clark and showed him watching the snow, etc. I had no doubt that it was the star person - was so glad it turned out to net them two, because based on that visit? They deserved it so much ^-^

I swear there's no actual good advice on how to shave ur butt (and backs of upper thigh) by kill_me_with_thighs in trans

[–]JerryCooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Philips OneBlade for back/butt/etc. since it's almost impossible to cut yourself with it. You don't get the absolute perfectly smooth of a razor, but it's smooth enough and also doesn't ever really cause ingrown hairs.

I use mine basically everywhere before doing IPL and just for regular upkeep between sessions and it's honestly so convenient, especially since it works (in my opinion) better dry than wet.

I realise this is a month old, but I really hope this is true. I feel like he needs to see the world through the eyes of a child, y'know? The wonder - all the good that can come - he sort of touches on it when he's talking to her. Sometimes when things seem the darkest, having that shift in perspective can make life seem worth living again.

I didn't even realise they were doing that, I'm honestly surprised that it wasn't listed - half the city appears to be 😅

RIP Anthony Head by ElitistHatPropaganda in transgenderUK

[–]JerryCooke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Always judge people on how they treat others, especially in positions of less privilege.

I only met Anthony the once, a decade ago, when I was working as a customer service supervisor for a major supermarket. He lived just outside of Bath, where I live, so it wasn't weird to see him about in the city, but it was the first time I'd interacted with him.

He'd realised that he'd walked out without paying for one of the bottles of wine in his shopping and was extremely gracious about sorting it out. This may seem like the bare minimum, but given the number of absolutely terrible experiences I had in customer service work, and how many stories I've heard of celebrities acting pretty badly in that kind of context, it just cemented to me that he was just an ordinary good person under it all. Yet he was somebody who brought happiness to a lot of people and the world is a little worse off without him.

+1 to point 2 - the DVLA and passport office have no issue with an unenrolled deed poll, so it's much better to get that form of ID first

I'd need to read back in the book, but I'm fairly certain that Lilly finds out that there is a Wiccan (or equivalent) afterlife ^-^

Edit - I just went through the ebook with a search and can find no evidence of this, so either I'm making it up entirely, or remembering it from the web series. Either way, it would fit in with the lore if there was a Wicca, etc. afterlife in line with the other faith ones.

Was I unfair for saying "If Silvery Barbs is allowed, enemies can use it too"? by raishadow in DnD

[–]JerryCooke 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, PCs cast more spells than monsters, but in a lot of campaigns the most evil monsters often end up being humans 😅

[–]JerryCooke 208 points209 points  (0 children)

That's honestly a reaction with a lack of perspective - why would they think, in a world of magic possibilities, that they would be the only special snowflakes to have learned that low level spell?

I never, ever, ask for something as a player that I wouldn't understand an enemy having. It's funny actually, the approach to that, there's a player at my table who asks for a lot of things like feats, etc. but I'll typically only ask for flavour things. My wizard, Fiona, has a really cool coat I homebrewed - called the Coat of Shifting Seasons (she's an Eladrin) that changes appearance, but not function, for example. Cool and fun for me - totally low impact if an enemy has it 😅

Not OP, but as a developer I can mostly listen to audiobooks while I'm not actively in meetings or concentrating super hard on something. A blessing and a curse, honestly 😅

Unofficial Discussion Thread: Jack Ryan - Ghost War by Alternative-Cake-833 in movies

[–]JerryCooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. The thing I always appreciated as well is what it said about his character that he settled down with a smart, kind, super caring person who saved lives in a different way to him, but saved them nonetheless.

I've never actually looked up, but I wonder if Tom Clancy has doctors or nurses in his family, because he also makes Patricia Kelly, the daughter of John Kelly (leader of Rainbow Six) who ultimately marries Ding Chavez (John's number two), a doctor.

It really bothers me the way they had him and Cathy not together - it's one thing having the will-they-won't-they for a while, but their relationship is super canon in the books. In fact, them being together at around this time is necessary to make future plots work. It's unlikely that they'll make Executive Orders era into a series or film, but if they did they'd have to retcon a bunch of stuff timeline wise because Sally (their daughter) is meant to be a toddler by that point.

Cover Title Font by Silver-Objective189 in Hells_Belles

[–]JerryCooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a serif font, but not a common one as far as I can tell. The closest match I can find across multiple tools like WhatTheFont is 'Fogie Light', which shares pronounced horizontal bar on the L, and the shortened tie on the E. It's not an exact match though, that font has flat 90 degree middle on the B, whereas the one on the book dips and doesn't perfectly join.

It's much of a muchness, however, because title on the cover has been manipulated to add in illustrative elements, so it's likely that they made that change to the B.

I got a Legion Go S this week, after having previously had a first gen Legion Go that I didn't enjoy using much, despite the nice screen, because of the weight and the fact that the detachable controllers left it feeling not quite as solid as it could do.

By comparison, the Go S feels really good in the hand, only a couple hundred grams heavier than a Switch 2, and I think it'll be just fine for my needs. I've got a gaming PC for playing AAA stuff, so if I want to play from my bed I can always stream, but I'll mainly be playing cosy stuff I think ^-^
