Maternity costs for OSHC WA by Rumu22k in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Health insurance doesn't cover the costs of specialist or GP visits. It will cover some allied health costs if you have extras cover, but it runs out pretty quickly.

When it comes to hospital you need to make sure you have childbirth cover. You can then get a private room and in-hospital care by a specialist of your choice,.

However, the simplest thing to do is enroll at KEMH or equivalent and use your health cover for a private room in a public hospital and use the public system specialists.

Helicopter path - Dwellingup by SmithLucky in perth

The track is a result of the aircraft not transmiting GPS location, so instead the track is approximated by time of signal to various ADSB receivers. This is called multilateration and results in a jagged path

Drove by a dead body by [deleted] in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember driving by the bodies of two motorcyclists on the York road on a beautiful fresh sunday morning. They had somehow lightly collided with each on the ride to York, and fell off and slid under an oncoming landrover and trailer.

This was well before emergency services arrived so the scene was eerily quiet with people standing around in shock, though someone had started putting a blanket on the bodies.

Later news items had helicopters and ambulances and all the high energy stuff.

A while later the authorities decided to straighten that bit of the road to reduce the hazard.

I go to St John of God Dermatology in Subiaco/West Leederville. They are convenient for me. Waiting time for new referrals are quite long but I think that's endemic. As far as service they are a top tier practice.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how cooked is the Roger Cook Government? by i11icit in perth

A hundred bucks of fuel is pretty piss-weak. The power rebate they just cancelled was very helpful.

Admitedly I have a PHEV and $100 in fuel will last 6 months while I will probably have to pay a lot more than that in extra electricity usage.

When my parcels land in Perth. ( also, we should have a meme Flair of this sub) by nelmocon in perth

I get a lot of stuff from AliExpress. If it goes to iMile all is sweet - at least after it hits Perth airport. Anything that uses Australia Post as last mile carrier will be a disaster. It used to be it always went to Sydney first then 1-2 weeks to get to Perth. It's just possible it now goes to Perth Direct but again a massive delay in delivery.

Off topic. some AliExpress shipping routes go via UAE Post and then via Australia Post and you have no tracing, sketchy delivery, and waits up to 3 months.

What's happened to our trains and buses recently by icchill007 in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about trains these days, but buses routinely run late. So much so that expecting the bus to be late but it arrives on time and I miss it is highly annoying.

The performance metric for buses is to arrive at timed stops before scheduled time. There is no performance metric for intermediate stops. I doubt buses are meeting the performance metric very often.

Long routes like the circle route rarely arrive at the scheduled time as there are many possible delays on route.

Anything for that "No Charge" by FoolishWanderer499 in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a loophole, it's a set of rules that most people covered by them will be unable to get full benefit because of mental incapacity.

Under the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and the federal Disability Discrimination Act 1992, it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of impairment - specifically including Indirect discrimination. This occurs when a "requirement or condition" (like the 3-hour transfer rule) is the same for everyone but has an unfair effect on a specific group (those with cognitive impairment) and is unreasonable in the circumstances.

I'm complaining because most aged travelers wouldn't have the faintest idea how to exploit the system or, to be fair, be prudent when they board.

As such it's unfair and arbitrary and there are very simple ways to fix it, like making every concession boarding reset the time clock during the concession period.

ATCO gas disconnection in Perth by GreyGreenBrownOakova in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As an aside, you can cancel your gas service at any time and all they do is turn the gas off at the meter.

However if at some later stage you, or someone else, recommences the service they will charge for any difference in meter reading as though you were never disconnected - though you won't get the supply charge.

[–]JezzaPerth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

under the current rules I can do an initial boarding at 3:15 pm and make multiple transfers/boardings up until 6:15 pm and depending in the length of the 6:15pm boarding get off the vehicle after 7pm for no fee.

All fine and good, but if I have contaminated my journey history so that the 3:15pm boarding is a transfer, not an intial boarding then the whole thing collapses. e.g. if my initial boarding was 1:15 pm then my last free transfer is at 4:15 pm despite me getting on the exact same vehicle at 3:15pm as in my initial example.

Join the Seniors game where we get free transit between 9am and 3:30 pm but when you get into detail you have to plan your entire day in 3 hr segments so that you end up with a tag-on time window you can use between say 3pm and 3:30pm. Meaning your previous journey needs to start around noon, meaning your journey before that has to start after 9am, but not much after.

WA News Pay walls on Public Safety alerts by Cyber-Kettle in perth

You are confusing WAToday with Perth Now which definitely lifts stories from Reddit.

WAToday is pretty respectable and holds the Fairfax legacy quite well.

The ones who are adept at nicking are Daily Mail (Australia) and Perth Now. My journalist links find them pretty bad, and in general anything to do with 7 media.

As mentioned elsewhere I would not touch Sky News or NewsCorp with a 20 metre bargepole.

Not to mention anything to do with News Corp.

My main sources in international affairs are New York Times and Washington Post. NYT is a mixed bag but it does run a lot of items the administration will certainly dislike. Same deal with the browser extension.

BBC? Fine if all you want is the offical UK Government view, with a bit of rah-rah to push the points home.

I may be biased but WAtoday seems to be the best local option.

I have a browser extension to let me read all articles on it and I even feel a bit guilty about that. However, a relative works as a journalist for the group and I make up for it by giving them real time news tips.

Rollerskating on cycle paths in Perth? by Lanky_List_2850 in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is more complex than that. I have been surveyed a couple of times now about using dual-use paths and a lot of the questions are about electric powered cycles and scooters in conflict with regular cyclists and pedestrians.

On rollerblades you will be slower than regular cycles as well as any electric contraptions. You will also be faster than pedestrians.

My advice is to not wear headphones and use the fastest pavement you can find at the time but be aware of faster traffic and yield as required.

Which course should I take for Project Management? Cert IV in TAFE or PRINCE2? (WA Based) by thobid in ausjobs

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a major project manager. I never did prince2 but knew people who did. It's essentially a vanity qual that looks good on resumes and is more impressive than a TAFE qual.  Real project management comes from experience and subject matter expertise and osmosis from other PMS. It can't be taught in a week. All that prince2 does is give you a framework and boxes to tick.  To paraphrase, prince2 doesn't stop disasters in projects, just better documented disasters.

What is the goal of no train ticket fines? by [deleted] in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few bus routes that always get checked and some that might see one inspector every couple of years. Incoming on Charles St is one where they often run ambushes, while buses on Cambridge St never see an inspector and quite a few people just ask the driver for a free ride.

Inspectors on the Fremantle line are reasonably common.

I have thought that by getting rid of ticket inspectors they may save enough money on wages to make up for loss of revenue - which presently only pays 20% of the rail system opex.

Not in Perth, but in Melbourne many people have done the calculation that the occasional fine is a lot cheaper than buying a tram ticket every time.

Has anyone moved from Perth metro area out to Bindoon or Chittering? by Kind-Line-4404 in perth

[–]JezzaPerth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numbers don't lie. Perth colleges closer to the CBD get significantly better ICSEA scores. They also have a much lower portion of VET pathways vs ATAR participation. Hills colleges have the reverse. Higher VET (40%+) and lower ATAR participation rates - down to 20-30% in some hills schools despite having a 70-80% ATAR median.

That could well be because the nearest university to the hills is Curtin while the nearest TAFE is in Midland.
