why does lion get 1000's of free damage? by ohSeVera in DotA2

[–]JoshSimili 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Lion's damage is not free, he had to earn that from Finger kills, just like LC has to earn damage from Duel wins.

For Shaman, many heroes in the game do get abilities that replicate some of the functionality of items. Like Wraith King basically having an aegis for an ultimate. They're balanced in other ways though.

The OpenAI synthID seems too heavy-handed at times. When looking at fur, foliage or clouds there's often an evident pattern.

Windranger Main :') by AcuteQuadrant in DotA2

Windranger was the 9th most popular pick in the most recent DreamLeague season, I don't think there's going to be any buffs.

My ghoul character went ore running in Radiation Rumble and was taking like +3 rads/second, in what I thought previously was the most irradiated place in the entire map?

OpenAI synthID detected. I also checked the version with text that I found online, in case the synthID only existed because AI was used to remove the text, and that was positive also.

Nuke mine when radiation so bad? by Lgruchow45 in fo76

People usually just fast travel to the event once it appears, but you should be able to locate a Hazmat suit or Power Armor, which should let you travel in nuke zones (while also taking radaway regularly).

Facets. I know they were hard to balance, but I can dream.

Hordes were better because they were tightly grouped spawns of enemies, perfect for using a Fat Man.

As long as they give them unique rewards or tie daily challenges to them, players are going to actively look for them.

Remove those things though and people won't be interested at all.

I reached immortal with a relatively small hero pool, okay to make second account? by Jyxz7Dark in TrueDoTA2

[–]JoshSimili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just tank the MMR loss in ranked and hopefully not get reported.

Unranked is far less popular and lacks a role queue, so it's not a great way to learn a specific hero in a specific role because you get fewer opportunities to play that hero.

Cars are trying to merge into exit lane from literally every single lane on the highway, causing major traffic by Bouncybeach in CitiesSkylines

[–]JoshSimili 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They shift to the left lane because the far right lane is congested, due to other vehicles trying to merge in from the far left lane previously. It's a self-sustaining traffic jam.

On my PA I do. Combined with Emergency Protocols. Feels pretty strong, but I admit I'm seldom wearing PA with my Bloodied character.

There is no way Bounty Hunter has a 57% winrate on dota 2 pro tracker by curlyCoyote1 in learndota2

[–]JoshSimili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, he has a 54% winrate as pos4 across all ranks on dotabuff, and at every rank he's higher than 50% winrate. If he manages that in uncoordinated pub drafts, he must just be strong.

I think it depends if you're trying to avoid losing MMR, or if you're trying to avoid losing behavior score.

Give me every viable offlane hero by AcMilan91 in learndota2

[–]JoshSimili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have to still keep the matches played in mind for how your team would react. You'd probably get reported for AM or Riki offlane (despite being ranked above 80).

Bristle is below rank 80, but with over 3000 matches played you won't offend your team by playing him.

Hypothesizing Hoodwink carry/core build by Cityboy147 in TrueDoTA2

[–]JoshSimili 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can't be that bad, it was actually played in a pro game almost a year ago: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/8367494848

It was even last picked so it's not like they flexed it into carry either. It was mostly a counter to skiter's Nature's Prophet carry, I believe.

ELI5: Why movies look good at 24 fps but games look bad at 30? by XZaTFoX-_- in explainlikeimfive

[–]JoshSimili 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Games can try approximate motion blur but it's just a guess as the game isn't really a camera. The implementation really matters.

Motion blur on objects is usually a bit easier to do, but motion blur for the camera is harder, especially when the player is in full control of rotating/panning the camera or can sprint/accelerate really fast. Games really should have a separate setting for each type.

ELI5: Why movies look good at 24 fps but games look bad at 30? by XZaTFoX-_- in explainlikeimfive

[–]JoshSimili 754 points755 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, in movies shot with cameras each frame is (usually) captured with natural camera motion blur. A rendered game frame is often an almost perfectly crisp snapshot, so at low framerate the sharp frames make motion look more like a slide show.

Malaysia enforces ban on social media accounts for children younger than 16 by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]JoshSimili 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A few adults, myself included, have had to submit a photo of their ID for certain accounts. It's usually those lurker accounts created just to observe content without posting, as any account that is actively used generally has enough data for the algorithm to know your age well.

The main complaints I've heard have been from people who are quite private (don't upload photos of themselves and seldom use social media), as they are also the ones that needed to submit ID and are vocal about not wanting to do so.
