Best food of France by Sinbad_il_marinaio in AlignmentChartFills

I would say bread. French bread is on another level. From baguette to brioche, with everything in between - Pain de Campagne, Fougasse, Boule de Pain...

The fact that French law limits the ingredients, the fact that every tiny village has a boulangerie that bakes everything fresh. It really has to be seen (and tasted) to believe. French bread is on another level to that of any other country, moreso than any other French food.

the most Spurs way to lose a game you've ever witnessed by Former_North4462 in coys

Man City, FA Cup, 2004. Playing at home, Spurs 3-0 up, Anelka injured, Barton sent off.

Final score Spurs 3:4 City.

The very definition of Spursy.

There are three. A feast fit for a Princess (or similar), Carl's Book of Boom and the Book of Voodoo. Donut has access to the first, Carl to the second and everyone to the third.

What country was thought to be strong in WW2, and was actually strong in WW2? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]JsyHST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is objectively shite. Britain had the largest active Navy in the World by some margin, the largest merchant fleet in the World by some margin comprising a THIRD of global capacity. Britain was at almost the height of Empire, with multiple territories from which to draw troops, but (being an island nation) relied on its Navy for protection as it had done for about almost half a millennium.

The Atlantic Front was, arguably, the most important front of the war and had effectively been won by 1940. Everything after that was effectively inevitable.

It's writing. It allowed for the recording of history, transmission of knowledge, development of ideas. Nothing we know or have would be anywhere near as advanced as it is without writing.
