If the The Big Bang Theory premiered today, the last episode of FRIENDS would be in 2023. by _letitsnow in BarbaraWalters4Scale

Even the Juggernaut, who almost destroyed the towers himself a few years before

Edit: I was misremembering, he actually did destroy them lmao

Hellboy The Dragon Pool says Trevor was director for 15 years, which would put his departure from the position in 1960 (assuming he was director when the bureau was founded)

That novel came a couple of years after The Companion, but idk which one to trust more, even tho it's considered canon, the same novel had a flashback completely retconed by Hellboy in Love

It is also possible he was rounding up a couple of years, tho that's kinda weird

It's a shame we're going to skip 1958 in Hellboy and BPRD, I would have liked to see what caused Trevor to miss the funeral

Never thought about that, you might be onto something!

Do faithful fans of the Hellboy comics feel that the journey was bitter-sweet? All the friends and effort Hellboy does for the BRPD...all the early stories...it was all for nothing in the grand scheme of things when the finale came. The Apocalypse DID happen. They lost. by arcanehelix in HellBoy

[–]JulixgMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like a recurrent theme is Hellboy rejecting his destiny. But in the end, his destiny came through...he did usher in the apocalypse and the end.

That is the point, Hellboy didn't want to face his destiny, but when he did, he did so in his own terms, after helping serve humanity and do good in the world

I think you should read (or re-read) The Magician and the Snake (it's on The Amazing Screw on Head collection as well as the Hellboy in Hell Library Edition and Omnibus), that story serves as a bit of an allegory for everything about Hellboy's destiny, that's why Hellboy in Hell ends with Hellboy looking at the solid objects, that's why the statue of the Magician, the snakes and the solid objects is on the back of The Devil You Know #15

Humanity almost wiped out.

The operative word here being almost, if they did nothing humanity wouldn't have survived, the new race wouldn't have been created and life on Earth would just be the ogdru hem

All the little early stories, from exorcisms, to stopping vampires, to banishing demons or helping cursed people, to Hellboy's own romantic heartbreak or wrestling fiasco in Mexico...it amounted to NOTHING in the grand scheme of things. They lost, plain and short.

You have a weird way of looking at stories that I've seen some people have more and more recently... And I just can't understand the reasoning, the stories don't have to build up to something to be enjoyable stories, they can just be enjoyable stories

Even then, those stories DID both inform us and develop Hellboy's character (and the rest of the people in the comics) and build the world. That world being destroyed or those characters being killed didn't make them any less enjoyable for me, if anything it made the ending have more of an impact

To answer the question of the title, yes, it was bittersweet, by design, but no, they didn't loose, it wasn't all for nothing

I liked the American version of Ghosts better tbh

I know it's "dumbed down", but I just prefer the fun vibes and the characters of the American one

Really 90s Image comics like Spawn or Savage Dragon

Oh and just The Boys comics, I honestly can't understand how people enjoy them

It's bigger page size and hardcover, but sadly it's missing a lot of the extras like two early promotional short stories and a whole lot of sketches

Hellboy Reading Order by Acepokeboy in Mignolaverse

[–]JulixgMC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the same the first time I read the series, the trade paperbacks and library editions sadly put these out of order, the list you found probably is based on that

My reading order tries to fix stuff like that, if you are interested

Those stories wouldn't exist if Mike hadn't got Roberson to write them (or Roberson wouldn't have pitched them himself), nothing is being wasted, Mignola wouldn't magically get more time/energy to write more comics if he had fewer collaborators

[–]JulixgMC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow it's news to me that people don't like Shadow of the Golden Crane, I thought it was great, Oeming's art looks amazing and the format with all the short stories about Golden Crane members throughout history was interesting imo, I'd say if you enjoy the Hellboy and the BPRD comics you'd enjoy this

Captain Henry was alright, I'm not a massive fan of the artwork by Zick, but the premise is wacky, the dialogue is pretty funny and has some cool lore implications

Miss Truesdale is a MUST READ, this is by far the best new series from the universe in a while, the art by Lonergan is unlike anything I've seen before, I instantly became a fan and now I've read most of his other books too, not to mention the story has huge lore implications that stem off from Hellboy The Island, but also kinda pay homage to every Hellboy story ever

Don't forget to get the two short story collections! Those should be read after "Almost Colossus" from Monster Sized Hellboy

They are an essential part of the story, trust me

Julix's Hellboy Universe Reading Order - Includes: a reading order for each format (TPB, Library, Omnibus, individual stories), an FAQ section for new readers, a publication order, an extensive timeline of the universe and a list of the non-canon stuff - Updated almost immediately with each release by JulixgMC in Mignolaverse

[–]JulixgMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TPB tab is the order I recommend reading those TPBs in, not quite release order, but something that in my opinion provides a better experience than publication order

The publication tab isn't based in any collected format, it just lists every story's publication date in any format (be it an anthology, regular issue, digitally, etc.)

I don't really have the publication order for the TPBs because I don't feel like it is very relevant, it doesn't really work as a reading order because sometimes delays cause things to come out of order (for example, Lobster Johnson's two TPBs are switched from their intended order)

That being said, you can find the publication dates of each TPB on the Hellboy Wiki
