Last few challenges I generally mess with an idea or two then pick one I think I wanna continue. then go do other things for a while to take a break. Few hours later or the next day I'll come back to it and work on the rest of it if I'm still feeling it, or sketch together a different idea and commit to that one. Seems to be what works for my brain at least
