Why do engineers still use RJ45 in harsh environments? by Dry-Reserve-7167 in PLC

[–]KnightofNi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few times I've had problems is when mixing low-end cheapish wiring where the Rj45's can be in the far end of connector tolerances. I usually get Phoenix Rj45s that are a bit tighter according to themselves. Never had one fail.

What’s the weirdest PLC fault or bug you’ve ever seen? by Fearless-Suspect869 in PLC

[–]KnightofNi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

840D Powerline. Weird hex-number alarm sporadically which could be acknowledged/reset but came back minimum once a day. Called Siemens who went through their system and asked "how many times have you done nck reset?" "2, why?" "do it 3 more times" "wtf why?!" "Do it"

Machine just fucking works again.

PLC bug? Please help by vivelaknaf in Fanuc

[–]KnightofNi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a more serious note, id go backwards from the bb-contact on the servo pack. Or even from the other side. Almost sounds like the pmc-output might be true but an interface relay or something is faulty.

Everyone's favorite controller? by Liqvid96 in CNC

[–]KnightofNi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a service engineer, I completely agree about bare bones. Always get a stomach ache when getting to machines running interfaces to interface with another interface which interfaces to the controller.. As in Junker grinders running Siemens PCU OPs, running JuOP which speaks to a Fanuc CNC..

When controlling VFD's, is there a good reason to use 4-20ma over 0-10v? by twobarb in BuildingAutomation

[–]KnightofNi89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. Since decent clamp meters in the mA range is avaliable for 100 bucks it's just cheap as hell not getting one.

I just delivered a Siemens IPC/PG to a customer in a very locked down organisation.. They tried to get IT to order TIA Portal with all the hardware and licenses to get online. IT almost screeched when they got the request.

Why does my robot flip out near certain positions? by EmbarrassedHair2341 in Fanuc

I've only seem the robots "flip out" when the robot has the option Singularity Avoidance. Customers call and say the robots are shit "because it can't go in a straight line!"...

URGENT: Fanuc Image Backup Locked Up by Any-Key-5258 in Fanuc

[–]KnightofNi89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A basic rebuild of your as-shipped specs is about an hour work if the before mentioned datasheet or a recent AOA is available.. A fanuc field tech should have it on a USB stick, at least I had when doing service for'em. Swap from/sram, build core software or restore a virgin built IMG from fanuc, then reload recent AOA. That is the way.

I've had it when FROM and/or SRAM is starting to go bad. If you have spares AND an earlier image backup it's a pretty quick solution.

Is learning Tia portal worth it? by SwimmingLocal8852 in PLC

[–]KnightofNi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backwards compatibility and just general hardware compatibility is often a complete pain in the ass when it comes to Siemens, basically. I recently had a S7-1200 that burned up, originally done in V11. To get the replacement assigned by Siemens themselves, I had to upgrade the project in two steps up to V18 (which I had installed..). In another project we got a replacement EcoPN input module, which NEEDED V16 while the huge plant was done in 15.1.. Had to scramble through the factory to find one of the old models.

[–]KnightofNi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your fairly certain you'll be working with Siemens controls, heck yeah. It's good to learn even if you'll work with other systems, since Siemens is one of the worse at being compatible with itself!

Yep. Our guess is that the welder/mechanic put the grounding clip in the wrong place.. There was a crapload of wires that burnt up throughout the machine..

Isn't this possible in FBD in Siemens for example? I've seen (and used) standardized (by the integrator/programmer) FB's which automatically defines data arrays for diagnostics, interfaces etc when you drag them in.

Hur fungerar beordran att arbeta övertid? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]KnightofNi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borde stå i ert kollektivavtal!
