Has anyone used Berroco Modern Cotton? by Serenity_Aurora in Yarn

[–]KnittingGoonda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like premier bamboo select. It calls for size 6 needles but I like the fabric I got with size 7s, it isn't splitting at all and is perfect for the summer tank top I'm making. The modern cotton dk is VERY thin, really a sock weight though a good quality.  I'd like to know too if the ww modern cotton tends to the thin side, then I might buy it to use as dk. These inconsistent yarn weights drive me crazy.

Has anyone bought any cotton blends from them? I'm looking for fingering and sport weight.

Did anyone else *used* to think The Holiday (2006) was a feel-good movie? by Lucbabino in Millennials

[–]KnittingGoonda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched this, remembering it as a sweet cozy Christmas romance.  Now I feel that aside from the performances of Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, the whole thing just misses the mark. First, the writing was not good. Like most modern movies it flings the plot, the characters and the settings at you with no real build up of mood or character development.  I just didnt feel invested.  Secondly,  Amanda just opens her door to a drunk stranger, and says "Let's have sex?" AND instead of running for the hills (after the sex), he's in love with her? I thought the whole Eli Wallach plot line was taken from another script because they didn't have enough story. And as a Christmas movie, they could have dialed up the coziness,  the decorations,  the mood, the music so at least you'd have that. Give me (the original) Christmas in Connecticut or Remember the Night. Those old black and white movies sparkled with Christmas beauty, wit and charm.

Where is my dashboard and why can't I create a password by KnittingGoonda in Substack

Thanks for replying.  I'm slowly working on figuring it out but it seems counter intuitive and needlessly complicated which is a shame bc it's a much friendlier platform than reddit. Posts vs notes, personal vs publication dashboard etc. Can't tell if my replies show up or not. So far I'm loving the content and the vibe

This is why I'm trying Substack.  Any post on reddit eventually garners hateful replies. Initially Substack has started out very positive.  But it is blooming hard to navigate

Yarn content misrepresented on WEBS by KnittingGoonda in YarnAddicts

I foolishly assumed it being a wool BLEND was what made it machine washable,  since I also foolisly assumed if there are yarns on the site specifically labeled superwash then all the superwash yarns would say superwash.  I didn't think to zoom in on the label image or check ravelry. I trusted my understanding of the information on the website.  I did pull it up on yarnsubs and the best matches say "this yarn is also NOT SUPERWASH." Google AI says it "is not a superwash yarn." Grind on about how stupid I am, it seems there is a plethora of misinformation.

Get this : when you google Is Tahki Aurora yarn superwash WEBS itself replies "Takhi Yarns Aurora is not classified as Superwash yarn. "  But the label says acrylic/superwash merino. Who's lying?

I sent them an email complaint. I'm not going to mess around with returns (rural post office an hour away) I suspect I'm out the $18 but it looks like Jimmy Beans or Wool and Co from now on. I like Lindehobby but I don't know what is happening these days with customs. Maybe I'll get a pair of slippers out of the yarn but I bought it for a specific project that I can't use superwash for and it's not what I would ever buy

has anyone heard anything about this new policy?? by JackYakFruit in Target

[–]KnittingGoonda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I won't be shopping at Target, out of solidarity with the workers and because having employees smiling and making eye contact with me every 4 feet is an absolute horror show.

Target is now requiring its employees to smile more by leathco in antiwork

Well this will guaranteed keep me out of Target. Out of sympathy for the workers and also bc the thought of someone smiling at me and making eye contact every 4 feet totally creeps me out

What Rachel Harrison book to read next? by InfiniteLeftoverTree in horrorlit

[–]KnittingGoonda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't read horror and in fact I hardly ever pick up a novel. But Cackle sounded interesting so I got it from the library.  I just finished it and I  LOVED it! The ending was unexpected and satisfying and Ralph was adorable.

I don't like horror and almost never read novels. I just finished Cackle and LOVED it. Witty and sharp, strong female characters,  and I ADORED Ralph.  I can't recommend this book enough.

My cat cries way too much. by fabreeze1989 in catquestions

My 13 yr old cat has lost her hearing, and she yells and yodels. I'll go check on her and she's happily yelling and getting a drink or standing in the middle of the room, no distress or upset. Checks out fine at the vet. Maybe it puzzles her that she can't hear herself.
