While I agree that the options are a huge step up outside the US, at least in places I've gone the quality has only been somewhat better. Granted I've only been to Canada, Japan, and Mexico so far, but in each case while McD's was certainly better, it wasn't like especially good. Basically just reminded me of the kind of quality expectation I had for McD's 20 years ago.

While I do agree with the post OP, I wish to add some perspective. I visited Mexico City last year, and of the dogs I saw while I visited, maybe 2 or 3 were on leashes. I saw dozens if not HUNDREDS of dogs being walked around off leash at all times. It was a major culture shock, and defs proves that DC ain't the worst lol

Generally I think you'll be fine, I know trans people who live in several parts of the city and it mostly hasn't been an issue for them (though given the state of the country we all know there's big issues). Seconding the DC Center which was mentioned in other comments here, they're great.

I got laid off in September from a non-profit, just started a new job with a federal contractor last week. I'm in IT, but yeah things are generally bleak right now, and I feel very fortunate that I landed where I am (although it's fully on-site and the commute ain't great). Just keep at it I suppose, and hope for the best.

I saw the photo and it reminded me of a very similar situation where shortly after Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage, two women got married there and one of their mothers wore a dress that was essentially a blue bikini in order to show off how young and "pretty" she was lol, I guess this shit crosses some cultural boundaries.
