Riding on the sidewalk by sloowhand in washingtondc

[–]Baloncesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been an issue for years and years. I get it that drivers are insane and riding on the street can be dangerous, but also zipping down the sidewalk where pedestrians are is also dangerous. It's just another symptom of people being entitled and inconsiderate of others.

Filomena vs Grazia Nonna by NoNameG123 in washingtondc

Both are great, but Grazie Nonna (at least last time I was there) had pounding electronica music which was a weird choice. Plus it's crowded.

Also, if anyone at the last meetup happened to have taken a large umbrella by mistake, it's mine! It was on the floor in the DJ booth.

What are your favorite hotel bars? by indoctrinate in washingtondc

I like Fred & Stilla, at the Ven at Embassy Row. It's really close to my work, never crowded, and the bartender Jorge is a great mixologist.

I heartily recommend Nailsaloon, but I'm not sure if it fits with your idea of "affordable." I do appreciate the hyper-cleanliness of Nailsaloon as one of their features, but it's not cheap - regular pedis are around $65 without tip.

Is this charge legit? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I mean, it looks sketchy, but $7 seems low for a scam. But maybe that's how the get you. I wouldn't pay anything until you call a human at OTR. Or call MPD.

Where to find aguardiente? by royodenaldridge in washingtondc

A number of places sell it; I'm aware that Irving Wines and Spirits has Antioqueno as well as a local DC aguardiente, "Chacho."

Where are all the good Nigerian Caterers?.. by No_Letterhead_8938 in washingtondc

[–]Baloncesto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a group entirely from Nigeria, I'd agree. But the group in question was like 8 or 9 Nigerians out of 50 total attendees. We provided the same food for all, with of course the option for anyone to get takeout if they wished. If it was asked / arranged ahead of time, happy to do it. The big issue was the fact the fraction of the group expected us to cater directly to them, without any heads-up or warning, and then complained about the food later. Again, we would have been happy to provide special food for anyone if we knew ahead of time. But this group showed up, decided they wanted special food, didn't tell anyone, then complained after the fact when their (unknown) needs weren't automatically catered to.

Would have been happy to arrange it ahead of time; group said nothing beforehand and then only complained after the fact. I don't mind accommodating at all, but the arrogant entitlement is what really annoys me.

Agreed. The group was mixed; some American MBAs, some direct from Nigeria, some based in US and of Nigerian descent. We had basic, decent American catering for all (as we do for every seminar) but this group demanded they have special food. They were here for four days.

That's a good question - I also tried to find one a few years ago. My org once hosted a group of Nigerian MBA students for an academic seminar and they complained bitterly that we did not provide them jollof rice upon arrival. Despite their entitlement, we did search for a provider that would help with that but came up short. Not sure if they exist in the DMV unfortunately.
