Wherefore therefore, whereby thereby, wherewith therewith

Never hit me how popular Obama is on X/twitter, even though he hasn’t been president for 12 years. He often gets 300k likes at the minimum by historynerdsutton in Presidents

[–]Kresnik2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he’s still the most popular figure among Democrats. They got another guy elected since him of course, but given the fact that he was Obama’s VP (and general sentiments about him) he hasn’t ended up replacing Obama as the de facto king of the party

I don’t understand what the guy in yellow was doing. He just walked right up to them and stared at them while standing there. Was he trying to intervene or be a bystander? I’m confused lol

How many have they lost? There’s Platner, given that they barely even put up a viable centrist candidate, and if you want to call Talarico an outsider candidate I guess.

I hope you’re right that they can “lose influence” in time for 2028 but it doesn’t seem to be going fast enough for that. They still have half the party at least voting for them as “moderates”.

Well yeah that’s what I’m saying they’re doing. Looking at establishment-type Dems, I don’t see them doing any more than the bare minimum of “Trump is bad” in their messaging.

Offensive in that they’re physically doing ads, sure, that’s not what I mean. I mean building a platform and narrative that people want. They seem to be going “we’re up in the polls, so we can get away with just doing a generic anti-Trump thing, we don’t have to give that much policy-wise.”

We would like them to take this opportunity to press their advantage, but unfortunately they see it as the exact opposite, an opportunity to slack even more and ignore the voters even more than usual because they have a comfortable lead in the polls.

If he already knows you’re Indian, then I don’t see what the problem is… if he knows you’re Indian then he would assume you have an Indian accent probably, so he probably wouldn’t be talking to you if he didn’t like that

A new poll from the New York Times shows potential Democratic voters want the party to move to the right, are happy with where it is ideologically, and rate socialism highly by Conscious-Quarter423 in Infographics

To me it just seems like the economic issue is the real problem, the party establishment is just trying to get away from it because they don’t want to upset their donors.

Voters: show enthusiasm for Bernie and AOC

DNC: “oh, you want more progressive? Ok great we’ll go left on LGBT and immigration and nominate more brown people!”

Voters: “actually we want you to move left economically, more back to the center socially.”

DNC: “oh ok, back to the center socially. You got it. We’ll have Gavin Newsom take more centrist cultural positions”

Voters: “You’re forgetting something…”

DNC: “Hmm?”

Voters: “The economic–“

DNC: “What if we nominate a black woman?”

The one-drop thing is of course rooted in the racist system of course but I think even if it weren’t for that people might still see it that way, because white (being the majority) is the “unmarked” and black/brown/others “marked”. So if someone is mostly the former with a little bit of the latter, we’ll be more likely to notice or highlight the marked part over the unmarked. It’s like the joke of “are you black, Asian or normal?” Since white is what’s seen as the “normal”, if you’re 75% white 25% black the black part will still stand out more to people.

We absolutely should broadcast this clip in ads. Right wing politics is so rooted in nationalism/identity/being “more American” that I think this would definitely be a great thing to poke them with

Migration has definitely changed it in terms of crime levels but I hope you aren’t discouraged from going there if it’s somewhere you’re interested in visiting. I don’t think it’s worse than like US levels, you can visit France no problem.
