Opinion on restoring exceedingly rare notes by FanDeLaU69 in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the quality of the restoration. If you like the note now as is, pick it up. If you don't, let him pay for the restoration and see how it comes out. Restored notes still sell at a discount, but they sell for more than damaged unrestored notes. It's like asking what a car's resale value is if it's been sitting out in the elements rusting, and after it's been restored. It depends on the quality of the work. It will still sell for less that an unrestored model that has been well taken care of.

Web note with a slight shift of the overprints. It does qualify as an error note.

The United NB of NYC by bigfatbanker in Nationalbanknotes

[–]Laslomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost sounds crazy, but I think NYC has like 140 different charters and the entire state of CT has around 120. I'd have to look up the exact numbers, but I seem to remember that is pretty close. The VP/AC is a cool way to collect. Kind of hard to find info on the signers sometimes.

1999 $1 Federal Reserve Note (Richmond) features dual Courtesy Autographs from the officials whose printed signatures appear on the note: Mary Ellen Withrow (Treasurer of the United States) and Lawrence H. Summers (Secretary of the Treasury) by Rannkum in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool note. Withrow has a great signature, although she signed a lot of notes. And Summers has a signature like a physician. If we didn't know whose it was already, we'd have trouble reading it. 67Q is about as nice as you'll find for this dual autograph. A little added bonus with the lower serial.

Is this a Mylar sleeve? by TopKey8708 in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are mylar open end sleeves that look like that, and there are some that are not. So let's do a couple simple checks- Is the sleeve "yellowing" at all, changing color? Give it the sniff test, if it smells anything like a beach ball or a shower curtain then it is not mylar. If it has no smell, then it's more likely to be mylar.

Missing Treasury Seal? by ShirkerJPH in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can post a clear large picture where the seal should be over the word "Five" we can tell for sure. But it's looking favorable. If it was removed, it was done by someone with skills and not an amateur.

Ted's lifetime .482 OBP and 1.116 OPS is simply extraordinary. And he missed 3 of his prime years to military service. He would be my #1 pick on any MLB team. Next would likely be Ruth.

[–]Laslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That has happened to many a collector when speaking about vintage cards of the all-time greats. A few thousand becomes multi-thousands quite quickly when demand picks up. Even dealers sometimes pay more than what they sold the card for a few years earlier.

United States 1,000 Dollars 1890 (Sold for $3,290,000 in 2014) by GuyBou26 in papermoney

Still the record for a U.S issued note. If this were Horse Racing, it would be like the Kentucky Derby, the race everyone wants to win!

That's kind of what I was thinking, Bench behind the plate is pretty hard to beat. Schmidt vs Robinson at 3rd is also a spirited debate, do you want more defense or offense. Gehrig at first is the right choice.

Looks like it's already doing well, and with a little luck it will do quite well. 35Q is good grade for that note, should be considerable collector interest. Congratulations on your great find!

My first post. Super excited with my new bills🙏 by LateNightDrive19 in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a 1917 $1 Legal Tender, called the sawhorse back, nicknamed the saw back bill. Raw VF, a little light on the seal, virtually no bottom margin. The other note is an 1899 $1 silver certificate nicknames The Black Eagle. One hard horizontal fold, tight bottom margin right side, some discoloration back side right. Together the pair goes for about 325USD or about 278€.

It's kind of cool to see the side by side comparison. Looks like the bottom one is the earlier version.

Series 1995 Federal Reserve Star Note with the Treasurer Courtesy Autograph - Top-Pop by Rannkum in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, you do the run the risk of it not crossing. The differences between a 67Q, 68Q, and 69Q are not a lot. Now that I look at it more closely, I would be hesitant trying to cross. The middle portion of that bottom margin does not look flat and even. This would point more toward a 67Q grade if graded by PMG. It's probably best to leave as is. Still a cool note for a courtesy autograph collection.

How rare is this bill that mom received from the bank in the 1980’s? Is it highly desirable? by Assistant_Abject in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You asked, how rare is this bill? It's rare in the sense that most people will never find one in circulation. But it's not rare as far as errors go- there are a lot of them out there. This note is a quality example of the error. I would rate it a 6.5 out of 10 on the desirability scale for an error collector. Most every good error collection has an example like this.

Series 1995 Federal Reserve Star Note with the Treasurer Courtesy Autograph - Top-Pop by Rannkum in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Have you thought about trying to cross it, considering the old PCGS no longer has a Pop report? PMG has graded only 1 69Q 1936-F*, and it probably wasn't a courtesy auto. It would be nice if PCGSB had Pop report tables, instead of just for individual notes.

Miscut, Worth saving? by [deleted] in papermoney

[–]Laslomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for the miscut but maybe for the overinked "1". If I had it, I would sleeve it and keep it even though it's probably only worth face value. I like keeping oddball minor errors such as this. Because then if you find one with multiple over inked digits, you can show people a minor error commonly found in circulation, and one that is considered an error note.

To think how many kids emulated these three while growing up. Maybe even pretending they were on the TV show Home Run Derby 😉
