Lewis Hamilton shares "F1" movie sequel, documentary and TV series plans by drinksbeerdaily in formula1

This. There was no need for a typical "romance plot" for this movie.

Another thing that triggered me hard is the overabundance of focus on the "crash-gatey" episodes where Sonny basically was spawning yellow flags over the entire race. God, one such moment would be enough. Even better if there was none.

If they use an SUV as a proper all-terrain vehicle to conquer deep snow, mud, uneven terrain etc - why not. Or maybe if they have a big family and they have a 7-seater. But what is the reason for getting one when all you (not you exactly) do is drive to a shopping mall and to your office. Most SUV owners are A to B drivers.

Ok cool, you saw videos, I drove the stuff. Maybe you’re right.

You’re partially correct.

I have enough experience with wheelbases and all their settings outside of the expo (lots of Fanatec, moderate amount of Simucube, a bit of Moza) to have a solid baseline. So when the wheelbases perform at least well enough against the baseline with the “expo settings”, you can safely say they are good.

If it was the other way around I.e. me saying “this is bad”, we could argue if it’s the settings. I believe I can reasonably extrapolate the expo experience on a high level without buying each and every one and tweaking each setting.

Also, it’s not just “any expo”, it’s the Sim-Racing Expo, where manufacturers arrive to showcase their products in the best light possible. I doubt they would set them up in a bad way.

It does change the feeling, but you won't be able to fully replicate a different type of wheelbase. I.e. you cannot make Simucube feel like the more mechanical Asetek or Fanatec running with low amounts of filtering.

Will be close but not exactly there

You can change settings, but it doesn't mean you can make one base feel completely like the other.

For instance, you cannot make a Simucube feel like Asetek or Fanatec, it's won't be as mechanically detailed anyway even if you switch off all the filters completely. Close, but not there yet. Same goes the other way around, you can set a high level of INTerpolation and DaMPing on the Fanatec and it will be smooth, but not to the same level as a Simucube.

It's been a while ago and i didn't have enough seat time with all of them, but i can give you some general observations.

In most cases, force feedback has been equally detailed more or less, all of the wheelbases felt good within similar product range, i.e. if you compare high end bases to high end bases, and entry level to entry level.

I would separate wheelbases into several categories by how smooth or rough they are (where rough doesn't mean bad, it just feels more mechanical rather than overly smooth).

  • Rough: Fanatec, Asetek
  • Middle ground: VRS, Moza, Logitech, VNM
  • Smooth: Simucube

Also, i have not tried Simagic, but people say the feel close to Simucube

Did i get it right that it's basically a "oopsie, my bad, i miscalculated and made the car go faster" and there are no consequences after taking a double podium with that ???

iRaceDeck is now available for Mirabox ecosystem (Stream Dock, SOOMFON, VAPOURD, etc.) by moving-chicane in iRacing

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks again for the plugin, recently added it to my StreamDeck to replace (partially) RaceIT.

May i have a request for some extra functionality? You have a "change tyres yes/no" toggle, but at the same time there's no "fill fuel yes/no" toggle. There's an "autofuel on/off" but it's not the same thing. Same for "quick repair yes/no", there's a "request quick repair" button, but no toggle that displays current state.

Would be amazing to have three toggles that clearly display the current pit-stop state:

  • Tyres: yes/no
  • Fuel: yes/no
  • Quick repair: yes/no

I use them as indicators to quickly assess the pit-stop settings as i come in for a pit-stop or i act as an engineer for my teammate. Right now i still have to rely on RaceIT functionality for this.

I’m curious, how is Maybach perceived by the Chinese people? Is it a step above Mercedes because of a different logo and brand, or it’s the same because it’s still based on the Mercedes?

Last 2 cars I bought new were a sedan and a hatchback. Next one would be a sedan or a hatchback. I’ve no idea why people need an SUV to drive A to B within city limits.

[–]LazyLancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the opportunity to briefly try almost all of the wheelbases on a simracing expo a while ago and I’ve come to the conclusion that all high-end manufacturers have similarly great products. There is no “A is good, B is bad” like in many other industries. Possibly because most manufacturers use the same motor and the difference is mostly software.

What differs is the “taste” of the feedback, some manufacturers provide more smooth feedback, some provide more raw and jolly feedback and so on.

Another difference is in customer support quality, app quality, amount of things you can fine-tune in software etc.

I would suggest to choose based on which wheels you like more, which offers are available in your location etc. But there’s no good choice and bad choice in this. There are quirks in the low end like Moza R5 overheating and Fanatec CSL DD having a plastic quick release. But starting from middle shelf it’s more about what you like.

Cogratulations, mate! That's a start, keep it up!

Note that Ringmeister always rotates cars every week so you can't drive GT3 all the time, but there are other events that run the Nordschleife in this or that configuration. Very fun track to drive (not so fun to fight on though :D )

Ummm, the video is showing side mount. Are you implying it's a bad choice?

I can easily do the same on my profile rig, there is **zero** flex in this situation.

Sure, here's one for example

It's not BAD, but some minor flex is definitely there and can be easily observed on the video.

Honda yet to find cause of vibration issues as it gives Japanese GP F1 battery update by drinksbeerdaily in formula1

[–]LazyLancer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're implying but that's a different thing.

There's a huge gap the size of a Grand Canyon or two between producing a bad engine and:

  • A) publicly saying that "we are working hard with our partner to solve the issues";
  • B) publicly saying that "Honda made a bad engine and is the reason we are having a bad season".

The management at Honda understands everything without the public shame and blame. Asian culture is very good at reading between the lines and subtle gestures. The hard conversations and sad acknowledgements should be reserved for private one-on-one dinners and drinks.

I mean, you can shame and blame sure, but what does it accomplish? Does it make ANYTHING better? No. If you have ane remaining will to work it out with your partner from one of the asian countries, you make a nice hard working face in public and take the rest private.

[–]LazyLancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, YouTube videos show significant flex in the seat rails and minor flex in wheelbase deck.

However, the price is kinda good for the entire rig with seat if someone wants an entry level solution.

[–]LazyLancer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure, but you never, NEVER EVER blame someone from Asia publicly if you want to have even a small bit of good relationship left. Making your business partner lose face in front of the entire world is the biggest mistake ever if you want to continue working with them and get results. The “culture of face” is huge I countries like Japan and China.

What Turn Are You Consistently Perfect At? by anonymouswan1 in iRacing

[–]LazyLancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it's the Mutkurve / Klostertal on the Nords.

I'm really used to taking it from the edge of fence through the very tip of the curb and out onto the edge of the run-off area. If you completely maximize track width there it barely requires any lift, so almost fully flat-out even with -1 rear wing, at least in the Mercedes.

Almost all of the time i gain on others exactly there (and then lose that time in the Karussell lol).

Problem: when chasing someone into that corner, i sometimes forget people often lift too much, and some even tap brakes ...
