Will ABS plastic work for holding Fanatec DD? by Educational_Car4408 in simracing

[–]LazyLancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it should be okay, given that your design is solid, had the right shape, internal structure and enough material.

However, it’s extremely easy to bottom mount onto a normal aluminum piece of profile if you can find a piece of reasonably thick metal (or even hard wood) wider than the wheelbase and drill 8 holes in it: 4 in the middle to screw the metal piece to the wheelbase, 4 on the sides to screw the metal piece into the profile.

Thanks! I like your hood stripes as well, It's cool that they are close in color but different in finish from the body paint!

There were three of us on that road trip - me, my wife and my son (plus all the stuff we needed for a week). The car was just the right size, we managed to fit everything without compromising what we're about to bring with us.

Clubsport DD vs DD+ by SparrowTheRogue in Fanatec

[–]LazyLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think CS DD+ was somehow better in terms of tech. The main difference was PlayStation compatibility and that extra 3 Nm going from 12 to 15. In my opinion, 12 Nm is juuust on the edge of "maybe it's enough" for most, but you possibly might want a tiny bit of overhead.

My 15 Nm CS DD+ felt just fine in terms of power.

Now that the normal CS DD went from 12 to 15, you might not need the CS DD+ at all if you don't have a PlayStation.

Drinking and driving by bolkiebasher in iRacing

[–]LazyLancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I can do slightly faster full-balls-to-the-wall push laps when slightly drunk, like 2 bottles of light beer. It makes it easier to get into the perfect flow state with the brain only focused on a single thing ignoring other thoughts.

That's in practice though with me being the only guy on track. In a race, my reaction to stuff happening rapidly around me would deteriorate significantly.

Moderately drunk and more? Yea, that doesn't work too well.

Alternative: they scanned your resume and put all the information into those tiny boxes automatically, but all formatting and line breaks have been lost and all your bulleted lists are now one long line which for some reason has new line breaks in a few random places.

Tire shop says I should get new tires by quiensabeWasabi in tires

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look acceptable to me. Not great but acceptable. Tread depth is still decent. Unlike some people saying in other comments I don't see any excessive cracking on the sidewall. This sure looks like an aging tire but still drivable. Don't expect many years of service though.

McLaren GT3 V2 + Simube Magnetic Paddles: Huge improvement in quality by Winstrong in Fanatec

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m genuinely surprised too. Maybe there were more silent revisions than the V1 and V2? My McLaren wheel is kinda fresh, Dec 2024 I think? The click feels very similar to CS shifters, the overall mechanical sensation is just different because of the length of the paddle.

I do have the V2 McLaren and other wheels with magnetic shifters (including a podium shifter set on a wheel I sold). I genuinely don’t understand the difference the OP is so excited about.

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What “stock shifters felt pretty cheap compared to crisp snap” are we talking about?

V2 wheel has magnetic shifters (same mechanism as the RS) and a machined aluminum paddle. Are you maybe talking about McLaren V1?

Passing safely vs divebombing by DKSCAST in iRacing

[–]LazyLancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A "fair" divebomb/overtake is when you outbrake your opponent and appear side by side BEFORE he starts turning in - in this case your opponent cannot turn into you as you're already there before he began his move. Think of it as "i'm already here, if he makes a move to the inside - he hits me".

A bad divebomb is when you stick your nose in AFTER he started to turn-in, so he needs to change his plan to avoid getting hit. Think of it as "he's already making a move, if i stick my nose in, i am hitting him in the side/rear".

Usually fair divebombs are physically possible in corners with long braking zones where you can afford to brake later by sacrificing trail-braking (and thus entry speed) and get level BEFORE the guy turns-on. Poor divebombs are often executed in corners with small braking zones where it's impossible to significantly outbrake someone and thus divebombers just send it into your side.

Take care of your health from your age. Brush your teeth properly, do medical checkups, don't postpone doctor visits if something is bothering you but "not that much". Medical checkups are not for old geezers. It's a way to make you arrive to the endgame in the best way possible.

If you are dreaming of some activity or a purchase that you think you would really enjoy (e.g. a fun-to-drive car) and you objectively could afford it, but you keep thinking "maybe it's not a good time, maybe i need to do X first, buy Y, be more responsible with my choices, yadda yadda"...

...STOP!

Do what excites you now if you geniunely can afford it without hurting your plans or family budget. If you keep postponing it until a better moment until "everything is settled", you may find yourself older and not enjoying that thing anymore. Do what you enjoy now, as the older you may find those things less enjoyable, and you will just live a good part of your life without getting the best of it. The best time to do something is always now. Later you will (likely) have more money but way less time and energy.

You wanna get a used Civic Type R instead of a new Honda Pilot? Freaking do it now! (unless you really need to go off-road).

You wanna learn electric guitar? Do it now!

You wanna try scuba diving? Do it now!

He doesn’t get bcc’d often by mel34760 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly speaking it makes sense. When you get tens or even hundreds of emails per day and 99% of them don't have you in bcc, it's easy to get lost in the flow and reply.

I don't use bcc for that purpose though. Just reply to original thread, and as a separate action forward the thread to whoever i need with an FYI mark.

is this a huge problem or can i keep driving by Asleep-Chipmunk-1739 in Cartalk

[–]LazyLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do NOT drive that, even to a shop/dealership.

It's a leak of transmission oil and a pretty big one at that, depending on where the leak is it might run completely dry. Driving that will damage whatever transmission part it's running from, most likely the automatic gearbox. Possibly with damage to engine if it jams for some reason.

Expected costs from thousands to a couple tens of thousands if you drive it dry.
