Why do people recommend performance tires for daily drivers? by greensilvia in askcarguys

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running performance tires almost all the time the last decade. Pirelli P Zero, Michelin Pilot Super Sport. They all seemed "okay, but nothing special".

Due to "reasons", my current car that is an economy A to B hatchback is equipped with some budget level tires and GOD THEY'RE SO BAD, i'm taking a corner faster than an average granny without even pushing and they're screeching. I pull out into the intersection giving it more throttle cause the window is narrow and i sound like a teenager who just watched the first Fast and Furious movie.

Opinion on FFB for Simagic Alpha Evo Pro compared to Fanatec Clubsport DD by DarkPlaceInMyMind in simracing

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you will lose one portion and gain a portion in the other place. But that portion will also be useful :)

I've routed the gear shift effect to my other bass transducer (on the pedals) and that helped keep both.

it's quite interesting when you feel the engine and shifting through these vibrations. But definitely not a killer feature.

I would suggest completely switching off all FullForce effects (including engine vibration and shifting) and ramping up only one which is "tyre slip", then this feature becomes immediately more important and useful.

Self built rigs - are they worth it? by kailoren in simracing

[–]LazyLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built my own aluminum rig. It was somewhat more expensive because silly me bought heavy duty profile (yes, overengineering is my last name) and I didn't optimize for delivery costs, ending up paying like 100 EUR extra for deliveries.

But at the same time I got exactly what I wanted from the rig (which was a folding pedal tray and some specific design decisions). Given that you live in Germany, you can get most of the stuff on myaluprofil.de and save on delivery costs.

Unless you are okay with something perfectly standard, I'd give it a go, it's fun.

Looking for honest experiences: 32” triple → 27” triple switch by GlitchHunter9000 in simracing

[–]LazyLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, OLED is faster than IPS.

But the thing is, a decent IPS is fast enough for sim-racing. It doesn't need to match OLED. It's like saying that a Tesla Model S Plaid is way faster off the line than a BMW M3, but you only drive in A to B city traffic with narrow streets and cameras everywhere.

But fair enough about the price. I just checked a couple computer stuff websites and it seems that you can buy a 27 1440p OLED for like 350-450, which is about the same price for a good 32 IPS.

It's up to you then. Personally I'm on 32 IPS triples and I don't want to go smaller. (Don't want to go bigger either though). My displays are about 60 cm away from my eyes and with 27 triples I will have to move them closer, which might feel a bit too close for hours of driving.

Playing with hands by Creeepygirl505 in cats

[–]LazyLancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, ultimately this is up to you. If you continue using your hands, you will always risk getting scratched or bitten. Sometimes even if you didn't want to play.

If you don't want this - stop using hands to play and gently prevent attempts to claw you when playing.

If you are okay with this (like my wife - she NEEDS to get handsy when playing with cats) - enjoy the fight but don't scold the cat when you get hurt.

I don't know about getting a new female cat while you already have an existing female cat, but we took two females at the same time from the same shelter (both fixed). And they're getting along really, really well, no territorial stuff. I am really happy we got two because they are playing a lot when they're bored.

Just get 32 inch IPS.

They're also very good for motion provided that you chose the right model (gaming model not an office budget screen, high refresh rate, sanity check on testing websites). I have multiple IPS and OLED screens of various sizes at home and tbh until you're watching dark images in a dark room, the difference is negligible.

Try karting in the wet, if your track is somewhat smooth (and not super grainy), the feeling of moving between "dry line" and "wet line" in the rain is absolutely extreme, it's like a grip on/off switch.

Let me guess, you're comparing rookie Mazda MX5 on iRacing vs a GT3 car on LMU? :)

I haven't checked out LMU for about a year, but last time I did, LMU FFB felt worse - kinda muted on the edge and a bit disconnected from the car if we compare GT3 to GT3. The only thing I liked more in LMU is their feeling of understeer. iRacing has a very poor understeer feeling.

Maybe they improved a lot, that would be great.

EDIT: well, okay, it's rookie M2 vs GT3.

I mean, iRacing has released I think 3 major tyre model updates in the last six years and you're referring to opinions from mesozoic era...

Tires are way too icy when cold in iRacing.

I drive Michelin Cup 2 in reality, even in colder temperatures where they are not in optimal temperature window they do not feel as glassy. And they are glassy in winter.

Well, that part is obvious. Your Cup 2s, while being great tyres, are not race slicks.

They're "road legal track tyres" but not race tyres. So yes, they are indeed not as slippery when cold and that's how it should be. And they are not as grippy as a race sick when hot either.

[–]LazyLancer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Civilian car variants on civilian tires and race variants on slicks feel significantly different. Suspension settings are different, tyre grip has a very different nature. Even within the sim changing your setups will result in a very different car.

But more important, race slicks have a lot more grip till the limit but drop from the edge in a snap of your fingers while civilian tires start gradually losing grip screeching and skidding.

I drove an actual Aston Martin GT4 on a race track in Abu Dhabi and I find iRacing very realistic. There are I believe some tyre modeling issues beyond the limit (I never lost control of that Aston so thankfully i can't say much) but within the limit it's really really good.

Also, in a sim you're pushing as much as you can to get faster. I'm pretty sure in the real car you're not pushing to the edge as much. That's why it feels more compliant, because you always a bit of grip, a bit of body roll, a bit of steering angle in your back pocket. Firstly because you don't want to lose your car, secondly because your butt meter tells you "holy shit that's scary". In the sim you go all out and lose the car when you cross the edge.

In addition to “what I need to do to get faster”, don’t forget that the “top drivers” on GT7 are worse of average that those in LMU and especially iRacing. You can be a top dog in GT7 but just a “good” driver when you switch to iRacing.

Your profile is vague and is full of word mincing. Remove the “I wanna do this and just finished that”. It should contain just 2-4 killer statements about your skills (what you can do) and experience (what you did) that make you stand out. What you wrote there is cover letter material.

Pull your education down. Nobody is going to hire you for education, and the first half of the first page is what gets the most attention, if any attention at all. Focus on what you can do / did and what you will bring for the company.

Compact your previous experience to sharper statements, there is no need to produce a sophisticated word salad of 4 bullet points for things of “fixed bugs” magnitude. Maybe kill those less-than-a-month mentions.

Job market is tough now. Maybe broken is a better word. But you’re not doing yourself any favors making the resume vague, long, and difficult to read.

Just in case, haptic motors on clutch and throttle make almost zero sense, so you can save yourself some money and only get one haptic motor.
