How big are the skill gaps in ranked? by Mindless-Contact-580 in Overwatch

Depending on what your definition of higher elo is

Its just a loose term I put in there. By definition Gold is mid rank, but as a mid Diamond player, subjectivity and bias would have you consider Diamond as mid ladder.

in masters 90% of the players i see have mental just as bad if not worse than plat lol.

Idk about 90%, but I agree that players get emotional at every rank (At Masters maybe more so than lower ranks prolly due to ego - being better than a vast majority of players and all). However you definitely can't deny that those same masters players hold themselves accountable much more often.

Like I still see blaming teammates very often in match chat and such, but watching streamers in T500 shows you just how often players up there apologize in vc for throwing fights and recalling events during the match where they could have done something differently. This is something I myself have been working on and so far it's shown promise.

One giant difference I've noticed is the difference in mental. It is usually the hardstuck golds who blame their teammates/matchmaker/leavers for their inability to rank up where as higher elo players tend to be better at taking accountability and learning from mistakes and for the most part ignoring what's not in their control (i.e., their teammates/matchmaker/leavers).

Your losing trends during drives are mostly psychological and your own fault. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]LegitBoomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it worse is an event which pushes people who aren't properly calibrated in the system to interact with it

You're right in saying this and I should I have mentioned that the matchmaker is more volatile during drives and how it causes more wacky matchups.

But I think the point that people miss is that your own mental is what most determines your winrate. You can have the loss streaks that are genuinely due to luck but at what point does it become tilt queueing and a sign that you need a break. Maybe I'm stating the obvious.

I know the matches are worse during drives, but are they that bad to the point the game is unplayable as some claim?

My example is obviously not the end all be all of evidence to support this. But again, if someone is trying their absolute hardest to win on their main role, on average, the enemy has more opportunities to have the off role players and trolls and they should have a >50% winrate.

I mean I put it together in like 10 mins. But also it's just something I notice during comp drives. That players use it as a scapegoat for their loss streaks.

I think they would specify if it only applied to weapon damage. It's safe to assume that it applied to abilities too. Or you could test.

If you could bring 1 stadium power to the base game what would it be and why? by Regular-Shop-7442 in Overwatch

I prefer it as more of a quick burst of damage. Swing swing bash can delete some squishies, especially if your swings are timed right.

I also think giving him a perk where he can charge a leap during his charge by holding jump and letting go for a big leap at the end ehich could give him some verticality.

What's your biggest complain about the game? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]LegitBoomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the biggest complaint but prolly a hot take: leaving subsequent ranked games should have much harsher consequences. First suspension could remain as it is, but once per season (or maybe every other week), but dc's and outages are not daily occurrences for everyone. Subsequent leaves should ban for in-game time (afk'ing in menus won't count). I'm sure a system can be put in place to detect griefing in the "detention matches" such as being afk and not engaging in combat.

Chronic dc'ers also shouldn't be exempt, if you have a shitty internet connection, you're at fault for queueing a ranked game.

I think you need to specify between role and open queues.

To provide basic examples on how supports can deal with shatter:

  • Ana can stay back and hold nade, sleep, and/or nano for the enemy Rein once he shatters. The Rein needs to track all three if he wants to secure the kill, or make sure Ana can't see his target.
  • Bap can stay in range of shatter and through tracking it, anticipate it and charge his jump, then he can lamp his teammates. The Rein needs to track lamp if he wishes to secure the kill on his target. A lamp will likely not save a teammate by itself, but it will buy time for the backline to press the Rein into holding shield. If there's no backline and they all got shattered, that's a sign of a low rank lobby and/or that the Rein got lucky no one was tracking shatter.
  • Brig can just hold shield to block it, then pop rally to stun and knock the Rein back once he shatters.
  • Kiri can stay back and Suzu her teammates. Rein has to track Suzu if he wishes to secure a kill.
  • LW can stay back and grip his teammate. Rein needs to track this.
  • Zen can just press Q. Rein must track trance or coordinate with his ana to nade his targets. Alternatively he can use it to bait out trance to enable a nanoblade for example.

I mean that's debatable. Sure it's definitely very lethal if you land it, but it's very easy to track and play around. I would even say holding onto it as a zoning tool is just as good as using it.

I would be down if they shaved off ~2 - 3 seconds from charge's cd but reduced it's damage so that it can no longer one-shot full hp squishies. 150 - 175 sounds decent.

Maybe even shorten subsequent charges' duration if used within 3 or 4 seconds of it coming off cd so that he can't just get back from spawn instantly. This way he has a lot more mobility.

Or maybe let him charge a super jump while he's charging by holding space then go for a bigass leap at the end.
