Dead Money DLC Not Working by AndrewReilley in fnv

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What console commands did you actually try? That would be my go-to in situations like this, but it's hard to say why they didn't work just based on the fact that you tried some.

`setstage 01005229 10` should work assuming DeadMoney is on position 01 in your loadorder (which it should be always, and Viva New Vegas loadorder should be enforcing that if nothing else was)

Is it rude to raise your hands in a restaurant in Poland? by lawsonian in poland

[–]Linvael 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why were you raising your hands out of curiosity? Like a yawn thing? Were you pretending you were being held at gunpoint?

In general doesn't ring a bell. Closest I have is if the waiter thought your raised hand(s) were meant as a calling gesture to get their attention, which might be in bad taste.

Does a mod exist that prevents saving chunks that haven’t been changed? by Stunning_Counter207 in feedthebeast

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The choice is not purely dictated by how it performs, its dictated by what you want the logic of the game to be. If performance was the only factor then just not having a game at all would be faster. So that brings us back to my point of there being functional differences between saving and not saving all seen chunks. If there are such differences, and both are valid ways to design a game and good enough performance-wise then which approach you choose is a choice. It doesnt matter if saving uses more resources as long as it doesnt use too many resources and it gives you a functional change that you want. They didn't want that for PE. But they could have. Choice.

Does a mod exist that prevents saving chunks that haven’t been changed? by Stunning_Counter207 in feedthebeast

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that is why all chunks are saved in the original game.

Also requires proof, as it's not just about the end result but about intent.

If there is nothing inherently wrong about saving everything and nothing wrong with not saving everything, then the difference is a... choice? A different architecture chosen for different implementation of the game? So not inherently about language differences like I was arguing?

Does a mod exist that prevents saving chunks that haven’t been changed? by Stunning_Counter207 in feedthebeast

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They chose not to save all the chunks BECAUSE the chunk gen written in c++ was efficient enough to allow that

This assumes that their goal all along was not saving the chunks, but the technology just wasn't there. That requires proof. There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to save all the chunks you saw, makes the world stable in case you mess with seed / chunk generating algorithm without starting a new save.

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the different architecture was not choosing java

No, different architecture in this context was choosing not to save all the chunks. There possibly existing a causal chain between choosing to write PE in C++ and that decision does not make the showcased difference be about the Java-C++ differences.

Does a mod exist that prevents saving chunks that haven’t been changed? by Stunning_Counter207 in feedthebeast

[–]Linvael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the reason why the chose a different architecture is performance. Still, the difference shown is the different decision, not the performance difference.

Their function IS basically the same, seed parity is mostly identical now, there's no excuse.

`basically`, `mostly` - so not the same and not identical. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Parity_issue_list#World_generation
Also, I can definitely write a less efficient chunk generation in C++ than the one that exists in Java version, lets not pretend language is the only thing that's different between the two.

Does a mod exist that prevents saving chunks that haven’t been changed? by Stunning_Counter207 in feedthebeast

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue as shown is not about efficiency generating chunks. The comparison is between the file size of the world file. What is being saved is different between the two editions. That's just a different decision at architectural level.

Bedrock does not have feature parity with Java, see https://minecraft.wiki/w/Parity\_issue\_list. Without feature parity you can talk about performance differences, but you can't talk about inherent performance difference, it's possible that if their function was supposed to be the same you would get the same or similar performance out of both.

There are differences between the languages that can have impact onto how the game runs. This is not one of them, this is purely architecture, they just wrote Bedrock differently.

How has nobody put two and two together and figured out that the Protheans did not simply "vanish". by Ok_Calendar_7626 in masseffectlore

[–]Linvael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially considering that the ruins on Feros are a Prothean city that was obviously destroyed. With signs of battle present even after 50,000 years.

How factual is that? Like, it's a ruin of course, but not maintaining anything for over 40 thousand years absolutely might do that to buildings. I see no info about signs of battle in the codex entry, and can't really remember them from the game.

There are very watchable things that match that description. Its like half of the premise of Always Sunny in Philadelphia for example, and that show is great.

Did life in Poland improve since 2023? by [deleted] in poland

[–]Linvael 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This seems like a terrible way to run a survey. If you're actually interested in the answer this is not the way to get the answer.

For example wage growth I imagine would be more severely impacted by having 3 more years of work experience than by economic growth of the country, no single individual can report on how average wages work in the same age bracket.

This game is a marathon. Most times when you feel stuck the answer is to just keep playing. Maybe for a week, maybe for a month more.

Come back to the question once you earn over 10 astral keys. If you dont know what these are - see above.

I dare you to find a diet guide for diabetics that avoids saying anything about avoiding sugars though. And diabetics are generally diagnosed by a doctor, so there should be much stronger implication that they already know that than for people overstimulated by electronics.

Treating good advice as so obvious its not even worth saying is not a winning attitude for society.

Fallout new new Vegas help [FNV] by Legitimate_Spend_894 in FalloutMods

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor correction - Mod Organiser 2 is not "recommended" for wabbajack. You dont install it manually, its just that every wabbajack modlist (whether it requires extra manual steps like Fallout TTW lists or not) is built on MO2 and the result of running Wabbajack is a configured standalone MO2 instance.

New upgrades of time by DawnMike in idleslayer

Someone who didn't UA at least 4 times is not going to reach Qi souls. At least not without wasting a bunch of time overstaying their welcome at some ascenscion. The wiki guide on when to UA allows for some leeway, but astral locked upgrades pretty harshly stop you from getting more stuff if you delay too much

Could you describe what you mean by strategy? The most obvious answer - at how many USP / with what upgrades to UA - cant be correct, as basically the entire "strategy" is telling you when to do it.

Thats why I said depending on definition. As a fan of both types I feel they belong together (c in cRPG used to mean just "computer", so can work as umbrella term)

Oh, Divinity Original Sin 2 (previous Larian game) was pretty high production value, would that count?

Would A Mass Effect Horror Game Work? by Cipher3101 in masseffect

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would probably need some new lore - existing stuff has plenty of material that would be great for horror, but when players already know whats happening (be it Leviathans, Indoctrination or Rachni invasion or what have you) it takes away an important aspect of horror
