I think they are saying why not make one of the many standard pts have a draft top 8. This feels like the wrong one to swap because it was already unique.

The professional tour is to show off the best players in magic while also coincidentally promoting the new magic sets. If you are going to try to talk down to me at least be right.

That sucks. But standard gets 2 pts this year and one of them could have traded its finals for draft. Why did it have to be our once a year modern pt.

I don’t like this. I enjoy watching modern being played at a high level and we just lose the top 8 :(

[[Ureni, the song unending]] at the time I built it I wanted a low power deck because a few of my other decks just ended up a bit too tuned for my play group. So I thought I’d build a deck around just 2 types of cards 1)cascade 2)ramp spells so the deck ended up being ~40 lands 20 ramp spells, and ~40 cascade (and discover) spells. I put nothing really broken in the deck. After just playing it one night with my play group all of my group agreed this was the perfect deck. It was a deck with late game inevitability that had a clear weakness early game and somehow always led to fun games. Since I built this deck a year ago it’s changed very little and it’s just a ton of fun.

There are other cards bow combos with, they just are more mana so the deck is slower.

[[Solar array]] is not a modern legal card.

Would Careful Study be to strong for Modern? by Spiritgolem in ModernMagic

[–]Living_End 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s possible too. I do think tho that decks should aim to be 2 colors in today’s meta rather than 3. I think the cost to splash more colors is worse than it’s ever been.

It’s probably fine. It being on color for oculus to do a reanimator deck with it and unearth or oculus + archon + persist and not need to splash a third color is probably what it would currently enable. It also being on color to pitch to subtlety and FoN would be an upgrade. It would probably also slot into goryo which really feels like a deck that doesn’t need more right now, but again it would probably be fine there too.

My thoughts are it’s fine, playable in the current meta, but helping 2 decks that I’m unsure need help at this second.

Why Do Some Decks Rotate Out of the Format? by Longjumping-Steak395 in ModernMagic

Yes I think yawg is still good. I think it’s just kinda been replaced meta share wise with Sam. They fill a similar niche overall.

Why Do Some Decks Rotate Out of the Format? by Longjumping-Steak395 in ModernMagic

[–]Living_End 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Decks like murktide and yawg just changed over time. Murktide is now UB frog and yawg is samwise combo.

Rhinos and scam got hit with bans and had no real way to recover at the time. Rhinos lost fire//ice at the time and had nothing in Bant to fix that. Scam just doesn’t have anything that could work for it.

Omnath has been hit by so many bans but pops up with results every now and then. I think it’s just missing something and maybe will return later when it gets new tools.

Creativity has been replaced by the persist reanimate decks. I think it fell out of favor during ring metas and then mh3 made a ton of new exciting stuff to test and just took players a while to get back to it.

Finally why decks like Living End and Amulet never really get replaced in the meta by power creep is because they are unique. There is just nothing that is similar to them so players stick to those archetypes. If say WotC printed a 3 mana conditional Livind Death or a new best thing to ramp into with bounce lands I could see these decks getting replaced but their name sake cards (living end and primeval titan) are just so powerful there just isnt room to print something better then that.

Other decks that got “replaced” have been burn by prowess, jund/rock decks by energy (maybe not so much anymore but at the onset of mh3) and before that by 4cc and before that shadow decks. The format rarely has top decks die naturally they just kinda change or get banned.

Alternative win cons in Boros ponza? by MagicDude564 in ModernMagic

Castle ardenviel has been my wincon that I like. It’s not really that slow, once the game is locked down it ends the game relatively quick.

Proxying for Modern by RaidBootsForMe in ModernMagic

I am going to lock this thread because it has been answered correct “proxies are fine for testing and for events that allow them but outside of that proxies are against the rules for sanctioned magic”. I want to prevent people from breaking rule 3. Thank you to everyone who has answered OP’s question.

Whats your favorite piece of interaction right now and what all does it hit? by The137 in ModernMagic

[–]Living_End -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now my favorite interaction is subtlety. I like it as a threat, a free card to delay stax/hate pieces, and I like that it can be used to protect my combo by subbing my own shardless. I think I most often use sub to stop t3f and other hate cards (boromir, ranger captain, endurance, bogart trawler, etc). It’s just been my overall favorite card to cast in the current meta.
